yes. They are hyperactive. as long as you can spend like 1-2 hours daily to play with them then it's ok. if not, they'll either bug you to play with them by picking up toys and put on your lap no matter how many times you throw it away OR they'll destroy things in your house to get your attention.
best is to play with them b4 you leave them or b4 sleep. Mental stimulation is the keyword here Space wise...as long as you have a porch and grassy area, it'll suffice. where does your sis stay? This post has been edited by nairud: Oct 20 2005, 05:28 PM |

They need firm training. Besides, they're one of heck of an intelligent dog. |

QUOTE(aiyume @ Oct 20 2005, 07:15 PM) err....she stays with me? heheh......we stay together....with our family lah.....she 20 years old only..... err...forgot to tell you that JRT likes to dig. They are bred to go underground to flush out foxes. if you mom is ok with having the JRT dig around your lawnmy house has porch, has grassy area but not very big.....and we have MOM....she and her flowers..... what's the reason of banning those? furthermore, do you guys reared any dogs b4? for those who's taking JRT as their first dog, it's not recommended for them to take this kinda breed. most ppl in the states usually will give them up for adoption because they never expect JRT to be out of their imagination. I, myself, have been rearing dogs since 3 years old and only dared to own a JRT 1 year plus ago. I still have another 5 more mixed breed dogs in my hometown. Take this interactive profiler and see whether your sister or even your family is up to the requirements to own a jrt. Here I'm not trying to put you guys off but it's better off to check whether you're up to the tenacity of a JRT or not. |

hmm i have a jack russel! His name is Spikey and its a wire haired one, so the coat is extremely messy. He's around 6 years after i gave him away, really good dog. The lifespan is like around 10 years. This is a very very intelligent and active dog. Don't rear unless you have plenty of space to let it run.
It is intelligent enough to open his cage. My cage is those with a LATCH thingy where my dog just puts it hand and puched upwards. The latch opens and he's free. The other thing which facinates me when he is eating garden snails. I dont know why he did that. He took the garden snail and put it into its mouth, he seems to be unable to bite the shell open. Well from my view, he uses his body, and slams it ontop of the snail. THe shell broke and he ate the snail... woah, so smart. Wished i videoed the whole ordeal. |

Nairud, you should rename this thread to a Terrier appreciation thread or something.
Owning a terrier means you gotta have at least as much energy as your furkid. I swear, sometimes my terrier even wears me out, especially after I get home from work and I see her jumping from couch to couch out of her excitement to see me back. Never fails to perk me up after a bad day though. Anyways, I'll be planning on getting a Westie as soon I get a place of my own. No other breeds but terriers for me!! Pictures, pictures! ![]() Awwwwwwwww.... ![]() |

Don't blame the dog, BLAME the owner!chased by one b4 when i'm small...shud be ban earlier..haha owners are the ones that should be blame for their untrained dogs. it's not a crazy dog. It's the upbringing of the dog that matters. try and compare a trained bull terrier and an untrained bull terrier. Guide to the Jack Russell Terrier
Happy yet prone to Mischief Although Jack Russell Terriers are a "happy" breed, they are NOT as they are portrayed in the movies, on TV, or other forms of media. Those dogs are professionally trained and handled, and are very obedient only for VERY short periods of time. Celebrity dogs have their needs met by the trainer, and perform their jobs accordingly. Dirt, Dirt and more Dirt Jack Russell Terriers are bred to go underground, following scent to locate and bark at quarry until they are dug down to or the quarry bolts. If they do not have an outlet for their natural instincts, they will invent new and fun jobs for themselves, which frequently include guardian of the world and/or their possessions and family, chasing cars, hunting birds, bugs or leaves, or endlessly digging in the soil. Dirt is my friend Bathing and Shedding After getting dirty, Jack Russell Terriers are not overly fond of taking a bath (use a gentle shampoo). You do not want to bathe them too often as it can lead to dry skin. Please note that the Jack Russell Terriers is NOT a non-shedding breed! All coat types shed! Smooth coats shed the most, dropping hair continuously year round. Rough coats maintain the guard and dead coat, requiring manual shedding a few times a year. Crate Training A Jack Russell Terriers should always be crate-trained. They can be very destructive if left unattended! Most behavioral problems are due to a lack of companionship, discipline, activity and exercise. If you've only seen perfect, well-behaved JR's, they are ones that were lucky enough to be exercised, well socialized, and trained. Love to Dig Jack Russell Terriers love to dig. You might want to say goodbye to your flower bed. They can also dig under, climb or jump over fences; some can climb trees and any height chain link fencing. The traits and skills that make them excellent hunting dogs (i.e., digging, barking, aggressive nature) are often interpreted as bad habits that cause people to give them up. Aggressive Toward Other Dogs Jack Russell Terriers are often aggressive with other dogs. Same-sex aggression and aggression towards other breeds of dogs is well documented with this terrier. It is strongly recommended that no more than two Jack Russells (of opposite sex only) ever be permitted to stay together unattended. Big Dog ... Little Body Jack Russell Terriers are are a big dog in a little body. They have the same need (or more!) for exercise as a much larger dog... and the mentality to match -- they think they are at least 150 pounds, and are fearless, often challenging other dogs three times their size. About those Small Animals ... Jack Russell Terriers are commonly known to harass, injure or kill other small pets, such as cats, birds, rabbits, mice, rats, etc., simply due to their strong natural hunting instinct. Raising a puppy with a cat does not guarantee the cat's life-long safety! Children Jack Russell Terriers will not tolerate even unintended mistreatment from a child. They will not put up with typical child handling such as pulling of ears, tails, etc., or taking or "sharing" of the dog's bones, food, toys, etc. Jack Russells are not recommended for households with children under the age of six unless you are previously experienced with JRTs. Breeding Jack Russell Terriers make wonderful parents. However, breeding is risky business and should not be undertaken lightly. Breeders should follow the Breeders Code of Ethics, have their breeding stock BAER and CERF tested, and breed only to JRTCA-registered terriers. Loved by their Owners Jack Russell Terriers can become very possessive of their owner or a favorite member of the family or of what they consider to be their personal property if allowed to do so to the point of showing aggressive protective behavior that must be controlled from an early age. On the Run Jack Russell Terriers absolutely need a securely fenced yard! Jack Russells will roam due to their hunting instincts.... even if left in an unsecured for a few minutes! You can let them out every day for three years with no trouble.... but one day they will disappear and may never come back. Many JR's have been killed by cars by darting into the road in pursuit of a squirrel, cat, etc. Fearless Jack Russell Terriers are fearless and require firm, consistent discipline. They are extremely intelligent, continue to test their limits throughout their life. More often than not, train their owners before the owner knows what has happened! This ability to train their owners can include displays of aggressive behavior. Their assertive nature must be understood and handled properly! JRTs Around the World Jack Russell Terriers can be found throughout the world. There are large concentrations of the breed in the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, Sweden, South Africa and many other countries. Long-Term Commitment Jack Russell Terriers require a long-term commitment to obedience, activity, exercise and entertainment... their unique character, intelligence and high energy level can frustrate you, will undoubtedly entertain you, and can bring you great joy or great grief. If this type of relationship does not appeal to you, then consider another breed. This post has been edited by nairud: Oct 27 2005, 10:47 AM |

