if given a choice, FR0 vs ksyrium SL. which one and why?
*
for me personally.. i always think of 2 problems which is availability and support (and because 1 consistently happens to all my wheels... so, i a bit paranoid)

FR0... 2 reasons... more accessible via my bike shop (price factor and also repair support)... and i dun need to worry because the bike shop i frequent more has parts for it... especially spokes... even the replacement ceramic bearings are murderous in price.. i think RM300++... for 1 wheel i think.,..

unless you are darn close to boon foo or KH cycle... i think Mavic can be a preferred choice.. either one won't be wrong...

no side considerations... Ksyrium SL (despite without ceramic bearings) i would say is more or less on par with FR0...

and Ksyrium Elite will definitely win over FR0 in terms of value for money despite not having ceramic bearings... it's the definitive do it all wheel...

if you put the choice as pure performance Ksyrium SR... Ksyrium SR wins hand down without considering side factors... i heard it is shit stiff in terms of power transfer... much more than the FR0... but i have never ridden or seen one in KL before.. before reaching that price level.. i guess most had gone to Cosmic Carbone...

ok thanks! ksyrium SR?? the fat round spokes! why????
*
because they will self implode like the r-sys... and then you can sue mavic for it...

i trust that Tracomp technology has been massively improved by now... and in theory it should make for a stiff wheel despite the carbon spokes being placed on the non-drive side...can't understand the logic as well..

it's not a why really.. rather a why not if you have the money to spend... and it's cheaper than the Ksyrium SLR by a big margin as far as i understand...

Dang woke up at 5 to ride in wee hours oh morning. Damn, gonna expect no ppl but the whole road is full of cyclist and construction workers. Mind you the temp was about 6/7 degrees.

Is the frame consider stiff if i can feel vibration from all kind of road condtion the bike ride on (in a way not comfy)? What define stiff as in lateral stiffness? How do i feel it?

Tweak the front brake to align it toward the braking track, now the brake zap the speed much better. Is normal that the rear brake is much more mushy compared to the huge stopping power of front brake?

*Gotta woke up at 3 am to cycle at my fav area less automobile traffic.  biggrin.gif
*
stiffness has nothing to do with road resonance... stiff is when you stand on the pedals while you pull on the opposite side of the handlebar and feel that there is no torsional flex between the front end of your bike and the rear... that is an example of stiff...

in carbon bikes... stiff does not necessarily mean that it will be massively unforgiving... that is why through development and proper carbon layup methods... they can still achieve compliancy where it matters in a stiff carbon frame..

*
jus plain water will do...if you can take cold even better... cold water gets absorbed quicker..1 hour is just not long enough a sustained effort to require immediate replenishment of what you body needs...

the other reason is just in case you want to douse yourself on a hot day... you can do so with plain water... else, you will end up sticky and stuff...

jus replenish with sodium + carbo + sugar post ride...

QUOTE(stimix @ Aug 7 2012, 08:39 PM)
Darn.. pedalspot telling me Fulcrum R3 better than Kysrium now... He said got momentum not like mavic...

Mini-mini mini more.. I think I choose Dura-ace 2nd hand much better liao
*
of course la... because they sell fulcrum ma... you go to kh cycle... i bet they even tell you ksyrium elite is better than Fulcrum R0...

it is totally down to who you trust at the end of the day... if you can sneak a ride on a friends bike having those wheels to get a quick feel... even better...

the only reason like i mention to take fulcrum for myself is because i know that i will have backing in case my wheel goes kaput... not for any value or performance reasons... for you... the factors might be varyingly different...

QUOTE(yuanyi @ Aug 7 2012, 10:12 PM)
Dear sifu. Which is a better among this 3?? Fulcrum racing quattro, 5 or 7?? For  first time wheelset upgrade??
*
depends on what you want... do you want low profile or slightly aero wheels?

Racing 5 and 7 are low profile wheels with only 24mm rim height, considered a different lineup to the quattro... while the racing quattro is fulcrum's try at alloy aero clinchers...and they are 35mm in height which is very hard to produce rims of such height and quite unheard off..

looking at on the sheet performance (i haven't ridden the quattros yet, but i owned before a set of 1st gen R7s) it could possibly be a stiffer wheel than either R5 or R7 due to bulkier rim...and at 1700 grams.. they are surprisingly lighter than the R5 too...

Quattros have 4 spokes less on the front wheel than the R5 and similar 21 spokes at the rear... this part baffles me as i am not sure how they saved the weight using a rim with more mass... i didn't really taken note to see if the quattro is using exactly the same hub as R5... but it does give some features like anti spoke rotation which is not on the R5 but the higher end model R3 2-way fit....

aesthetically.. i think the quattro is much fancier as well as you can clearly see the branding more with a taller rim... and the white "fulcrum" lettering looks good when the wheel is spinning... i am a sucker for spinning white letterings...

price wise.. i think the quattro is roughly around the range of R5 pricing at RM1.1k... the R7 is around RM700.. which is cheaper, but also a heavier set of wheels...

i guess your choice if you can afford is either the R5 or quattro.. and the R5 being a more expensive model if i am not wrong despite the quattro looking to beat it on paper... this in effect makes the quattro quite a worthy purchase....

the true believers will say that fulcrum will not roll better as it uses the cartridge type cup-and-cone system... they believe the one that rolls faster is the older shimano loose ball type cup-and-cone system... whether true or not... no scientific evidence...

one thing for sure is faster with the fulcrum one is .... servicing time... jus dig old one out, take new one... aim and wham it in and you are done... shimano ones you will end up spending the time chasing each ball all over the bike shop (if you are not careful and there is a wild ball on the loose, they are loose wat)....

regarding rim replacements... i am gonna part zip (pardon the pun) my lip on this...

i believe there is replacement rims for fulcrum wheels...it's just an evil ploy that the bike shops don't want to bring them in cause it does not benefit them...

you've raised a very darn good point with this one especially in the long run...
