available for window phone meh?

There is already a remote VLC app in windows phone store (not free); eventually the player itself will make its way to windows phone store, and it's a well known fact Windows 8, RT and phone 8 share similar kernels, porting will not be too difficult.

Just restart the phone and see? Or maybe you need the app to run in the background in order for the updates to run. Try opening the app then "closing" it by hitting the home button instead of the back button. Im not so sure myself.

1) Do they have "Search" function for SMS or memo/reminders or calendars?

Do Windows have function to search through all the SMSes?
...or do i have to scroll and screen every possible messages in the phone?
2) Flash player.
If i want to surf web that require flash player.... which alternative browser do you guys use?
(on Android i am using Mozilla... but windows have no mozilla)..

Okay when you say FB live tile update, what does that mean and what does it do in the Live Tile? I receives toast notification of any new notifications and the live tile will only show how many new notifications I have.
*
thats what im referring to - it flips over the back side and reads out only 1 single notification (the latest one)
but there are more notifications shown as a number on the front side

Was at a chatime outlet here last night, wanted to take a photo of the place but cam was on wrong settings (close up), and guess what, can get bokeh. blink.gif
Since i do close up photography of my anime figures i might attempt to try and get this effect without using DSLRs.

I seldom see a reviewer that hates the Lumia 920, here is one of them:

"The phone is slow at taking pictures that end up systematically a bit blur and is simply unusable under low light."
@@ Then what phone is usable under low light?

Lumia 920's day photos might not be the best now until the update, but their night and low light photos are one of the best, if not the best.

Guys, mind to share what is your previous phone before getting Lumia 920?

My current phone is HTC Radar and I'm planning to get a white or yellow Lumia 920

Nokia N8 & Galaxy S2. I gave my sister the S2 after using it for 1 month, disliked Samsung's build quality (and continued using the N8). S2 lags like crap now... Was awesome initially, then started to lag... the ICS update made things worse and my sister reverted back to 2.3.5 GB.

iPhone 4S changed to Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Nexus as back up, then sold Galaxy Nexus, kept SGS3 for 6 month, then sold it, got DROID DNA. In between that, changed my daily driver from 4S to SGS3, when SGS3 sold, purchased and been using iPhone 5 as daily driver since. DROID DNA as backup phone while traveling (World phone with LTE), then got my first WP8 with Lumia 920. All three phones in possession.

2013? HTC M7? Sony Yuga/Experia Z? Oppo Find 5? Hands-on before decide. biggrin.gif

Low and midlevel Android devices does that. Bloated UI does that. Which is why stock Google Android devices like Nexus 4 are most sought after because they run stock UI, and no bloatware.

High end Android devices, with 2GB RAM and latest quad core processors do not exhibit any lag.
*
I played with all the phones on display in Samsung's outlet in Gurney PLaza, only S3 and Note 2 no lag, others all lag, wtf... Including Galaxy S2, S advance, S3 mini, Galaxy Beam, etc... I juz swype and scroll as fast as i can, simple test, and the animation cant keep up or stuttered. Android too resource hungry, im sure S3 and nOte 2 when they get more OS updates and versions in the future they will start to lag also. Then. maybe we will be seeing high end androids need 8 cores in the future. doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif In terms of pure number it sounds like phones need more spec than laptops...

From my reading, phone manufactures have to put quad core processor, higher RAM and everything in their Android devices to make sure the devices run smoothly. On the other side, Windows Phone doesn't need all those because the OS can run smoothly without any lag by using only single (WP 7.5) and double (WP 8) core processor. Don't knowlah. This is from what I've read lah..
*
HTC One S is actually faster than One X, at least in benchmarks. One S is using snapdragon duo core, One X is quad core Tegra 3. As far as i can see, NVidia's Tegra processors are less efficient and worse, high power consumption.

No android phones in RM 500 range can match Windows Phone in fluidity...

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Dec 31 2012, 02:26 PM)
If you do not change the configuration of your phone, by constantly installing new apps and putting more live widgets on homescreens, it does not lag. I've used my SGS3 for 6 months, and I left it alone running apps installed remaining the same 5 months before that, it works beautifully without any hiccups. It's the chronic "wanna try this, wanna install that app" users who don't really need them but install the app "for fun" that complained about the phone slowing down. And my SGS3 had just 1GB RAM, carefully managed which apps runs in the background and which app runs only when I tap on them. Android devices are tinkering devices, you cant just trigger-happy-install everything and expect it to run like butter. Some tinkering is required, in which, if you're not inclined to tinker, then a WP8 or iOS device is more suitable for your needs. And also, once you got everything down running nicely, got itchy go change things by adding more things to run in the background. You've just achieved equilibrium and now you're tipping it back towards chaos.
*
That's what my sister (and many of her friends) experienced with the S2, sometimes games just hang for no reason. Some who upgrade to ICS had worse problems, like the phone freezing for hours. SGS3 and Note 2 might be able to do well including updates for the next, maybe 1.5-2 years before 'too new' android versions may eventually wear down the performance.