Speaking of terriers, i think rotts and pitbulls have the same attitude and temper... but why is it pitbulls are banned in so many countries around the world while rotts can go for competitions? Rotts mauling small kid, old lady... i've seen some people owning pitbulls but've never heard about them mauling anybody in M'sia so far. I heard a fully grown pit can finish a rott in approx 5 seconds.

Yeah, Pet shops do sell them. I'd recommend you to get from a breeder. You can call up MKA and ask for Yorkshire terrier breeders who's expecting a litter or having a litter now. That if you're planning to get one now.For their temperament, what you expect from it is the same like all other terriers. it is ever eager for adventure and trouble. This little dog is highly energetic, brave, loyal and clever. Affectionate with its master, but sometimes suspicious of strangers. It can be aggressive to strange dogs and small animals. In other words, it has true Terrier heritage. |

My mom pampers him like mad. He's really active but sometimes when he sleeps... takes up alot of space.. have to push him around and he doesn't bother waking up Loves his tennis balls. sometimes chase after the ball but can't break... crash into the door I have 2 adult dogs that tolerates with him but Combi think's that he's big enough to bully the bigger dogs |

QUOTE(smellyocheese @ Dec 21 2005, 01:30 AM) Nice one. And yes, since your Combi has JRT genes, they're crazy over balls and also just becareful with the other 2 adult dogs. JRT tends to think that they're as big as other big dogs eventhough they're in a small body. They feel that they can take on anyone anytime anywhere. |

QUOTE(smellyocheese @ Dec 21 2005, 02:11 PM) hehehe. you can put them together as long as you're sure that they will not attack Combi. from the time you got combi until now, did combi get into any trouble with them? if not i'm quite sure that they'll get along well.yeah.. lol. my adults dogs, at least my female is alright. she has this big-sisterly instinct towards combi. she even lets him eat from her bowl and he's the one growling at her
my adult male dog is more like the strict uncle. he'll allow you to poke around all you want until he gets really irritated then he barks and sometimes snaps at the naughty one but without any intention of hurting. he just scares the lil fella. I'm just afraid tht combi would think tht he's the big guy there. he has tried barking and growling at my big dogs before but this afternoon's play session was alright. |

it's a terrier fgs. that's why they need attention and exercises to fully occupy their mind. Get some nyla bone, some chewable toys. Let combi wreck havoc onto them instead of your stuffs.

squeeky toy would be another good addition. If he's interesteed with it, then you can start training fetch already. throw any toy away and when he managed to grab it into his mouth, call for him to come over to you.

lol. he's really good at fetch. he knows how to bring the ball back to whoever has thrown it... but he doesn't realease the ball
"exchange with another toy".... have you seen a puppy with two tennis balls in his mouth? (only for a few seconds) |

how tall and heavy do JRTs actually grow?
cuz mine's starting to look like a border collie already (he's mixed JRT and maltese but he's getting pretty big) Some of his habits and odd character: - His favourite TV channel is Playhouse Disney. We didn't want him to be lonely so we on the TV for him... and how we know tht Channel 63 is his fave is tht he poops in front of the TV when we put on a different channel! This happened a few times. When it's channel 63, no poop. different channel, got poop. Since when, we put channel 63 and no more poop - We couldn't exactly toilet train him... he developed a habit of going to the upstairs toilet and pooping in there. We didn't approve at first but then he would keep opening the door (no lock so we just close it) and pooping inside... also since then, he's kinda trained himself to poop in the toilet. So, when he feels like pooping when he's watching tv, he'd run upstairs to poop - He loves playing with water! We put a large pail 1/2 filled with water and he'd splash the water, get himself all wet then charges into other dog that is dry - my mom let him play with a 500ml 100 plus bottle one day. I told my mom that maybe he can open the bottle cap... and he managed! although it was only one time |

