Now Unity Kitchen got discount until 31st october. The price for granite and quartz is the same, i.e. RM 190 pfr, normal price 250.

Just got my quotation yesterday.
Dont know whether limited finish(design) or just the plain one.

I am going there to get better info.
Was told by the staff at Signature Kitchen that Granite/Quartz will absorb some moisture and transmit it to the base cabinet. This will make the base cabinet a bit smelly.. Anyone can vouch to this??

Anyone got any recommendation for nice finish?

sometimes it depends on what color you intend your counter top to be. if you are looking for a particular color or effect, not all materials will have what you want.
I'm using Corian white color solid surface for 5 years now. So far okay. It is also much cheaper at around Rm180 pfr (for plain white color) compare to Quartz about 3 times the cost.
My sink is also Corian....so its all one seamless piece of top and sink

I like to try Quartz or Marble the next time.....but the cost.....arrgrggghhh...

Quartz for only RM190 per ft?? waaa..so cheap..signature kitchen offer quartz brand Silestone from Spain, and it cost about RM400++ per ft. I used solid surface LG Himacs Alpine White RM208 per ft, That the cheapest

I choose Quartz over Granite. Overall Quartz looks better and is able to handle all types of resistance better. But it's pricey though.
If you have the cash, go for Quartz.

i say, mainly price to performance ratio !

solid surface / acrylic -> about RM140 per foot run

granite -> north of RM250 per foot run.

granite better quality . i think acrylic is ok if you take some basic care. i'm going for acrylic.

Is it true that solid counter top is easily scratched and stained? In terms of maintenance, is solid better than melamine or formica? I'm currently using melamine and has no major issue with stains/scratches but then again, mine is dark in color so it may not be so obvious. Contemplating using either quartz or solid for my new hse but quartz is a bit out of my budget.

Quartz has the feel of stone without the downside of maintenance (porous). I went with white Silestone quartz top, and it doesn't stain, scratch or turn yellow unlike my old house which had white solid surface top. The nicest thing is it feels quality - cold like touching stone, solid and non artificial feel when putting plates/cups etc on it.

I asked the different between both before.
Granite - original stone
Quarts - processed stone
Main different is Quartz after processed will become strong in resistent to scratches and more compressed (if you zoom in with microscope you see no gap). Granite is very strong by itself but still prone to scratches. Stone by itself have small gap which cant be see with our bare eyes and this hole will be fill with gems or dirt which we cannot see or clean.

also quartz has the shaping flexibility, while granite is harder for custom cut and it leaves gap for joining long countertop.
concern over rough usage on solid surface is the heat may leave a mark on it, e.g. accidentally place a hot pan/pot...
