Hv yet 2 c a JRT executing d 'play dead' trick well. Dese guys r more keen on tricks involving movement eg. weaving thru legs, spinning n jumping tricks. Dey dun really enjoy staying still 4 any period of time  drool.gif ... of course, there r exceptions.

If u r still keen, cn try dis:
If he knows how 2 'belly up' ie. lie on back n expose his belly for a good rub, den all u hv 2 do is get him to stay still whilst in d 'belly up' position. Once he is comfortable with dis position, add a command n hand signal eg. 'Bang' n fingers shaped like a gun.

Sounds easy rite ... d tricky part is 2 get him 2 stay still with his belly exposed.  whistling.gif  JRTs arent exactly d submissive type, but good luck anyway.  cool.gif

Yah i know....anyway thanks for the tips....i'll try..my boy never sit still for a min...the only time it still is sleeping time rclxub.gif

hi all!!

thanks for all the advice... really helped! my gsd is pretty friendly with other dogs, and seem to do well with our resident cat (keep my fingers crossed so she doesn't one day turn around and chase the cat instead!)

been reading up on jrts, and my main concern is now whether it can learn to tolerate the cat, since they love to chase small animals. because the cat is the oldest pet in the house, i suppose i should give it 'priority' smile.gif

anyways, its amazing what you can teach a dog, especially the smarter ones like jrt... i've been told by a friend with a jrt the only thing he cannot do is learn to sit still!

yes, i will be at the dog-carnival-thing on 19th november. maybe i can meet up with other dog owners, we can have a good chat ya??

cheers all!
*
I quite doubtful on the cat thingy...JRT is red as a hunting dog..and it hunting instinct remain strong trhough out their life.....u need a lot of commitment and patience to train up a cat tolerant JRT...remember..it's hard for a JRT to resist the temptation of hunting down a prey....

Hey, my boy got it birth cert already...now need to go to MKA to change ownership....RM 200 gone icon_question.gif sweat.gif any1 care to make some donation hahahahaa blush.gif

hey, nice furkid u have there...i planning to adopt another furkid by next year...mayb a female pug or a female GR

Best Kisser - An event for true dog lovers or rather, dogs who are fond of licking people's faces. 20 seconds time frame and judging will be based on stamina, enthusiasm and the 'wet & wow' factor. The 3 smoothest kissers get the accolades.
Top 3 dogs will face off to determine the winner.

i'll be going for the best kisser...hehehee

cool.gif Saw dis fella on Carnival Day ... Tyrell? Also met Piper n Dookie, n must hv missed d rest.

Having good focus is a plus. To do agility, he'll need some basic OB skills eg. come, stay, sit. If he can focus on u well n enjoys running around with u, den dats a definite advantage.  tongue.gif
*
he do enjoy runinning w me...nowadays...i'm taking my boy for a jog in the park...and after the jog..i unleashed my boy and play chase with him...as for come, sit stay...he understand the message....but cannot stay long....hmmm...in that case i'll take my boy to OB class 1st...see u guys in few months time for the agility class....

How old is Tyrell? U dun really need perfect OB skills for agility. As long as ur dog is friendly, follows u n hs a fair recall, dats good enuf. Some OB training is good to hv but b careful not 2 diminish ur JRT's natural drive in d process. Once d drive is gone, its very hard to get back.  cool.gif
*
Tyrel is 6 months old by next month. I'm joining but wat's the time?

Is shadow in the class too???? Maybe Tyrel keen to meet with his kin...hehehehe

cool.gif Still a very young pup. Proper agility training will only commence ven dog is 1 yo to gv time for d joints 2 grow n fuse properly. But nothing to stop u from introducing mini-obstacles dat dun require much jumping eg. sliding under blankets, stepping on wooden plank, pausing on foot stool etc.

Since he is still very young, wld recommend taking up some puppy OB classes. After which he shld b ready for some mini-agility. Subang school is from 5-6pm, Sundays. Shadow is doing OB at Tmn Desa.

Mini Agility class??? can do....when does it start or i just walk in? as for OB class i believe i should join...

this dookie ar....almost 6am when my alarm is about to ring, he'll kacau already... my personal real-life alarm..jumping up the bed, pawing my feet..etc
*
i know how u feel...my boy do the same to me too...if i close the door it would cry n bark until i open the door and after i bump back to my bed...my boy would harrass me till i really wake up...

QUOTE(Jenn77 @ Nov 30 2006, 01:18 AM)
Shadow is doing OB in Tmn. Desa, 8.45 to 9.45am, basic agility (play play, test test only) at 10.00am, with trainer lor. Then Shadow is progressing well, 3 more classes before exam.. dunno the fella can behave or not. Likes to eat grass so much!
Yeah, with proper guidance and trainning from Groovemaster.. anything will work! Just make sure at the moment Tyrel undestands basic OB, like sit, stay etc. Another important thing is to find out the drive for ur dog, it could be treats or toy.. up to ur dog.  rclxm9.gif
*
Where's Tmn Desa? give me the add...hey, Tyrel like to eat grass too.....Jen, i'm getting a female Cavalier King Charles from Mary in Feb....no more pug or Basset Hound....i'll get another JRT female when i bought my landed property next year...scouting for a good neighbourhood somewhere in cheras with reasonable big garden...preferable end lot..and not more than RM500k, u have anything to recomend?

doh.gif ops! making this forum like a property post already...lol whistling.gif

Not necessary to poo poo worms.. if poo worms means problem liao r! Anyway, if u feed him heartguard once a month (6 months per pack) it contains deworm medicine inside. So u get protection from heartworm and deworm as well. Anyway, Shadow is getting better from skin problems, hopes he heal b4 CNY.  tongue.gif
*
I do put Heartguard for my boy, but it;s an injection type every six months. and deworming my boy once a month...today is the due date for my boy to meet up with the Vet again for medical check up...i think i'll do it this saturday....i dont really think the deworming pill works at all ( the one i gave to my boy and bought from the pet shop..) should ask Dr Voon later this saturday....

Jen, is your vet is dr voon as well?

QUOTE(Jenn77 @ Jan 1 2007, 12:58 PM)
In this case issit better if we buy those of the shelf deworm pills from the petshops? Actually heartguard is recommended by most vets, my current rented house got alot of mosquito, small one that fly fast! I worry that it really attack Shadow, so I gave em Heartgard. Works or not Im not sure becoz many have said Heartgard is not necessary  rclxub.gif Anyway, any recommendation for deworm pills Nairud? Will get some for my pair of Labs too.  rclxms.gif

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL THE JRT's & DOGLOVERS!   rclxm9.gif  cool2.gif