There are 2 variants of Jack Russells: Jack Russell Terrier and Parson Russell Terrier.
JRT is around 6-8" tall at the withers and PRT is around 10-12" at the withers. JRT weighs around 5-6.5kg. More than that can be considered fat already or doesn't conform to the breed standard. well, at least yours knows how to poop in a toilet. Piper will wait for me until i come back from work around 7pm the earliest. anyway, i'm breeding Piper now. Found a good male JRT. |

Just like how she trained me! I'm an only child and I get to "manja" but I'm not spoiled. When ppl around, she will come and manja and sleep besides. She like to be with ppl btw, she is a miniature pinscher My dogs have the ability to understand how we feel about people. They can recognise who are out friends by how we react with the people who come over. Even when I just "pretend" to like someone, my dogs will know and would hardly entertain those ppl. If they know that I dislike some people, they'd bark at them |

rite on groovemaster.
anyway, this morning, piper was up the whole nite walking around , jumping onto my bed, etc and the worst was jump onto the window pane while sustaining her body on her two front legs. I woke up because of the constant scratching on the wall by her back legs. I guess the damn rat managed to come into my room thru the balcony again at nite. gotta get a rat cage and set it on my roof top already |

QUOTE(groovemaster @ Mar 18 2006, 02:47 PM) U seem pretty active. Most people I know keep dem indoors coz dey r prone 2 investigating any movement or sound, hence may rush out 2 d road ven d gates r opened. Think most owners prefer deir pets indoors unless dey r too big or clumsy...but hey, d Gwailohs even hv Labs, GRs n GDanes running inside deir houses! Cool. That is ok,anyway, i do have a garden outside.JRTs r small n will fit nicely indoors. With indoor pets, think its more fun n enjoyable coz u'll hv another shadow following u around n u get 2 c all deir habits n funny rituals. Of course, with a JRT in d house, u'll den hv 2 put up with d perpetual request 4 playtime. How much exercise JRT needs? |

Furthermore, are there 2 species of JRT, I mean 1 with short fur & the other with long fur? JRTs come in smooth (short), broken (medium) n rough (long) n all 3 coats will shed a fair bit. Dun worry bout d JRT having 2 look after itself, dey r a very feisty breed...worry more bout ur Lab getting pushed around instead JRTs usually get along better with d opposite sex, hence a male JRT may gv more face 2 ur female Lab. Labs r usually a very gentle breed n most JRTs, I've seen get along very well with d gentller breeds...coz can bully n take advantage of dem |

Yeah this kinda club thingy needs alot of support from the members, not to mention time spend. Anybody participate in the obedient lessons at the field near the Jalan Templer roundabout? I see many ppl bring their doggies there on the weekend. Not sure if we have to pay though.

Dog OB lessons r held at Jln Gasing/Templer, Tmn Desa n Subang n usually cost bout RM150 for 10 lessons.
Main thing bout setting up a club is 2 find a dog friendly field or park where members can meet up n enjoy some activities with deir pooches or even just laze around 4 a picnic. |

Dont confuse yourself between a JRT and a Tenterfield Terrier
![]() ![]() Description: The measurement of wither to ground and wither to rear point of buttock should be of equal proportions. The length of the head and neck should always be in balance to the whole of the dog. The tail is preferably docked. The head is medium sized in proportion to the body. The head is only slightly arched between the ears. Domed or apple heads are highly undesirable. When viewed from the front and side, the head is to be wedge shaped and well filled in under the eyes. The stop is moderate and when measured from that point to the occiput it equals the distance from the stop to the tip of the nose with parallel plain. The color of the nose is preferably black with the exception of a true liver, which will have a liver nose. There should be strength in the muzzle. The eyes are not large, protruding or round, but slightly oval in shape. As dark as possible with a keen expression and pigmented eye rims. Light eyes and wall eyes are to be discouraged. The ears are V shaped with slightly rounded tips, set high on the outer edge of the skull erect or semi - erect. If semi-erect, the top third of the ear tips forward. Not wide or large at the base, rather medium in size. The length of the ear to be roughly equal to the width between the ears. The ears are of a thin texture (not thick). The mouth has strong jaws with full dentition and scissor bite. Lips to be tight fitting and pigmented. A wry mouth should be heavily penalized. The neck is strong and clean of good length allowing head to be carried proudly. The shoulders are well sloped back and not too heavily muscled. Forelegs are of strong round bone in keeping with the size of the dog, straight when viewed from any angle with sufficient length of the upper arm, which is well angled to the scapula ensuring the elbows are set under the body with the sternum clearly in front of the shoulder blades. The body is short, compact with a level topline, strong without slackness, with powerful loins. Ribs moderately sprung, back ribs deep and reaching well back with only a slight tuck up. The chest is of moderate width and reaching in depth to the level of the elbow, but not below. The Tenterfield Terrier is not too heavily muscled. The rump is well rounded with only a slight slope to the croup. The thighs are long and powerful. The stifle is well bent and the hocks well let down. The pastern should be parallel when viewed from the rear, and vertical when viewed from the side. The feet are compact, round shaped, toes moderately arched. The tail is preferably docked (3rd joint), high set and erect when alert but not carried over the back Carried gaily showing bold temperament. Sometimes a natural bobtail occurs. The fore and hind legs carried straight forward and parallel. The elbows should move perpendicular to the body, working clear of the sides, stifles neither turning in nor out and the hocks not close, with good rear drive coming from the well flexing hindquarters. The single coat should be short and of smooth texture. Coat colors are predominantly white with black, liver and/or tan markings in its various tones. Brindle markings acceptable but not preferred. Full color coats are not acceptable. Skin should always be pigmented. Temperament: The Tenterfield Terrier is a strong, active, agile working terrier of great versatility and of pleasing proportion. Bright, happy and confident, with an eagerness to learn showing great loyalty to its owner. Fearless, bold, keen, and very intelligent with an alert expression. This breed can be stubborn at times. This terrier is a useful working dog and a wonderful companion. These dogs are terriers and even though they are small, they do exhibit all the terrier characteristics. They do best with an owner who understand the true terrier. (Terriers are often described as quick to bark, quick to chase, lively, bossy, feisty, scrappy, clever, independent, stubborn, persistent, impulsive and intense). Like all terriers, it takes loving patients to train them. They respond well to a positive reinforcement method of training and yelling and hitting will not get a good response from this loving breed. They are loving and friendly and love nothing more than a cuddle in your lap, and they love to curl up with you in bed. The Tenterfield Terrier does best with older considerate children who will play games such as fetch with them. Socializing with other dogs in a neutral setting like a Dog Obedience Club is a wonderful idea. This breed can be dog aggressive, however if they are introduced on equal terms and allowed to use normal doggy language, they will can get along with other dogs without problems. This terrier should not be trusted with non-canine pets such as mice, or guinea pigs. They do have the typical, very strong terrier chase and kill instinct. Terriers were bred to control vermin and the Tenterfield Terrier is all terrier. This means that rodents and Tenterfield Terriers should be kept separated, although the dog may learn to tolerate the rodent in time. A lot of Tenterfield terriers will get along will with cats who stand their ground but will chase cats who are scared and who run. Some Tenterfields never get along with cats, while others do, sleeping together like best friends. The Tenterfield Terrier can become destructive, and noisy if they are bored. They need human companionship. They would love to accompany you everywhere - they love walking, hiking and jogging. They will even run behind your horse if you have one and like to ride. They are good retrievers, good swimmers and good at Obedience and Agility. And whether you have one or a dozen or more they are all happy individuals who love to be by your side. Origin: The Tenterfield Terrier was developed by crossing the Standard Fox Terriers (Smooth) with the Manchester Black and Tan or English Toy Terriers (Black & Tan). At a later stage the Whippet was introduced. At one stage Chihuahua was used but any outcrossing to other breeds is now quite forbidden. Though the Tenterfield Terrier originated in England in the 1800's, it was developed into the type it is today in Australia, making it one of only a few truly Australian bred dogs. It is found nowhere else in the world. The breed is sometimes confused with the Jack Russell, However they are some quite different. |

