tongue.gif I felt that M'sians like to show off their dogs rather than to keep them as companion. Some really dressed up their dog like clowns. Issit necessary? Another thing is I found out my neighbour would put a collar with bell on his JRT. I know that dog's ears are very sensitive, so the collar with bell is really iratating to the JRT's ears, rite?  sweat.gif
*

Yup some people luv dressing up n fussing with deir dogs, nothing wrong with dat as long as dey dun go overboard. Dats why toy n lap dogs r popular here n there's always a Beauty Contest at any dog event. Not my idea of fun coz dun really showcase a dog's natural talents. Who's gonna take dogs seriously if v continue 2 dress dem up like dat? shakehead.gif No wonder people say dat dogs can only look cute, pee, poo n bark ... always negative publicity.

As 2 keeping JRTs at home, d transport crate is way too small. Cage, try 2 get d biggest possible. Or u can get a play pen or barricade an area (eg. kitchen) with a child safety gate, much more space but d JRT may soon learn 2 jump over it as he gets older. Ven a pup, tried putting groovy in a cage n he hated it. Den v tried 2 keeping him in d kitchen area but he soon learn 2 jump over d child's gate. So v let him hv hv access 2 d lounge, detroyed 1 couch but has settled down nicely after 1yo n hs left d furniture alone since.

U cn try keeping ur pup in a large cage or play pen till he's older, reliable n more settled. Den its ideal 2 gv him access to more space eg. lounge, kitchen n back yard. He'll thank u 4 dat. icon_rolleyes.gif

got nice got not nice ler
order JRT but it comes Parsen jack russell =.="
so tall, that 1 we just keep it only no breed
long leg looks weird
but sometimes puppy will appear some long leg 1 although their parents short

Groovy, 'Hey wat do u mean weird? I'm a PRT with long legs n most peoply like me like dat. Cn run really fast n agile summo, ha ha.' rclxm9.gif

Cn understand dat most people here like d shorter leg English JRT coz look cute. Also dey arent too familiar with d PRT breed, very rare in dis country. But if u r looking 4 an active, sporty n agile small breed, den PRTs r hard 2 beat. cool.gif

Well Im doing it the other way round. might cage my puppy JRT and le loose the 2 maniacs. Btw, met groovemaster, was impressed.  rclxms.gif

icon_rolleyes.gif Nice 2 meet u as well. Shld try catching us during playtime coz dats ven JRTs r at deir element. Dat training place dun really encourage off leash dogs (which is fair enuf), but groovy is 1 of d very few dat runs n plays off leash there.

JRTs r well known 4 same sex agression, so better read up n b well prepared if u hv 2 or more dogs at home. Like I've said, male JRTs wun shy away from d 'Top Dog' routine ven placed with other male breeds, no matter d size.

Another thing, after watching ur clips, groovy is so agile and speedy, I was wandering the JRT with shorter legs, does it perform the same?  sweat.gif
*

Activity level is d same. Just watch dese short legged JRTs at d races ... flex.gif http://events.purina.com/dogs/events/index.aspx?medialist_12. Am sure dat Piper can do just as well if v only had similar activities in dis region.

Really depends on how u bring up ur dog. If u encourage him 2 run in open spaces, jump over drains n climb over playground equipt, den naturally he'll b more agile n swift.

Coz of d lack of dog sports, activities n open spaces 2 run in dis country, I wldnt recommend a dog like groovy which is hyperactive drool.gif . Unless u intend 2 take part in dog sports or include him in most of ur outdoor activities or hv a big garden. As it is 2 pairs of hands is required 2 keep him occupied n well exercised.

So a less hyper JRT suits most owners here, less hyper is good...dey can still perform all d activities n tricks if trained properly.

Btw, read somewhere dat d smooth coats shed d most.

