Dear Sifus,

Anybody here working in Loyang area? Loyang Cresent to be precise. Got an offer from OnG company there with salary of SGD 7.2k but I'm not sure about the accommodation around the area. Seems like they jack up the rental there compared to other part of Singapore. Another thing, is the offer on the high side or lower side as I'm also got around the same figure here in Malaysia.
*
comparing SGD7.2K and MYR 7.2K ? no way that can be comparable. You need to see what you value of then only can do comparison. money? friend and family?

you can stay other part from SG if you dont mind traveling. rental normally is SGD400 to SGD1K is depend on location, room size and what is provided.

Hi all, really thanks and appreciate for all the valuable advices from you all, will try to redo again. However i do have a good feedback, a manager from YTL Corperation stating that my CV is good in the sense that it shows how hardworking i am, and thats the reason why he wanted to offer me to work with him other than the other 7 applicants. But no matter what, i will revise again my cv. Thanks everyone~
*
LOL, the longer the resume the better to show how hardworking you are? but is good if somebody appreciate your resume. YTL Corp in SG? rclxms.gif

Well they just revise today to sgd 8.4k. Im 26 btw but married already without any kids yet. Thinking of becoming weekend husband by flying back to KL every weekend. Would that be a good idea in terms of money saving? If I bring my wife to Singapore then ill need to rent a house whereas I could do with just a room by myself
*
Wow, they revise your salary to another higher lvl, look like there value you alot, hmm...doubt that you have the time to become weekend husband, because it look like they need you alot might lead to OverTime? i don't know, maybe.. hmm.gif

Employee who needs to do OT are inefficient. Don't you agree? Anyway, they revise it just because my current employer counter me with better salary.

Added on December 20, 2012, 5:04 pm

Wow..with that kind of expenses I doubt I could save anything from my salary..doesnt seem worth it to go to Sg anymore.
*
I agreed that employee who needs to do OT are inefficient, but sometimes employer just want to see which staff willing to stay for OT, for performance review, idk why.
so now SG company counter offer you with SGD8.4K? hmm, did you let you current company know? i wonder how much they will counter offer back? MYR 25K with lower exchange rate at 2.48?
i wonder which field you are in? did i miss out that you mentioned? tongue.gif

Hey, dont overly generalize people doing OT as inefficient. I used to do OT, but that mainly in the servicing sector and the client are the ones who requested me to do OT since it was either urgent work which had to be complete ASAP or due to last minute scheduling changes, i was called up around 3pm or later to go onboard the ship to do some work.

There are some OT scenarios which are both valid and beneficial for the worker, i once had to go onboard a drillship at the edge of the south china sea, due to some odd reason, the transport that was provided for the transit voyage between singapore and the ship at sea was not the faster turbine boats but an older prop model. So the journey alone took 14 hours to and fro from singapore to the ship and back again.
*
Oops....Sorry bout that. i do agree that sometimes OT is necessary, who want to go back home late if can go back early. Sometimes only, not always.

Well, most of my friends actually warned me about the cultural shock i'm about to get when i get to singapore, an eye opener instead, but refuse to elaborate more about it, which worries me a lot. Guess I will have to see for myself.

Kiasu is 1, sellfishness is another, bad attitude, likes to complain, well, these are part of the info I've gathered. Partially, I do not really blame them being such for the sheer reason that there are being brought up in such a competitive environment which cultivated them into how they are today. I guess not all singaporeans are the same to begin with, and judging them based a on a few bad examples is simply unfair to the whole lot.
*
Actually kiasu is inside every single one of us, just singaporean show it out where we hide it very good? hmm.gif

Anyone ride foldable bike to work? can we bring a montague bike into SMRT?
*
montague bike i think can, but still depend on the measurement. i mean size of the bike after folded. once saw smrt staff stop someone from board on train because he is carrying a photo frame, quite big actually. shocking.gif

- is long-sleeve + tie formal enough for an interview or i must rent a suit?
*
which field are you in? long-sleeve + tie is enough, suit i seldom see anyone wear it, but it is no harm if you want go for it, add a suit on it. icon_rolleyes.gif

Does anyone know the IT market there?

I heard its quite good but would prefer some people with experience to share it with me
*
There are alot of IT field, which you are referring to? IT market is quite good here as everything also about network or mobile device and so on, but hiring, is depend. since everyone know the market is good, so alot of competitor and alot of underpaid.

Normally company should have their own preferable place for medical checkup and the cost is bared by company, please check with your future company HR.

Express result? you in a hurry, if express result also mean your application also will kena reject expressly.

Still hunting jobs in S'pore, is it recommended to put a temporary singapore address in the resume to boost the chance a bit?
*
how long been hunting? even if you put singapore address, you need to put singapore phone number, because logically speaking, you have singapore address but no singapore contact number, does not make sense at all
