QUOTE(babybobby @ Nov 22 2014, 06:59 PM) wow, that's a really positive attitude in arts. what kinda drawing media you prefer? u do both manual and digital? Haha, some artists don't like my approach, because I think discipline > "inspiration". If I only paint when I'm "inspired", I'll never get anything done. Primarily digital. Traditional painting is just...messy and oil painting takes forever to dry. --------------- WIP of a barbarian portrait:

That's actually a great approach, discipline. By the way, how about discussion about sketching strokes. https://www.facebook.com/kr0npr1nz/photos/a...?type=1&theaterHow do u guys do your strokes? I always find my sketches very messy because my strokes are fast and short, and I add a lot more lines when I do mistakes, maybe I need to change my habit, I wonder how these guys sketch look really good, alot of practice or just talent? https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=374...&type=1&theaterThis post has been edited by seba: Nov 23 2014, 09:14 PM

Eh, most pro artists consider "sketches" to be "stuff that I don't consider finished"
They still might have messy during the base+construction stage.
Although, for "form" sketching (i.e. lineart sketching), one usually tries to be as precise as possible with each line, since the goal is to practice catching the forms/lines of a figure.
Contrast with value sketching, which is to practice capturing the values of an image, and may look a lot messier.
Most of these looks like a result of practice, because their hand-to-eye coordination has to be precise to get that level of "clean" in their lines.

Yeah, like those who held fans meet, then draw for them live on TV. All in permanent marker and most in single stroke. I was like wtf, draw just like it was nothing.

Thats what intriguing me, some people sketch so decently, they use slow and steady strokes and it looks so good, I think this is where all the practices make a difference, or talent.
Just like Kim Junggi, if u watch his live drawing, mistakes are almost non existent, he just let his pen dance, I wonder how he can even do that? Did he just pre-estimate the sketch on his mind and map it on the canvas. It is done so effortlessly, the details too.

Or they've been used to it, after drawing thousands of artwork in their lifetime, like most mangaka. All the top mangaka I saw can do it, like Tite Kubo and Masashi Kishimoto. They even used Kuricolor to color their drawing live. Guess I'll never be the same level as them.

Not sure about other ppl, but i find doing creative stuff (drawing, painting, 3d etc) enjoyable. Less discipline are needed in my case, since i really enjoy doing them
