Im the type who terminates everything in the background when im not using it (i dont need a twitter or FB app to tell me what's going on every 5 minutes) so as a smartphone user im less likely to experience hangs or very bad lags, but some other people do experience them because they treat smartphones like computers. No matter how well Android can multitask it is not a good idea to just leave everything running and install too much bloatware.

Woho Maxis getting LTE ey. Please let it be true. I'm just hoping it doesn't get that expensive.
Still stuck with my iValue1 which cost me RM100 each month. Glad there is no more extra charge when I surf more then the quota + 1gb extra quota

The real test of how a smartphone perform in real life IS TO LEAVE things running in the background. I leave FB/Twitter/Google+ as well as apps I use all the time, running in the background and I still get uncompromised performance and a whole day's battery life out of my DNA.
I agree on the terminating apps that are not necessary, but "what is necessary" and what is not, is subjective from one user to another. I definitely DO NOT leave apps requiring position update (GPS, Google Maps, etc) and games running in the background, that will kill your battery in an instant.
Speaking of which, WP8's way of "running in the background" is pretty weak. I can't leave more than 6 apps running in the background before the other apps stops updating in real time, which in turn, causes the live tiles to stop updating too. The battery polling live tile only updates every 30 minutes too, WTF!

WP7.x cant multitask, current WP8 only 6 tasks, newer ones in future may get more. I think Msoft is trying to protect the reputation o WP being fast and fluid hence restricting some stuff. Not sure about that; im not on postpaid plan (hence my apps doesnt update) so im not sure. One thing i have noticed, i dun have background apps running (checked by holding down the back button) but the battery tile does update after some period of time. Maybe it's 30mins like you said.

I need my Twitter feed updated all the time, because I follow news from tech-related sites which updates them as they are breaking (hence, "breaking news). If I rely on WP8's method of notification, by the time I get updates on Twitter, they're considered old news already. That battery tile is also disappointing. It polls only every 30 minutes, or if you manually tap the tile to open it.

All tiles pinned on my start screen (people, groups, apps, etc. ) are live updating The tiles flipping around or animating DOES NOT MEANS it is updating. And when I say 6 apps, those are 6 apps in the multitasking tray when you press the back button. Some apps with live tiles, does not update their live tiles unless you include them in 6 apps with live tiles that updates in background. Example of this app is Weather Flow. Some updates their live tiles no matter how many apps are running in the background. So if I choose to continue using Weather Flow, I have to limit apps with live tiles running on the background to 5 (since Weather Flow will be the 6th app running)? How ridiculous is that? Apps that come from stock OS like People tile or Xbox Games will always update. But I even had problems getting Store updates appearing on its live tile, because of that previous restriction I mentioned.

Well, unlike u i dun need to check the updates every 5 mins. I think whether the tile updates or not is also partially dependent on the app itself. Things like email, i dun think it needs to be running in the background in order to update you with new mails.