Hard 2 tell during d pup stage but seems like a short legged smooth coat JRT. Very nice markings.

whats the best time to get a JRT pup, a month old? And issit visible of their height?  sweat.gif

Pup shld stay with mum till at least 2 mths old. Between 2-4 mths is ven d pup is most impressionable n will learn good/ bad habits. So between 2-3 mths old is a good time 2 bring d pup home. Height shld b visible by 3 mths. wink.gif

Didnt make any noise, how about JRT pupps? For toilet train and basic stuffs, we should train them at this age? I mean 2 to 3 months. Honestly, my labs are not very discipline.  blush.gif

JRT pups can b fairly yappy if u allow dem 2 run d household drool.gif . So make sure u draw d line somewhere.

Yes, training shld start as soon as possible, especially toilet training n basic commands. Getting d pup used 2 all sorts of environments, noise, people n friendly dogs will b a definite advantage n make 4 a well socialised dog. Training dun hv 2 just based on formal OB. Personally prefer play training instead...definitely more interesting n fun 4 d pup. icon_rolleyes.gif

Actually v do play training coz he dun really enjoy OB training blush.gif . JRTs especially arent too keen on OB training. Basically, d idea is 2 get ur dog hooked on2 play (not to difficult) with a specific toy/treat (difficult 4 some dogs) so much so dat he'll look 2 u regularly as d provider of good things n fun. rclxm9.gif If u cn do dat, ur dog will bcom more focused n attentive 2 u.

Those are still in pup stage? >.< How big they'll grow into? Because that's the size of an adult JRT I'm looking for, small and short legged with smooth coat. hehe. you guys know any breeders?

U cn catch a few adult JRTs in page 6 of dis thread. All dogs look cute ven dey r pups, but dey grow up pretty fast n d cuteness may soon fade away. So b very sure of wat u r looking 4 in a dog, cute alone isnt a good reason 4 getting a dog. whistling.gif

Short legged JRTs can grow up to anything between 10"-14" at d withers.

Nairud's JRT, Piper, just hd a litter so u may wanna check dem out in 2 mths time. rclxm9.gif

at what length should the tail be docked? Terrier.com states that cut off only 1/3 of the length but i think it's kinda long.

Pup size dunno lah. Ven adult, tail shld ideally bout 4 inches just enuf 4 owner 2 grab hold off n pull out from underground tunnels ... shld JRT bcom stuck underneath d earth whilst hunting 4 prey. shakehead.gif

Fawn, how do you make groovy like water? i wanna make the pups to like water. maybe i shouldn't bathe them until they're 2 months old. just normal wipe only.

Think most dogs dun like 2 take a bath but ven it comes 2 playing with water, dey dun mind so much. Didnt teach him anything ... after a good run, he'll naturally look 4 d coolest part of d field which is normally d wet n muddy area. Much like d other time ven Groovy, Piper n Benni were playing at Subang training school n den dey just lie in d water patches 2 cool down.

rclxm9.gif Or mayb its just a JRT thing coz hv seen other JRTs doing it but not so much 4 other breeds.

Sure u wanna teach dem 2 like water ... coz with water comes mud, n muddy dogs mean frequent baths. whistling.gif

Oh ya, he does get very excited ven going 4 car rides in d rain n d car goes over some wet patches n splashes. Also gets bit excited ven at d beach n upon seeing d waves coming in n retreating. rclxm9.gif D rolling in d mud thing, hv only seen JRTs doing it. whistling.gif

doesnt really look like a JRT, mainly because of the almond shaped eyes, elongated / sharp snout and comes with alot of tiny brown sport all over her body.

Almond shape eyes r a JRT trait. wink.gif

U got hyper rite. Obedient ... blush.gif err not always, depends on how much u put in n how u train ur JRT. Truth b told, JRTs r seldom obedient. But very playful, so if u cn harness all dat energy 2 work 4 u, den may seem like an obedient dog ... but in actual fact dey just cant wait 4 play 2 start. rclxm9.gif