Wah this could be scary.. do u think breeders will crossbreed this 2?
@ Groovemaster, I can see diferences in the ear, issit all JRT have pointed down ears, and not pointed up ones? I see the pictures that u post and some from the internet and JRT ears points down, not pointed up, even Piper have no pointed down ears. Correct me if I'm wrong. But the eyes part, issit JRT's have rounder eyes? Im learning to spot the differences here. This post has been edited by Jenn77: Mar 28 2006, 11:31 PM |

JRT std: Ears should b small V shaped n dropped, carried forward close 2 d head ie. flop forward 2 d front with tip folded near/above corner of eye (when alert). Eyes shld b almond shape, full of life n intelligence, dark rims desirable.
Piper's ears r fine ie. folded down. Some JRT clubs also accept prick or pointed ears but dis is not preferred. If u dun intend 2 show ur JRT, den it dun really matter. More important is dat pup shld b in good health, appears alert, fairly active n inquisitive. But u never know, d quietest 1 may turn out 2 b d neighbourhood speed demon. |

QUOTE(Jenn77 @ Mar 28 2006, 11:22 PM) Piper's ears are not prick and it is pointing down. having their ears pointed down has its use for a JRT. When they go underground with all the digging, folded ears provide some sort of protection to the ears so that earth and other other alien objects will not drop into the ears. That's why each breed of dogs have their own use for each part of their bodies.Another way to see a good JRT is by looking at the portion of the skull where it meets up with the ears. It should be almost flat. I've seen JRTs with rounded skull at the part connecting both ears. |

Thanks nairud and groovemaster for the detail explanation. I'm currently waiting for my neighbour to intro me to one his friend who happen to be a breeder. I might take his JRT picz and post it up later. His JRT is wretling with the baby American pitbull terrier. He said that he dont intend to train his APT to fight, but just as a guard dog.

Darn~ Went to a petshop ner my house, they called me after the JRT arrived, less than a month old. The puppy is selling for rm 1430, with MKA Cert and 1st vaccine. Im so sad the puppy is in bad condition, minor skin disease, eyes covered with dried pus and some blood! Imagine that! Is selling for over 1.4k in such condition. I was disappointed and left the shop. After a 2 days I returned, the puppy is still in the same condition, with imrpoved skind condition. It was shivering in the cage. Poor fella.. I have made up my mind not to buy from that petshop.

Actually Im doing some survey now. I need to gather some info on breeders, best is by recommendation from ppl who's either in the industry or friends. My labs are actually no cert but the breeder told me the other way round. I knew that he asked some printing company to help him make some certs. Im so pissed off. Im hoping to get a male at the end of the year. Hopefully I can get a proper JRT, with help from all u seniors out there. Thanks for all the input. I will be going to the Bangsar Sports Complex soon.. waana feel the real JRT spirit. @Nairud, congrats at being MKA member.. wont hesistate to grab ur pupps if its smooth coat.. coz my mum got asthma.. @Darren C, Im from KL.. As long as you can feel the ribs when you hold your JRT and yet you can see the ribs when you're looking at it , that's ok.
If you can see the ribs, then it's thin If you cant see the ribs and you cant feel the ribs, that's fat. |

