went to lfs and saw a maroon gold stripe clown, RM35 ok price?

my tank is getting covered more with the diatoms everyday, is it a sign of ammonia dropping?

i'm going to leave my tank for about 1 more week before getting livestock  rclxm9.gif
*
rm35 is bit higher but still ok

i only have the nitrates test kit.
*
most important test kit is nitrates & KH
now your kh should be around 12,
after u add live stock it will drop in few months time.
need to maintain it at 9, other test kit is optional

nitrates @ nitrate is the most dangerous?? hmm.gif
do i need removing media to slow down the production??
*
your light i not sure, different lighting on the market, better check with where u bought it.
nitrate keep as low as possible but is not harmful but rather stressful to some fish and coral.
certain algae & more plant base coral will need nitrate as food source also.

QUOTE(Evrae90 @ Nov 7 2009, 12:17 AM)
i dont think there's a need for any removal media.

experienced marine keepers use live rock as the main filtration and in fact they are against any filter media.
*
ya, marine and fresh water different.
refugium in sump will be good, will help to absorb nitrates

0o..okey..what the supplement for FOWLR??
*
don't need, just do water change, all 70 trace elements will be refresh,
if u don't sooner later your fish will have lubang on the head. brain damage

QUOTE(ruknu @ Nov 9 2009, 08:48 PM)
did coralline algae need nitrates @ nitrate??
*
nutrients rather than nitrate, nitrate keep to zero if possible.
nutrients come from your fish poo poo , tap water , food u feed so don't worry don't have
what u have to worry is how to get rid of those excessive one. rclxm9.gif

imo , with proper water parameter .and lots of "blue" llight ..... these grow un stopble
*
right fr, if is red coraline looking for than can boost up blue light, it will absorb blue light and release red energy
also need good concentration of diluted calcium and carbonate for good result, coz is calcite.

why my life rock full with red and green algae??i don't know how to rid them..
i use 2 power glo 20w and 1 marine glow 20w..
*
normal algae just chop off their nutrient source,
have a good skimmer will help, activated carbon also needed.
light control, gratually adjust to shorter time.

but if you see some bluerish, cry.gif
use rowa phos to get rid of phosphate, some big tank use phos reactor.
coz this type of algae absorb nitrogen from free standing and convert to nitrate as they need,
other method meaningless

QUOTE(edthrax @ Nov 12 2009, 03:13 PM)
hi, just about to start my 1st saltwater/reef tank, been having freshwater aquarium for quite sometime..

i was asking at east aqua ikano bout the reef tank setup.. is the rm12 per kg for  live rock is the normal price or  can i get cheaper some other place?  any other shop recommended near damansara/subang area?

The setup will be in a 2 feet aquarium.. so far without chiller my aquarium temperature is around 27-29 Celcius.. i have an aircon in the room if the temp gets over 30 celcius..
*
rm7-9/kgs
use dead rock, dry, it will weight a lot much lesser and you save up $ to get a botol of microbakter.
dead rock parasite free & you can drill more holes, epoxy and scape it better, well this depends on individual prefer but this what i will do for my future tank. notworthy.gif

temp need to be stable especially if is reef tank, for long term need a chiller & best a sump tank.

and I wanna get this puffer fish this saturday  drool.gif :

[attachmentid=1300879]

rclxms.gif
congratulation.. NO3 keep low as possible & tempreture don't swing.
once a week take your grandma cooking knife cop small pcs of prawn (size of the anemone mouth) throw it to the clown fish
clown fish will bring back and feed it.

this puffer depends on your luck, some will nip tube worm and polyps, some won't

thanks
*
definately LFS won't tell u this, u can use all dead rock or mix, if mix still have some risk of parasite.

So i can use any rock as a dead rock?? or buy those dead coral rocks in the LFS?
*
can get from LFS, mostly aragonite base, it will be white color & totally dry, very light weight drool.gif
other like tufa, lava base which is more harder & rich in mineral which make it strong,
so depend how much rock u gonna put, stack, big tank than should consider harder rock coz you don't want to have rock slide.
small tank just aragonite will do, got $ can get artificial rock.

don't recommend to go collect rock & use if not familiar

its for a 2 feet tank.. issit the rock that is around rm4-6  per kg? i saw at Pet's Family in Taman megah selling those kinda rocks.. looks like this live rocks..

if i want to use those rocks.. i need to clean them first rite? read about few techniques..boiling,drying, water+vinegar ...
*
haha.. cooking somemore.. you buying dead rock, there's nothing in there. just wash away any dust and dirt will do.
curing rock is mostly those life rock have hitchiker that people don't want yet cannot get rid of it. notworthy.gif

will this star fish eat coral??
*
linckia !!! i like
rclxm9.gif
blue & red color like fake plastic
ya, they are reef safe, algae eater but take meaty food also if u feed them
not easy to keep, did lots of research on this last time but end up didn't buy sweat.gif
if u buy need to let it float on your tank to acclimation to same tempreture 1hrs
after that QT dripping 1-2hrs before put into your tank
most LFS don't proper handle it so need to choose correctly, osmotic shock kills them

the water flow i set to medium. i uploaded a short video for you to judge the water flow.
sad now having second thoughts of the anemone. a guy in another forum says its color is too white n looks unhealthy n my tank is too small.

*
just moderate flow will be nice, when u bought it? when u buy what color it is?
tempreture got swing? can maintain constant at 28c? anemone is hard to keep for tank which tempreture swing often.

FOWLR tank just water change will do. have rock scape for the fish to hide and sleep. most fish die because of malnutrition.

may need to dose some cal & carbonate to maintain KH level but should be just very minimum.

when i bought it its this color all the time.

i read that feeding it shrimp once a week will make it tan color back. so im gonna feed a shrimp every week. i just bought it 2 days ago.

and my tank i think its constant temprature. its in my room. water never gets higher than 28 C.
*
white color mean it already loose it's zooxanthellae, remain just base color, hopefully still have some zooxanthellae left and with enough light it will be able to regenerate. u need to feed it more often, twice a week to supplyment it's diet, mince the meat.
