Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie and was looking forward to get a JRT pup soon.
I hope everyone here can give me some advice on how to take care of JRT. smile.gif

I never had a pet before and dreaming of getting one since young. I stayed in a terrace house with medium-size garden, a lot of antiques stuff inside the house tho sad.gif

Nice to meet you all.

Ahhh... Go to this website --> www.therealjackrussell.com for info.

They are really active creatures. Mine likes to do laps around the garden for no apparent reason, jumping from 1 chair to another.

You'll need a firm hand in training. They're really smart dogs but you must constantly remind them that you are the ALPHA dog. They tend to challenge you at any moment. hmm.gif

Give your dog lots of exercise but of course, gauge your dog's energy level. My other JRT is less active and so, easier to train and hence, doesn't run around that much. icon_rolleyes.gif

They are a great companion and tend to be quite yappy, i.e. bark a lot. They make great watch dogs too. ;-)

Anyway, the main thing with any breed or dog is to do your research... Prepare your house for the puppy and all should be well.

That depends.... tongue.gif If it's a dominant dog, sure enough it's going to be fierce to protect its territory. Or, if you threaten it.. It's going to be fierce..

Some JRTs can be quite possessive and will not share their favourite human with other people or dogs. biggrin.gif

Anyway, most JRTs are quite friendly. Just like any other dog or animal, if you're mean to it, they're going to be fierce.

Hi aragorn2976,

Thanks for the advice. Appreciated it. I visited a few pet shops today but unfortunately no luck of getting a jrt yet. None of them selling jrt in Penang at this moment.

Will try to get the Penang breeders contact number. I saw a few jrt up for sale in KL but I scared the pet will get tired and traumatized during the long journey home to Penang.

Yeah. Just have to make sure that your dog won't get car sick. My dogs love the long rides. They feel the rocking motion of the car and terus go ZZZzzzZZZZZZ.... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Anyway, good luck with your search!
