thinking of putting Dookie up for the agility class, fore going the ob. That fella dont like leash and will not walk. lol...
*

4 pups, cn try out some puppy agility ie. very low jumps n low contacts just 2 build deir confidence n get dem used 2 d obstacles. Serious training will only begin ven closer to 1 yo.

U'll still need some OB 2 get him 2 focus on u n d obstacles on hand. D only time u cn forego OB is if ur dog is really hooked on a toy, so much so dat he'll do anything 4 it or dog sticks 2 u like glue.

Given d right training, a fairly active n healthy dog will hv no problems performing d obstacles on leash. It's d transition 2 off leash runs dats much more demanding.

Cn drop by at Subang anytime 2 hv a look c, Sat 8am n Sun 5.30pm.

no no, i mean this fella wouldn't even move a bit if i tug the leash. he must walk his own and not being led. headache  rclxub.gif  But as expected their kind is stubborn
*
wink.gif Well if he likes 2 run n follows u fairly close, den agility is a real option.

Yah groovy also didnt fancy d leash so v used a harness ven he was a pup. Tried some OB leash training on him but didnt really work coz he'll pull as hard as u. Good thing v decided 2 do play n tricks training, got him focused n hooked on balls. Took on agility n after dat, OB came naturally. whistling.gif

Really depends on d dog. Sometimes too much leash work may dampen deir spirit n ven dey loose dat drive, its very hard 2 get going again for agility or any dog sport.

will take a look at their OB training. This fella is a blardy pain at the back training him. the most stubborn dog i had in my live. laugh.gif
*

Basic OB cn b done on ur own if u wish. If he follows u fairly well, den cn try out some puppy agility.

Sounds like a true blue JRT. drool.gif

Fawn, found a way to teach them, furkids, how to turn from the springbox itself smile.gif
*

cool.gif Hey, nice idea n may work. Problem is Shirley's flyball box only hs 1 hole in d middle 2 dispense d ball. Box in d video hs 2 holes at d side, hence is more conducive 4 d swimmer's turn. Still, v cn try it out.

On d subject of flyball, Piper seemed pretty keen on it drool.gif (comes naturally 4 ball addicts) n u shld consider taking up d sport. WIth practice, she may make it in d PetnU Dog Sports Demo Squad. At d mo, hv only seen 4 dogs doing flyball.

Home training tips 4 flyball.

Saw dis on tv ... cn also train at home by using a cardboard box cover with a hole (size of tennis ball) in d middle. Teach dog 2 investigate hole by luring dog with treats from behind. Toss treats thru d hole 2 teach him 2 catch. Once he gets d idea, replace treats with ball.

After awhile, he shld b ready 4 d flyball box. If u dog is a ball addict, u cn choose 2 skip all of d above n go straight 4 d box.

Add 2-3 low jumps n u r all set. flex.gif

I have develop a few ideas on how to burn out those extra enegry from my jrt. Many thanks again. I looking forward for my 1st jrt.  thumbup.gif  biggrin.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif

Cn also try teaching tricks coz JRTs r really keen on dat rather den OB. Anything involving activity is good, anything involving 'sit stay, stand stay, down stay' will b torturous. Of course, u'll get d occasional odd ball like Piper who actually competes in longest stay events n win, at times. whistling.gif

Dog sports like agility n flyball r also cool ideas for keeping ur JRT occupied n well exercised. cool.gif

sleeping in the crate...that's very crucial if we wanna take him along for a domestic travel.
*

Crate training is essential for transporting large dogs in cars. For small dogs, only necessary if u r intending to fly on a plane.

If travelling by car, small dogs cn also b taught 2 behave n lie on d seat or floor of d car.

Some crate training is good if u intend to board your dog.

Like nairud, v advocate full freedom n run of d house ... d natural lifestyle for JRTs. Of course, if u own a farm, even better. rclxm9.gif

Any pics 2 share of ur new pup? cool.gif

Hey, nice pics of Tyrel. How old is he n how active is he on a scale of 1 - 10?

On d food matter, JRTs cn b quite fussy with deir food n u may hv 2 experiment with different brands n flavours 2 get d right mix. Some prefer a mix of wet n dry. cool.gif

If he can do dat at 3 mths old, he'll b a real star. Good to start teaching tricks from young. Will come in handy ven he grows up. icon_idea.gif

QUOTE(spcx @ Sep 20 2006, 01:40 PM)
1. Stop snapping our hands whenever we touch him, probably it's his nature of playing? Also stop his habit of snapping people's ears when they lie on the sofas!
2. Stop eating his own poo poo!!!!!!!!!
3. I still have doubts to bring him out for a walk without a leash, I stilll remember once when I brought him out, a car passed by and he tried to chase the car! If he wasn't on leash, god knows what would happen.
*

1. Best 2 discourage dis habit from d start, if not he'll hv problems playing with kids later on n his off leash activities will b restricted. 'Nope' n a light rap on jaw will do d job, but correction must b immediate n consistent. blush.gif

2. Eating poo, he'll grow out of it. whistling.gif

3. Off leash walks not recommended unless area/ field is safe n hs extremely light traffic. Even den, there's always a risk coz JRTs will usually chase any fast moving furry object eg. cats, squirrels. So a reliable recall is a must.

Otherwise, stick to fenced or barricaded fields to play off leash. cool.gif

Yup, funny forum dat ... practices selective censorship n dun really encourage other dog events except deir own. blink.gif

Here is more liberal n supportive of dog events. icon_rolleyes.gif

If u r going to BU park dis Sun at 1 pm, may not b many people or dogs left except d die hards, people like us n groovy. So hope to c u there. cool.gif