this is my own breeding
we breed most jrt in penang last time used to import about 7 jrt from aus this pups is from the best male and female parents both m'sian champ now got 1 pup 3.5 months left from this both 1 another litter goin to deliver in few weeks time father is this 1 but mother is another female i feed them usin my house brand - Diamond USA and some supplement i give chicken legs and pork ribs sometimes (maybe once in a week) raw bone is very good for dog cause it contain alot natrual enzymes but make sure is fresh 1 or else use boiled water to wash it 1st but chicken bone not so recommended cause the bone is sharp.....but chicken legs and necks ok but have to chop the nails 1st giving more rice is more carbonhydrate (i dont know how to spell) only cause inside dog food all contain rice diamond is using real meat and brown rice as main ingredient jrt easy to get skin problem also so maybe can change to lamb based food but make sure there is not CORN and WHEAT inside the lamb dog food corn and wheat cost is cheap compare to rice in US eg : science diet is based more on corn alot my customer complain at 1st they used it no problem but after half year or more the dog become allergic and skin problem appears after explain to them they change to lamb and without corn and wheat then the skin problem disappear this is just my personal experience to share TQ |

Cn gv me a call at 016-6928186 just 2 make sure v r at d complex shld u decide 2 drop by. JRTs coat should b predominantly white, markings (brown or black) should ideally b confined 2 d head n tail area. Patches on d body is permissable as long as white is d dominant colour. U r rite. JRTs should maintain d working dog physique ie. slim waist, fairly trim n muscular, rugged, alert n always ready 2 go. Msians tend 2 spoil deir dogs with too many treats n too little exercise n play. |

So no worries but ya better ask them just to make sure.besides, those 6 in 1 or 9 in 1 cost around 90-120 depending on which brand of vaccine the vet use. |

QUOTE A "puppy miller" to me is a "taker" and a true loser as they see the world around them only in monetary terms. Whether they operate a 500 dog operation with their dogs crowded in rabbit hutches or whether they operate out of their family home with the dogs living in dark garages, basements, and bedrooms in tiny cages--it makes little difference excepting in the magnitude of suffering they can inflict upon their little prisoners. They don't aspire to create beauty and better the world around them. Instead they are driven by greed. I suspect as children they did not learn "empathy" and cannot feel or understand the suffering they cause. They are the losers as their lives are stressful and lack joy. They produce, but they cannot CREATE. Behind their smiles are empty half-dead shells capable of little more than adding and subtracting. Normally, they have good sales skills and will try to convince you that they are "good" folks who love their dogs. Normally, they will turn over from breed to breed depending upon the supply and demand of the market. When you hand over your money and leave with your dog do not expect more as these empty souls can't give you what they do not have. When you buy a dog from a true breeder who loves his breed a tiny piece of that breeder goes with you. The dog you bring home is his creation born out of his need to share, his need to bring beauty and love into the lives of others. He will be there for you when you have questions and needs. Treat this person gently as he is a tender soul. The puppy miller sees a champion on a pedigree in terms of $$$$$. The dedicated breeder will hold a vision of that champion in his head and feel a brief feeling of joy upon seeing that dog's name that a puppy miller can never understand. The puppy miller is a loser, a taker, spoiler, an artless ******* to be pitied at best. They do not aspire, but merely toil to produce. Like the clever psychopath they are without empathy for others and the living world around them. Despise them if you wish, fear them, but don't forget to pity them. To know whether your pup is vaccinated or not, from the breeder i got Piper, he'll include a medical card of Piper to me with the recorded vaccines but if you decide to change to your own vet, your vet will provide you with another medical record. This will also allow you to get dog license without any prob |

An xray normally cost Rm50 to Rm100. Their consultation fees are high there that's why. My area, setapak, genting kelang, consultation fees is only Rm20, sometimes if there is nothing wrong with my dog, FOC consultation wan. Where you stay? Normally I'd recommend Healing Rooms, Mayo Clinic and Brickfield's vet. They charge reasonable prices and are good knowledgeable vets. PS: You can get the info from the vet clinic thread. Another noob question, where do you guys keep ur JRT's? In the voyager? In a cage or let them roam free destroying everything and anything in sight..

QUOTE(Jenn77 @ Apr 8 2006, 11:10 PM) Yup some people luv dressing up n fussing with deir dogs, nothing wrong with dat as long as dey dun go overboard. Dats why toy n lap dogs r popular here n there's always a Beauty Contest at any dog event. Not my idea of fun coz dun really showcase a dog's natural talents. Who's gonna take dogs seriously if v continue 2 dress dem up like dat? As 2 keeping JRTs at home, d transport crate is way too small. Cage, try 2 get d biggest possible. Or u can get a play pen or barricade an area (eg. kitchen) with a child safety gate, much more space but d JRT may soon learn 2 jump over it as he gets older. Ven a pup, tried putting groovy in a cage n he hated it. Den v tried 2 keeping him in d kitchen area but he soon learn 2 jump over d child's gate. So v let him hv hv access 2 d lounge, detroyed 1 couch but has settled down nicely after 1yo n hs left d furniture alone since. U cn try keeping ur pup in a large cage or play pen till he's older, reliable n more settled. Den its ideal 2 gv him access to more space eg. lounge, kitchen n back yard. He'll thank u 4 dat. |

No expectation on the coat because it's too small to judge. It'll take around 4 -6 months to really judge how the coat looks like. |

Guys, would like to know what is the best way to introduce my JRT puppy to my pair of 7 year old labradors. The male lab should b ok but the problem lies at the female lab, which is very temperemental and jealous. I have a mix breed female shih tzu 2 years ago, was attacked by the female lab. So I worry it might happen again. Somehow, my mum discourage me to keep a the JRT. Any ideas, please help.

