I have not received the Nokia Touch Updates just yet. let's hope this updates can really improve the battery life. Based on the comments, I seem to encounter the same issue where the battery suddenly runs down really fast.

Hi, can I ask how's the macro performance of 920 camera? Fine enough for a phone camera?
*
So let's see. This is my setting

Distance to objects - aprroximately 4 inches

1. Scenes - Close-up
2. ISO - 400
3. EV - 0
4. White Balance - Fluorescene

Let's see if my office allows the photos to be uploaded or not.

Nope .... not allowed by the office ... I'll see what I can do from home tonight.

Here's a sample photo taken in my living room. It's a dark living room only lighted by table lamps.

Hmmmm can't seem to attached the photo. Maybe because it's 2.4MB for the photo from the iPhone 4s?

Let's see if I upload to flickr if that will work.

The one below is taken with the iPhone 4s

This is taken by the Lumia 920

Engadget is of the opinion that there is a problem with the software for daylight photography because the pre-production Lumia 920 that they tested did not have the issues.

Ermm guess it's true. But I don't really use a phone for photography.
I have my Canon 5D Mark II for that. Bring on Aspire  tongue.gif

i said the same too and I have the D300 but I now use the Nikon exclusively for vacation and all my other photo session, I use the phone camera.

best bet i think is to underexpose the pics.... i think.......

Or to turn off the focus assist I think. The focus assist is the one that seems to stabilised the lens allowing for more light to come in. I'm just guessing but I'll take a photo with and without photo assist and compare them.

I tested the camera with the focus assist off, the photos still comes in quite clear with lots of light but some areas are a bit darker so I guess the focus assist does seems to add more light to the photos.

Found this review on the camera by WPCentral and it made me understand more on the camera setup. Now need to download the Nokia Creative Studio App smile.gif

That's not how OIS work. The focus assisting LED is just to provide some light for focus, will not effect the photo brightness.

To prove this, you can first half press the shuttle button at outside your home, then come back indoor (still half pressing), off all the light then take a photo.
*
If that is the case, then I guess to take somewhat darker photos at night, the only way is to reduce the EV by a couple of stops.

I think what ch89 meant to ask is that does Nokia Malaysia gives freebies like the ones they gave to customers in US/UK ... from what I heard, no.

ya. you are right. i should have rephrased it better. oh well, i guess dont have then.

I think Nokia is trying really really hard to penetrate the US market and therfeore, offered those freebies. The wireless chargers are not cheap, we are talking about RM200 for the charger itself.

It is worth it though. I bought one and you can't underestimate the ease for me to charge the phone. No more opening a drawer looking for the iPhone charger which obviously will be tangled with all other cables in the drawer, bending down under the side of the bed to plug in the charger and then charge the phone. After the phone is charge, bending down again to unplug the charger and then putting it in the drawer.

Now I go into the bedroom, put the phone on the wireless charger to get some quick juice and then when I want to leave the room, pick up the phone and I'm done.

It does not cost you much to leave your charger on 24/7

Fatboy charger specs show an output voltage of 12V and 750mA which equals to power output of 9W (P = VI) while charging and standby consumption at <30mW. TNB current rates are 21.8 sen/kWh.

Therefore it only costs 0.2 sen/hour whenever it is charging and 0.0007 sen/hour on standby consumption.

Thanks for the info. Fortunately where I live the electricity is free though I make it a point not to leave any lights on when it is not needed and my wife is a stickler for leaving chargers left in the socket when it is not charging.

Very nice wife. Not only save the bills but save the electricity consumption, makes world greener.

No bills to save so we mainly do it for the environment. So at 0.0007 cents per hour, that's 0.0168 cents a day (round it up to 2 cents a day) which makes it 6 ringgit a year .... if I were to use it in Malaysia. That's not too bad I guess.

I'm twisting your statement? So care to explain what your comment meant when you said "dont sound so smart then".
It doesn't need any twisting for anyone to understand that sentence. You're saying I'm trying to flame you.
C'mon man, you're just saying stuff without any prove to support your accusations.

Did I ever mention any rude comments towards you? I wasn't the one who called people 'Sick', 'Don't sound so smart', 'Go see a doctor'. Obviously I was offended when I shared my thoughts and opinions in a friendly manner and I get flamed by you for no reason when you said 'Dont sound so smart then'.

