hey man, really sorry for such a late reply. totally forgot to update this thread. unfortunately, my D1010MKII speakers are probably in a junkyard or laying in a scrap heap somewhere. i threw them away!

the electronics shop i sent them to for repair turned out to be run by a complete idiot. he did not get rid of the buzzing, and totally messed up the sound quality of the speakers in the process. so he actually made them worse!  bangwall.gif

i figured it was time to give them up anyway. they had a good run, and i tried what i could to bring them back to life.

thanks for following up tho, i appreciate this forum!  thumbsup.gif

That's unfortunate. I also worry of such thing when involved electronics. Some guys that only know basic electrical stuff mess everything up.

You bought new speaker?

Had a chance to listen to the Swan (Swans?) M300 MKII during the recent KLIAV. It was an absolute pleasure to listen to. Deep rich bass without being bloated or muddy, very clear separation especially of vocals, and smooth treble despite using the ribbon tweeter.

Sound profile is very similar to EMU Teak or JVC FW01.

Unfortunately no M200 MKIII on demo as I would have liked to compare them both.

Hi everyone

Basically a newbie to the Hivi brand but am doing some research online to replace my recently dead Edifier R1700bt

Am wondering has anyone compared the D100 to the R1700bt and would be able to give some feedback accordingly?

Would appreciate if anyone could give some comparison (as unbiased as possible)

Thanks

Same size 4" bass driver. Bass should be more or less the same.
D100 use ribbon tweeter while R1700BT use dome tweeter. Ribbon tweeter will give more sharper high frequency.

You already used to listening dome tweeter, why not take this opportunity to try ribbon tweeter and hear the difference. D100 is the cheapest active speaker that use ribbon tweeter while almost all other are using dome tweeter because it is cheaper.
Can't guarantee you will prefer it over dome tweeter as preference is subjective.

I do agree with you as the specs do appeal to me altho am curious to the following

1. The D100 is a non-ported cabinet design so I presume the bass dept would be reduced but I'd assume better control and detail, can someone confirm that (as it is the Edifiers I used to use are abit boomy as is even on stands (unballasted) so I can do with less impact but better detail)

2. The one appealing feature is that it has an optical in (previously used an ODAC to channel in audio from my PC to the R1700BT @ 24bit/96khz) but I'd like to know using the realtek onboard optical out what's the maximum bitrate playable thru Hivi's DSP as I frequently listen to SACD rips.

3. Are HiVi's sensitive to placement including distance from wall and toe?

Thanks

Behind got port. R1700BT also have port, at the front.

Not sure on the bitrate supported. I think can google the spec.

It have rear port, the bass will change depends how close to the wall. Ribbon tweeter also have narrower listening field. Need to have more direct line to ear.

Thanks for pointing out the port, missed that out as most pics online only highlight the front part (tech sites....)

The bitrate is what I've been trying to look up as most reviews so far are basing on Spotify Premium or Tidal but kinda hoping current HiVi owners could fill in the gap

Yeah, seems based on what I understand now, it's going to be placement sensitive but it isn't a deal-breaker

I think you got it wrong on the bass. I saw a review on S880 vs D100. I was going to get the used S880 but cancelled my plan after watching the Vietnamese review. You can find them on youtube and try listen to it via speaker.

Thanks but I think quite a few would disagree that a youtube audio playback review is something that one would consider as a measurable...and yes, I did saw that video

Yeah finally bit the bullet and bought it and man, it's one pair of speakers that isn't forgiving to bad recordings especially when you're playing back high bitrate FLAC files

Does Hivi Swan M300 MKiii need a subwoofer to sound good? If yes, what 8 or 10" woofer is recommended?

I'm currently using Kali LP-6 and I'm looking to upgrade

If you're referring to the MK300 MKii, then likely no need. I've heard during kliav and the bass is just perfect for music.

Did you heard m5a? How was it compared with m300 mkii? Worth the extra money if lerts say to put it at standard double storey house living room.
