QUOTE(aeiou228 @ Jun 27 2010, 08:42 AM) It has nothing to do with LCCT, It's all AA punya barang, should be shame on AA. Give cheapskate 7kg hand luggage some more what to behave cheapskate at the departure hall entrance. I have seen many unaware passengers got turned away and paid RM30 to check in the luggages. I'd prefer travel domestic flight without luggage check in ( no need to wait for luggage upon arrival) but I find it hard to comply with 7kg ruling even just for 3 days 2 nights trip. Fireflyz offer better value for money for its free 5kg hand carry + 20kg check-in. i always travel with jetstar for MY<-->SG trip....can bring 10kg.. |

QUOTE(Mokuton @ Jul 3 2010, 12:02 AM) If based on AA written policy on hand carry, It is strictly 1 hand carry bag and maximum 7kg. But I asked the 2 AA guys manning the departure hall entrance, they said an extra backpack carrying only laptop is allow. But then again, the AA hand carry ruling is very much discretionary at the point of entrance depending on the mood of the staff. |

But, if they use that kind of kedai scale for large bag, the measurement won't be accurate, because small surface area makes the pressure of the bag to the scale higher, then your bag will seems heavier than it should. *sigh*

As long as both ends of the bag never touch the floor ( you get lighter reading if it does ), I guess the weight will be the same. Nevertheless, the AA staff just use their hands to lift the bag and agak-agak only. Never actually weight the bag on the scale. If they do weight, I think AA will give passenger extra 0.4kg discretionary allowance. If 7.50kg, they will consider as 8 kg. |

QUOTE(Ami Tsun @ May 9 2010, 09:56 PM) IMHO, it is ok if you are bringing for personal use during your period of travelling. Maybe should try to transfer into smaller bottle/container and keep in the check-in baggage. It depends on luck. Many years ago, we were travelling to NZ. The tour company specifically told us not to bring food, milk products etc. Well, I packed Milo 3 in 1, Coffee 3 in 1, declare them at the custom and I got thru without scanning my baggage. Other tour member did not bring anything, went thru the "nothing to declare" lane and their baggage all kena scanned and checked. If the custom see that u r a suspicious person, they would wanna check on you. Esp. when u look worried, tense, afraid, don't want to make eye contact, in a rush, they would question you. Keep cool & steady is important to avoid checking by them. However sometimes, they would check on a particular race. In certain European countries, I see that Chinese/Malay/Blacks are more likely to be checked @ customs point. As long as you know you ain't breaking the law, there is no reason to be afraid of them. |

went i went to US last yer.. i couldnt sleep on the long haul flights.. of 23 hours of flight time, i only managed 4 hours of sleep so imagine walking up to the homeland security checkpoint looking dead tired, very worried and tensed all at the same time! (plus i am a malay) luckily the homeland officer selected another malay guy infront of me for a more thorough security check by whisking him away to a private room! phewww... if it were me put in a room, i wouldve looked like an agitated terrorist and put in a holding cell until my boss came all the way from PA to newark airpot to bail me out..

I'm now in Rome and r flying back to Malaysia on Monday. I will be bringing few Items I bought for my sister: 1 big handbag, 1 wallet , 1 belt, 1 scarf, all with nice boxes packaging. My sister ' order' is to keep all boxes n paper cover for the items...make sure super clean n new.
My question is: will I get tax by Malaysia kastam when return? If I hand carry the whole shopping bag with all item unopened. Is impossible to fit the items into my luggage as they r completly full with my 2 weeks Europe trip clothes. What are the actual rules by airport kastam? N whats the techniques to avoid being tax by airport kastam? Please kindly advice .... thanks |

So far the girls specifically instruct me NOT to bring boxes or paper or any packing, and have done it 3 times already without getting tax.
All my used undies and bajus are on top of these bags in the luggage. Anyway if big bag too big for luggage then, I hand carry with my stuff in them across the custom which I did with a apanama ladies 'throw-everything-in' bag. Do let me know if escape paying tax or not? This post has been edited by DarkNite: Aug 1 2010, 08:31 AM |

If u want new items in original packing, Kastam will impose taxes.
That is why many who shop overseas will throw away the packing and bring item as it is. Another alternative is to buy another empty luggage (28" or larger) and stuff everything inside. That way (depending on luck), Kastam may ask some Qs but will let u off. Come to worse, u can always give some 'angpow' to them. However, mind u, it may not even work especially on higher ranking officers. Either they ask for more or they reject completely. This post has been edited by acbc: Aug 1 2010, 08:33 AM |

Throw the package and all yes, thats the best way to make sure you arent bothered with custom.
If you sister is not happy tell her she is paying the taxes if you get caught at border.... |

i carried on board some panadols and cough drops with no problem..
for liquid form medicine, you'll still need to follow the general 100ml rule.. as for check in luggage.. as long as the medicine is legit and is not a banned substance, there shouldnt be a problem.. when i went to the states, my doc gave me lots of flu, fever and panadol pills.. i brought along additional medicines too and manage to fill a small pouch with lots of tablets and liquid medicine.. no problem encountered when entering the states.. |

Yep can confirm for most normal medicine it's fine as long as you do not go over the 100ml rule (at least for the countries I am aware of)
If you have some more "non normal" medicine that you know could get you some "interest" from customs, you better get some paper/prescription from a doctor explained you are required to take such. This post has been edited by Gormaz: Aug 7 2010, 12:38 AM |

If that's the case, I believe I will need to get the prescription letter from the doctor for safety reason as those medicine is under controlled item.
Thanks for the info, guys .. Btw, you will prefer to put inside the luggage bag or hand carry ? |

I would say better put in your hand carry so you can explain directly if there is an issue. Thanks for the info, guys .. Btw, you will prefer to put inside the luggage bag or hand carry ? In luggage they might rip it open to check. Putting in luggage got a bit more chance they won't check but if they do, the bag has quite some chance to be at least damaged... I guess its best for me to separate them into 2 supply kit both for hand carry and luggage bag. Safer in case of any misfortunate incident happen. In luggage they might rip it open to check. Putting in luggage got a bit more chance they won't check but if they do, the bad has quite some chance to be at least damaged... |

I have a question here. I'm about to go Vancouver next week. May I know whether I can take a backpack and a messenger bag to the plane? Thank you.