It's a forum man, we all have our freedom of speech, you don't just go around flaming people for sharing their thoughts just because they have contradicting opinions. On the other hand, I appreciate you as a TS for sharing all these valuable information regarding Lumia 920 & I just wanna say that no flaming was intended towards you. If you felt likewise, I'm gonna put my ego aside and say I'm sorry. Btw, let's just get back to the topic & not waste our times here argue-ing about silly matters  rclxms.gif

Hahahahaha ... I couldn't care less actually, but the ignore list is useful. I got on his bad side when I said the price mentioned was cheap and he went ballistic as if saying that insulted something within him ... first time I've encountered such a person. I spend most of my time before this in the iPhone section and I have never .... ahhh who cares ... life is short and getting annoyed by a Note 2 troll is not worth one lick.

So Emery, are you planning to get one? Which color?

Whatsapp for Windows 8 (ver 2.8.10) has been released. Just go to whatsapp.com and the link will open the Store and you can install/update. Just seems like a temporary fix and not the full fledge rebuild of the app for Windows Phone 8 .... ohh well.

Lol. Maybe I should utilize it too, haven't tried it before tough. Ahaha.
Yeap, pre-ordered mine about a week back. Was actually looking forward to the matt grey / cyan
but apparently msia wouldn't be bringing them in. Bummer. So had to go with the white.
Wanted a change as I've been using android all the way & I'm not a big fan of apple. (No disrespect intended, apple's a cool brand). To be honest, I'm an apple virgin. Hahaha. So how's lumia 920 going for you so far?
You do own one right? I'm guessing yellow?  cool2.gif

Yes, yellow color with a white wireless plate charger (long story). The phone has been quite good other than the battery life being on the sucky side. One day it will last the whole day and another it can't even last till 2PM. This morning I dropped it from 5 feet or so ... stupid stupid me and the polycarbonate sheel seems to take the impact well but there is a little dent (not very visible unless you really check it). My iPhone would have shattered the glass back at least if it fell from that height. The phone got really warm today and I suspect because I downloaded an app called Facebook Touch and I'm guessing the app is not optimize for WP8 yet, the battery went down from full charge to 87% in 30 minutes. Everytime the phone gets warm, you'll know that one app is really going haywire.

As for Apps, I am quite happy with the phone. I have most of my iOS apps in there or something that does the same thing as my iOS apps. The screen is just beautiful, the text are not washed out and if you're long in the tooth like me, then the ability to set the contrast (the text becomes super clear) is a godsend. The camera is outstanding and I've been using the Nokia Creative Studio to fix the daylight softness issue (1/3 or 1/4 adjustment on the slider should do the trick). I'm pretty sure that Nokia will come up with a fix soon (and that's probably why Portico is still not released yet for Nokia phones compared to HTC).

I didn't notice the weight probably because the iPhone 4s is only 40 grams lighter and I do put the mophie juice pack on it from time to time which makes the 4s a damn brick. Some of my friends has mentioned that the phone is slippery but I didn't feel it's that slippery, in fact I'm quite used to it. Maybe I have spiderman fingers.

I use Whatsapp and Skype a lot and Skype is rock solid, the implementation is better than the iOS. Whatsapp on the other hand is okay. The UI is not so good as the iOS and Android version, if you attached a photo, it just puts the thumbnail in the same rectangular box as the text which makes it look really weird and you really can't make out what the photo looks like because it makes it look really small. But it's okay lah .... it does its purpose but I really hope the revamp the entire UI for WP8. The annoying sound that comes even if you are using the phone to listen to music is still there so they need to get rid of that because that's a WP7 legacy.

I wish the sound management is better. I used my iPhone a lot in the car and the device can tell if I am using my Beats (thus it will slide the volume automatically to my headphone settings) and it will slide it to the max when I'm using it in the car auxilarry connection etc. WP8 can't even control the ringing volume vs the music volume which is absurd to say the least.

Anyway, overall I like the phone. The icon based UI is getting old. Let me know if you want to know anything else.

I will try but the other day I tried uploading some photos and the forum could not accept it. Maybe because the file is 3MB? I've put a couple in my Flickr account so you can check that out.

The office blocks any upload to the net so have to do it at home and when I get home I'm usually busy with the kids' activities etc. We'll see.

As for what I am doing in Saudi, well check out the O&G Thread in the Jobs section and you'll know lah heh heh heh.
