QUOTE(fat cat @ Sep 28 2012, 09:26 AM) only the new 6XX nvidia series offers boost clock. basically it works like intels own turbo boost. in that it will overclock the cpu (gpu in this case) automatically when needed. Gpu clock is the stock speed that the card will alwys run at so overclocking that may give you overall better performance as im not sure how gpu boost works and how reliable it is. Overclocking gpu boost will just set the card to go faster under intense use. But that again is unclear and how stable it is. Generally overclocking the gpu boost on already factory overclocked cards is a bad idea. Hence why the asus 670 top edition had so much stability issues because it was overclocked to 1137 but in fact the boost speed put it somewhere at 1280 mhz lol. thats a huge difference. Thank you for the explanation bro. GPU clock is the same as core clock right? So usually, people overclock GPU clock? For these 3 models, MSI N680GTX lightning, MSI N680GTX TwinForzr, MSI N680GTX-PM2D2GD5. All three models have different gpu clock, and gpu boost clock. But why all memory clock are the same which is 6008Mhz. Is 6008mhz overclocked already? tq

QUOTE(Ulysses @ Sep 29 2012, 10:34 AM) whats wrong with DC II 670 ? i dont get this joke. I've been following this thread and I was on the same boat with you before this, then I read few pages back then I got it. Some 680 users are butthurt at those 670s out there, especially the MSI GTX 670 Power Edition OC. I did some research and I found this Test system QUOTE Mainboard
MSI Big Bang XPower X58
Processor
Core i7 965 Extreme @ 3750 MHz 4 cores - 8 threads
Graphics Card
GeForce GTX 680 (Gigabyte OC)
Memory
6144 MB (3x 2048 MB) DDR3 Corsair @ 1500 MHz
Power Supply Unit
1200 Watt
Monitor
Dell 3007WFP - up to 2560x1600 The prices different between those cards are about RM400 for few fps only. Also I've seen many people say that the gigabyte RMA is not that good.

QUOTE(mrkenn @ Sep 28 2012, 01:11 AM) Guys. When OC-ing gpu, what do u guys usually OC. Gpu clock(Is this the same as core clock?), Boost clock(Why only certain models have boost clock?), memory clock? Why some factory overclocked cards only oc gpu clock, certain models only oc boost clock. Confused Anyone can explain? tq OCing usually with the higher performance boost is the Core clock (or the boost clock, which also increase for Nvidia GTX 660 and above series) Core clock (or GPU Clock) is something like how fast can an artist draws something, while the Memory clock is like how fast the information is passed. So vendors like MSI ASUS usually only OC the GPU Core cause in high end GPUs memory clocks barely increase FPS unless you are gaming in 1080 and above since the memory in those cards are so damn fast...hope this helped you This post has been edited by devillightning1: Sep 29 2012, 12:50 PM