Like I've said, male JRTs wun shy away from d 'Top Dog' routine ven placed with other male breeds, no matter d size. |

Activity level is d same. Just watch dese short legged JRTs at d races ... Really depends on how u bring up ur dog. If u encourage him 2 run in open spaces, jump over drains n climb over playground equipt, den naturally he'll b more agile n swift. Coz of d lack of dog sports, activities n open spaces 2 run in dis country, I wldnt recommend a dog like groovy which is hyperactive So a less hyper JRT suits most owners here, less hyper is good...dey can still perform all d activities n tricks if trained properly. Btw, read somewhere dat d smooth coats shed d most. |

Haha hi guys, went thru 12 pages of this thread. I'm moving to a new house next month @ Bayu Damansara. My dog passed away early this year, =( so I'm actually very very very interested to get a JRT next month..
Do you guys know what kind of JRT is this? I'm kinda confused with JRTs, some are tall, some are with lotsa furs, some are..weird? haha i'm confused! I'm actually looking at this type of JRT? Is it a smooth type of JRT? ![]() or ![]() or this video from google..really like this type. you guys know any breeders for this type JRT? http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1...terrier&pl=true |

We supposed to have 6 pups. 3 came out normally and when we felt for the abdomen we noticed there's still pups inside. waited for like 6 hours also nothin, did induced labour but still cannot. lastly did C section. 2 died inside and one survived.
damnit!!! i should've bring her to vet already when it's 4 hours since the last pup came out |

QUOTE(Jenn77 @ Apr 17 2006, 08:00 PM) whats the best time to get a JRT pup, a month old? And issit visible of their height? Pup shld stay with mum till at least 2 mths old. Between 2-4 mths is ven d pup is most impressionable n will learn good/ bad habits. So between 2-3 mths old is a good time 2 bring d pup home. Height shld b visible by 3 mths. |

Didnt make any noise, how about JRT pupps? For toilet train and basic stuffs, we should train them at this age? I mean 2 to 3 months. Honestly, my labs are not very discipline. |

Should've not gone to work after lunch. i took EL already yesterday but decided to go back since there's work that need to be finish by today. Ended up having a bad day. Dolly was with me yesterday since 9-10am and she helped be buy a table lamp. She's at my place now. Later she'll get a small tin of puppy milk. the smallest one seems to eat less and dunno how to suck that well. sigh. I'm still sad at the lost of 2 pups. The only female in the whole litter didnt make it. Somemore the body marking is very nice. Whole body including face is white with a bit of tan color on the ears only i'm mourning today for the lost of those two who didn't manage to see the light of this world. *damn, my eyes are watery already* darren-c, are you goin to dock the pups tails? i rather find it inhuman since they are cut without anesthetic This post has been edited by nairud: Apr 19 2006, 12:26 PM |

All dogs look cute ven dey r pups, but dey grow up pretty fast n d cuteness may soon fade away. So b very sure of wat u r looking 4 in a dog, cute alone isnt a good reason 4 getting a dog. Short legged JRTs can grow up to anything between 10"-14" at d withers. Nairud's JRT, Piper, just hd a litter so u may wanna check dem out in 2 mths time. |

at what length should the tail be docked? Terrier.com states that cut off only 1/3 of the length but i think it's kinda long. |

Today I was lucky enough to meet another breeder. Unfortunately the mother doesnt really look like a JRT, mainly because of the almond shaped eyes, elongated / sharp snout and comes with alot of tiny brown sport all over her body. There are a male and female puppy up for grabs.
I have a small clip of the male puppy JRT which is going up for RM 900 (without cert and jabs) Anybody interested please PM me. |

The breeder just kept quiet oni. One thing I wanted to share and really felt dissappointed about is some of those petshop around my area (which the breeder's younger brother happen to work as part timer, Mr.X) took a few of the different species of puppies for sell, that are only 1 month old! Very sad to say, some didnt make it, and some died after ppl buy and keep them up to the 2nd and 3rd month! |

Good cages are often pricy.... What type you looking for? Size? Mine is 3ft long, 2ft high and 2ft wide... and that cost my parents about RM150... If 2ft by 2ft by 2ft.... can get Rm50 but it is too small loh....

ya know, why cage it, buy a 3x2x2 cage and 5 pieces of playpen. then build an enclosure with the cage. voila..better than being stucked in the cage more than 10 hours

Coz we used a table to cover the top, she pushed the fencing a bit and happily climb out from a small gap... that's why 2 out of the 5 will be used to cover the top but sometimes she'll manage to come out |

Two big labs outside, dont know if the will terrorize the pup. So I think Im going for the bigger cage. RM 120 type. Dimension wise I think should be 3' X 1.6' x 1.6' in spray paint white. |

err.. bout the labs, dont worry. If your labs are friendly, intro to them but make sure you're holding the pup. ya wouldn't want them to bite him/her just in case. See how are their response.
Old klang road vets? haven't heard of their reputation but if you dare to venture further away to get a better vet, i'd recommend St Angels beside Tesco Puchong. I like the way they inject stuffs into dogs, not directly but they'll inject it under the skin and let it absord slowly into the blood stream. The vets there are real cool and friendly too esp Dr Agas. edit: Destructive? a bit but at least now Piper wouldn't bite ppl's shoes after one instance where she got a handful of me when she's young tht time. Occasionally she'll but my astro cable which shocked her until she vomitted. I hope she learnt her lesson This post has been edited by nairud: May 3 2006, 09:11 AM |

QUOTE(nairud @ May 18 2006, 02:49 PM) Really?! Thanks Nairud for the info.. There are a total of 5 JRT pup's available in the shop, but in no good shape! Another thing to take note that is probably mixed. The price are around 850 to 980 each with no cert. Honestly many visitors are tempted with the Siberian Husky pup, looks damn nice.. with a price tag of RM 3899.. phew.. I still like JRT, alot... Nairud, if ur free pls show us some picz of ur pups.. ok? This post has been edited by Jenn77: May 20 2006, 12:27 AM |

Hey Nairud, issit common for JRT's to get ear infections? I read somewhere that it's because they have drop ears and thus they dont get any good ventilation in the ears, so ear infection is imminent. And usually do u clean Piper's ears? Coz my sis clean the lab ears with some oils bought from the vets.. if not their ears will have some foul smell.

