Hi, to follow up on my case, Samsung called back and said that because my warranty has void, they need to charge me RM750 to change the motherboard. Should I proceed or just take the phone back? According to them, my phone cannot even be turned on thus they can't help me. Is it true? Or they are just trying to scare me?

since they can't turn on.. why they can check the warranty is voided? n what's the reason that warranty voided?

nope doesnt do anything. i changed the LCD panel last weekend. the colour seems to be more contrast than before. but the same thing happened on sunday again. that photo was taken after the LCD panel replacement

btw, the guy at samsung (near federal highway) is super nice. like his service and the way he treats me (or all the other customers too). i dont even need to Q up to collect my device, he asked me to go straight to his counter for collection  rclxms.gif

Maybe it's the panel itself then hmm.gif

I rooted it. Then the next day I tried to flash the stock kernel via the KitchenApp CheckRom. Then I could not get the phone to turn on. It's on but the screen turned black. Took off battery etc but cannot work.

if it's the problem of flashing.. and since still can go into download mode.. y don't u just flash the rom again and see? shouldn't send it to the sc at the first place if it's your own flashing problem.. flashing rom really voided the warranty..

I am quite new to Android so I wasn't sure. I flashed the Rom using the Kitchen App. Is there a chance to restore using Odin?

Not true ...... So far touch wood , I havent claim for my SGS3 yet but a lot of times for SGS2 especially my 1st unit . I went in to claim for warranty at least 3 times , once for the screen , then for the speaker and home buttom . I went with CM7 installed . A simple bootup would have seen it . There are other devices as well which I claim while using custom rom on it .

i think this is depend on the sc, right? i think officially root n flashing custom rom will voided the warranty, so they have the rights to not cover the warranty.

for his case, i think is flashing cause the system problem.. not hardware, so they check and decide not to cover it with the warranty. just my 2 cent

Restore to Stock ROM using Odin, then use a USB jig to reset the counter.
It should be safe to send to the Samsung Service Center now.

try the one near federal highway. they provide better service i assume. i went there on saturday morning at 9am, i was the 2nd customer. the guy asked whether i needed the phone on the same day, i said yes. he then tried to squeeze time to repair my phone and i got it back on the same day at 1pm (they work half day on saturdays).

also i had no prove on my problem as it happens occasionally, but still he fixed it for me on the spot. very impressed with their service and attitude.

head to that SC and try ur luck, i think it should be fine.

P/S: i unrooted my phone and used triangle away to reset the binary counter. however i have a tonne loads of Root apps on my phone they didn't seem to bother though.