Im the type who terminates everything in the background when im not using it (i dont need a twitter or FB app to tell me what's going on every 5 minutes) so as a smartphone user im less likely to experience hangs or very bad lags, but some other people do experience them because they treat smartphones like computers. No matter how well Android can multitask it is not a good idea to just leave everything running and install too much bloatware.

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Dec 31 2012, 02:40 PM)
The real test of how a smartphone perform in real life IS TO LEAVE things running in the background. I leave FB/Twitter/Google+ as well as apps I use all the time, running in the background and I still get uncompromised performance and a whole day's battery life out of my DNA.

I agree on the terminating apps that are not necessary, but "what is necessary" and what is not, is subjective from one user to another. I definitely DO NOT leave apps requiring position update (GPS, Google Maps, etc) and games running in the background, that will kill your battery in an instant.

Speaking of which, WP8's way of "running in the background" is pretty weak. I can't leave more than 6 apps running in the background before the other apps stops updating in real time, which in turn, causes the live tiles to stop updating too. The battery polling live tile only updates every 30 minutes too, WTF!
*
I believe the restriction is to ensure a smooth user experience. WP7.x cant multitask, current WP8 only 6 tasks, newer ones in future may get more. I think Msoft is trying to protect the reputation o WP being fast and fluid hence restricting some stuff.

Which means I can only have 6 properly updating live tiles? I felt cheated.
*
Not sure about that; im not on postpaid plan (hence my apps doesnt update) so im not sure. One thing i have noticed, i dun have background apps running (checked by holding down the back button) but the battery tile does update after some period of time. Maybe it's 30mins like you said.

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Dec 31 2012, 03:03 PM)
The tiles flipping around or animating DOES NOT MEANS it is updating. And when I say 6 apps, those are 6 apps in the multitasking tray when you press the back button. Some apps with live tiles, does not update their live tiles unless you  include them in 6 apps with live tiles that updates in background. Example of this app is Weather Flow. Some updates their live tiles no matter how many apps are running in the background. So if I choose to continue using Weather Flow, I have to limit apps with live tiles running on the background to 5 (since Weather Flow will be the 6th app running)? How ridiculous is that?

Apps that come from stock OS like People tile or Xbox Games will always update. But I even had problems getting Store updates appearing on its live tile, because of that previous restriction I mentioned.
*
I read GSMarena, Engadget and Phonearena for my case. Well, unlike u i dun need to check the updates every 5 mins. I think whether the tile updates or not is also partially dependent on the app itself. Things like email, i dun think it needs to be running in the background in order to update you with new mails.

If that is the case, then it should not be called Live Tile at all if it is not updating its app content "live". Live tile in this case is just a nice animated square icon. Reason why Live Tile is compelling is because you dont have to open the app to see the content, the content is being displayed(in concise form) on the tile itself. If it does not update, what's the point of having that tile in the home screen other than a shortcut to launch the app?

Email apps are different. Email apps polls their server every predetermined period (15/30/60 mins) or if the server-client protocol allows it, send toast notification whenever there is a new email in the mailbox. I see toast notification on new FaceBook and Twitter status/tweets, but I only see "number of new emails" on the "Live Tile" of that email app, that does not update properly unless I go into the app by launching them, and syncing. This part of WP8 simply baffles me.
*
Well, like i said, depends on the app (the ones who developed it), some do not need to be in the background to update. Im not surprised that it doesnt read the emails/notifications, let's say u hav 5 mails but there wont be enough space to display all the contents, even on the largest tile. It usually displays title of the 1-2 latest mail only.

*EDIT: Ah, Dinosorbiru just explained it for you.

Man, I have a full bar at 6am and was on a flight trip to KL. Check in here and there, some whatsapp, some surfing and some fb-Ing and I have only 20% left by 2pm. Luckily I brought my charger with me and charging in the airport. I think I need to buy an external charger. Anyone has the Nokia brand one? If so how was it?

Wow..
Why not get a powerbank? Get one with at least 10,000mAh.