Nah...when Piper is around 8 onths old until now, i've never clean her ears except when i bathe her. No foul smell or whatever.
Generally, a JRT ears are made to be folded because when they go underground, sands and other stuffs might dropped into the ear cavity if the ears are standing. So, folded ears are its purpose. edit: ya got yourself a jrt already? This post has been edited by nairud: May 29 2006, 07:21 PM |

QUOTE(Jenn77 @ May 29 2006, 06:57 PM) Hey Nairud, issit common for JRT's to get ear infections? I read somewhere that it's because they have drop ears and thus they dont get any good ventilation in the ears, so ear infection is imminent. And usually do u clean Piper's ears? Coz my sis clean the lab ears with some oils bought from the vets.. if not their ears will have some foul smell. have to always do ear cleaning 1 cannot lazy o what dog also same 1 drop ear stand ear also same 1 alot of customer dog facing this problem some after use the ear solution can cure some if stop using it the problem comes again its like skin problem, have to see luck also 1 |

Ears dun really smell much but still hv 2 clean dem at least once a week, after bath. Havent really encountered any JRT with ear infection yet. Deir ears r only slightly flopped, so dey still get some ventilation unlike Spaniels. |

I've taken care of my mixed breed for 11 years, she passed away peacefully (no disease, no injections those tat make them sleep) early this year, like i've mentioned before in my very first few posts in this thread. her last breath was..sad..sob sob..now u've reminded me bout her.. =( hehe wan me to post some pics of her and me..pretty long time ago.. haha, she does look a lil like JRT, but her ears are pointed. eek |

where do you leave? Do you have a compound for it to run? Have you read/know everything one needs to know about jrt? What kinda lifestyle you're having? How long will you be away from the dog? Any other ppl that can take care of the dog when you're out working/studying?
All these kinda questions will surely be asked by responsible breeder/seller if they want to sell to you. |

I have been wanting a JRT for ages and ages, it's actually a tie between them and beagles for my ideal dogs. My bf's mom is very particular about what dogs to keep since prolly before getting our own place we MIGHT need to live with them after getting married (yeah yeah I demands dogs as dowry lol!).
How can I convince her JRTs are good dogs? I don't want a poodley-lapdpg (no offense to poodles). |

Awww thanks for the pointers.
She is realllly picky. Said one reason why she chose a mini schnauzer is because the males pee squatting and she doesn't want em to mess up whole house (her dogs have never been outdoors 'cept to the vet!_) O_O Got such thing meh. ;_; And she took one look at a JRT pup in the pet shop, says: "Hmmpf looks like the type tht barks alot." |

Yes, a dog is for life. Piper is definately my preciousssssnesssss. Sometimes i treat her more than my gf
Training sure takes time and effort. If you have the will, you can train him/her like how you want it to be. Besides, they do tend to stick to one person ya know. So, better becareful so that the JRT wouldn't stick to your gf |

Well who else is bringing their 'precious' over to Olympic Day? My labs definitely a 'no-no'. Shadow also too small to participate. Would like him to settle down 1st.

Played with my neighbour's JRT just now. My mum notice that the short legged JRT's body is full of small bumps under the coat. And there seems to be some minor spot on the body where there are no fur. Maybe a rough play with the APT resulted this.. but the small bumps.. anybody can help? Issit common for JRT's to develop skin problems.. other than that the dog is nice. Will upload some pictures when Im free..

Spots on a JRT body is normal. If not, then it's hard to say they're pure JRT imo.

QUOTE(nairud @ Jun 12 2006, 10:38 PM) Im not referring to the brown spots, Im referring to the spot with no fur and small bumps. IMHO, spots or no spots on a JRT's body cannot guarantee its a pure JRT, I've seen JRT's with nice brown markings on their body but already mix with Fox Terrier. only the elongated snout and small sharp eyes differentiate it. |

The place where's there no fur and you can see brown spots, that is normal on a JRT.
Small bumps? go check with a vet. |

QUOTE(nairud @ Jun 21 2006, 09:29 AM) we continue here Well its nice to find surprises in our JRT's. I can say that they are intelligent, can understand commands pretty well. Merely 8 weeks old, can understand 'NO' and 'SIT'. As nairud said, climbing up the staircase is another past time, and jumping up from the floor to my mums lap or onto the sofa, funny! And for the toilet train part is most time consuming and needs alot of patience. Currently me and my gf taking turns to train the little terrist! Any tips.. ?! I'm officially a JRT owner! Yipeeeee, got hold of Gimli yesterday from nairud.
Geez, Gimli is really hyper, we reached home around 11pm from nairud's place, and played till around 3am only he wants to sleep. haha.. funniest thing happened yesterday was Gimli crawled like those soldiers under the barb wires haha, he crawled to get his toy o.O , also my dad pampered him on his lap, and managed to get him to sleep, hahahaha.. Gimli's head was on my dad's lap sleeping like nobody's business, then when I tried to wake Gimli up, he opened his eyes, looked at me for a sec and turned away and continue his sleep..ahhahaa... cute lil boy, still pooping/peepee outside the cage though, took him for a walk and he didnt manage to poo/pee thx again nairud This post has been edited by spcx: Jun 27 2006, 11:58 AM |

