I read GSMarena, Engadget and Phonearena for my case. Well, unlike u i dun need to check the updates every 5 mins. I think whether the tile updates or not is also partially dependent on the app itself. Things like email, i dun think it needs to be running in the background in order to update you with new mails.
*
If that is the case, then it should not be called Live Tile at all if it is not updating its app content "live". Live tile in this case is just a nice animated square icon. Reason why Live Tile is compelling is because you dont have to open the app to see the content, the content is being displayed(in concise form) on the tile itself. If it does not update, what's the point of having that tile in the home screen other than a shortcut to launch the app?

Email apps are different. Email apps polls their server every predetermined period (15/30/60 mins) or if the server-client protocol allows it, send toast notification whenever there is a new email in the mailbox. I see toast notification on new FaceBook and Twitter status/tweets, but I only see "number of new emails" on the "Live Tile" of that email app, that does not update properly unless I go into the app by launching them, and syncing. This part of WP8 simply baffles me.

The tiles flipping around or animating DOES NOT MEANS it is updating. And when I say 6 apps, those are 6 apps in the multitasking tray when you press the back button. Some apps with live tiles, does not update their live tiles unless you  include them in 6 apps with live tiles that updates in background. Example of this app is Weather Flow. Some updates their live tiles no matter how many apps are running in the background. So if I choose to continue using Weather Flow, I have to limit apps with live tiles running on the background to 5 (since Weather Flow will be the 6th app running)? How ridiculous is that?

Apps that come from stock OS like People tile or Xbox Games will always update. But I even had problems getting Store updates appearing on its live tile, because of that previous restriction I mentioned.
*
No, sir. What u are referring is Background apps that currently running in the background which you can see (just 6) by pushing the back button. That is different than apps with live tile funtion. Apps that have live tiles function are not limited to just work for 6 apps only when pinned to the start screen. I pinned lot of apps on my start screen - FB, Twitter, Rowi, Whatsapp, HTC Hub, Birthday Tile, WP Central and many more and all them are live updating

Well, like i said, depends on the app (the ones who developed it), some do not need to be in the background to update. Im not surprised that it doesnt read the emails/notifications, let's say u hav 5 mails but there wont be enough space to display all the contents, even on the largest tile. It usually displays title of the 1-2 latest mail only.

*EDIT: Ah, Dinosorbiru just explained it for you.

Yes, but Weather Flow has this restriction when you install the app. Its Live Tile may not work properly if there are more than 6 apps running in the background. Install Weather Flow as trial and see if you dont believe me.

I know about the multitasking processes running when you press and hold the back button. I'm talking about limitations set by certain apps just so that their Live Tiles is live-updating.

So then, it might happen for certain app lah, not all. In general, there's no restriction to just only 6 apps with live tile function that can live updating when pinned to the start screen

Exactly. Why this app behaves that way, and why there aren't standardisation for this, make me go rclxub.gif

Maybe by the restriction, the app can update rapidly without any interference from other apps? Don't knowlah, just my guess. Haha!

I bought it last Saturday, unlocked developer functionality on Sunday. As far as I know, non-preorder fellow will only get black and white since they kinda overstocked on these colours. smile.gif

Man, I have a full bar at 6am and was on a flight trip to KL. Check in here and there, some whatsapp, some surfing and some fb-Ing and I have only 20% left by 2pm. Luckily I brought my charger with me and charging in the airport. I think I need to buy an external charger. Anyone has the Nokia brand one? If so how was it?

@String the battery polling every 30 minutes is an OS restriction. Maybe to save battery perhaps?