D rough coat type will require some hand stripping, otherwise may look a little untidy. If u wish to c some pics of JRTs with different coats, go to page 6 of dis thread. |

Our beloved Moose has passed away last month
QUOTE Story posted on the BBC website on Wednesday, 28 June 2006 Rip Moose Moose played Frasier Crane's father's dog for 10 years Moose the dog, better known as Eddie in US sitcom Frasier, has died aged 16 in Los Angeles, his trainer has said. The Jack Russell terrier passed away of old age last week at trainer Mathilde Halberg's home, she told People magazine and the Access Hollywood show. "He just had an incredible charisma and was a such a free spirit, " Ms Halberg said of Moose, who appeared in 192 Frasier episodes from 1993. Moose shared the part of Eddie with his son, Enzo. He made his first appearance on the long-running Cheers spin-off in the first episode on 16 September 1993, retiring 10 years later in 2003. The show finished in 2004. 'Consummate professional' His fictional owner, retired policeman Marty Crane (John Mahoney), announced the dog's full name was Eddie Spaghetti: "Because he has worms." Moose's ability to stare at lead actor Kelsey Grammer for extended periods became a running joke on the programme. Moose with Frasier Moose was renowned for being able to stare at Kelsey Grammer When he had to lick his co-stars, however, liver pate was dabbed behind their ears to achieve the required response, Mahoney once revealed. During the height of Frasier's popularity, Moose received more fan mail than any of his human counterparts. "He's like a robot," Mahoney told Animal Press magazine in 1994. "A consummate professional who works hard learning his tricks." Moose also played the title role in 2000 film My Dog Skip. According to Ms Halberg, Moose was 16-and-a-half when he died on Thursday. Other sources, however, quote his birthdate as 24 December 1990, which would make him 15 at the time of his demise. |

Heya!
Im back! Im currently bz with Shadow and some freelancing work. Well its true that male JRT's are hard to train. Too bad Shadow is under medication due to some parasites infection in the stomach, the vet is giving him some antibiotics and sometimes he throw up the food. Be very cautious though, JRT's are really active even though they are sick! U cant really differentiate it. Shadow's last jab is due on the 22nd of July and after that its ready for the field task! (Hopefully!) I will be glad if all the young JRT's (spcx's, nairud's) and the seniors ones (nairud's, groovemaster) can have a gathering and I do pray hard that Shadow will get well soon. Neway thanks alot for Nairud & Groovemaster for all the advice given! Go Shadow! Btw, was curious, I know that sumtimes the grass field is usually full of ticks, how do u guys avoid that? Any special remedy? |

I read in some article in the internet that Brewer's Yeast with Garlic and some natural remedy (from plants) can actually help to prevent ticks and fleas. Ticks and fleas just hate the garlic smell. |

QUOTE(Jenn77 @ Jul 12 2006, 11:13 PM) Btw, it seems that around 4 to 5 months old the pup will start to change the milk teeth, so anyone waana recommend wuts good for them to chew? Shadow currently quite possesive and like to play tug of war.. sumtimes he will bark loudly when we dont giv him the thing he wants.. he just nvr gives up! LOL.. Cn try kongs, nylabones and tough rawhide bones. Bit more expensive but dey definitely last longer. Just make sure dat dey r safe. But if u were 2 ask him, he wld rather b chewing on ur shoes, cushion n sofa ... so try n keep dis items out of reach ven u r not at home. Btw, nice pix of Shadow. Nice markings n very large floppy ears. Latest pix? This post has been edited by groovemaster: Jul 13 2006, 03:23 PM |

We picked it out and BBQ it.. to crisp. Just worry that those ticks might have laid some nasty eggs during their time there. Neway will get some medicated dog shampoo this weekend. I know that Front Line is good but it might be too strong for the pup. Well hope everything goes well, wont want it to spread to my Labradors.. else my mum will kill me.. ![]() Hmm wuts that.. is pink and its.. ![]() Wuts up doc? Am I under arrest? ![]() Resting time.. Shadow went to the vet today for a checkup for parasites.. Guess wut?!! He is clear of it and in good health, except that we need to feed Shadow some 'dog vitagen' to promote the healthy bacteria in his stomach. The antibiotic given earlier was strong and kills most of the bad and good bacteria's. Starting from tomorrow, Shadow will enjoy a good boost of 'dog vitagen'. Ticks update, vet found none on the body, but for safety precaution, we bought a small bottle of Frontline and applied small amounts on Shadow's body. Now he looks even happier, with life free of ticks!

Dont feed the dog vitagen too much at one go. do lit little by little. you wouldn't want him to have stomach discomfort later. lucky we manage to save gimli last time.

Well its actually Pro-biotics, recommended by the vets. Due to stress and my antibiotic treatments, Shadow's digestive system had been disturbed. If left untreated, it will cause problems when Shadow grows older. Of course, we will monitor for any withdrawal action from Shadow, but so far just some soft stool. |

Come to think of it, it's not because of the multi vitamins that i fed him. He had pneumonia which we spent quite a sum on him as he was infected by one of the siblings

Shadow had diarrhoea this morning after the pro-biotics. Now we have decided not to give him anything at all until he is around 6 months. I dont know why, mebbe is just my naughty Shadow with a little sensitive stomach.QUOTE(RealityDreamer @ Jul 16 2006, 04:35 PM) Hey guys, Me too.. would like to know more about it.
