Ooo cool!. It is not in a discount price. There will be a 5% discount for member though.  nod.gif  Well I think the BBS owner should revise his price since currently the market has mark down the price.
*
generally.. i think rodalink does not apply the member discount to bikes.. but they do take some percentage off the MSRP price tags... the tags are just for show purpose...

you think so? put yourself in his shoes and think whether if you would want to lose a couple hundred more because of a price drop from the manufacturer on new bike... he might hang on to it if he is not in a hurry to sell it off..

it's like you have a fairly new car you want to sell off and AFTA suddenly kicked into effect sending all new car prices crashing down and practically killing the second hand price of the car you trying to pawn off... bad news...

that SRAM wheel is not a zipp wheel.. it might have the old hybrid toroidal shape... but it is not in any way made by Zipp as far as i looked up.. not even the hub and definitely not using the smooth rolling zipp swiss stainless steel bearings...

ride more and you will sooner or later get the hang of it... as i say... no one falls forever learning to walk.. you are bound to learn it from experience...

Btw, during the photoshoot i notice the top tube was slightly dinged perhaps due to my previous 2 crashed. Is it okay? I cant imagine i am on carbon bike for my previous 2 crash, sure the frame will be cracked. blink.gif
*
a ding is no worry... a major dent would be somewhat catastrophic sometime down the road if not worrying... that is the benefits of an alloy frame smile.gif

at least, it lets you ride home still while mostly a carbon frame in a big shunt would have left you stranded on the road..

QUOTE(shienchin @ Aug 4 2012, 10:32 PM)
I don't know man. The Rodalink dealer told me that they can give me discount only if member. And that's what they said. I am not quite sure.

Well.. It is his luck then. It is just my thought though not really advising him to lower down the price to half or something. I had experience situation like this as market price of the product got marked down. During that time of my situation, I am kinda forced to lower more. Well, if he can wait, why not.  smile.gif

Not really into F300. Now I am waiting for Saturday to meet the owner of the F100.  tongue.gif
*
i think there are things they can't say on the phone... once you are there... i think they will mark it down a bit more with or without member discount.. the member card is a very easy to get thing... i got mine jus by purchasing some minor things... no less than RM300...

QUOTE(mrjgx @ Aug 4 2012, 10:35 PM)
Haha I know the feelings...when I was wheel hunting few months back..luckily didn't forked out rm6k for a zipp 303 or 404...I just want that wheels for the looks..performance wise..better choose the tubular 303 which is sub 1300g...
Anyway just enjoy your ride bro..but you have to be consistent. Eventually your body adapts..and you become faster without any bike upgrades tongue.gif
*
like vin_ann says... when racun kicks in... there is no logic or rational behind the action... the only thing can be done is pray hard the racun is not the most powerful kind tongue.gif

(usually will know if you kena racun or not 5-10 seconds after the credit card transaction goes through, kena kicked back into reality and realizing you did something stupid)

yeah... dun go into bike geekdom... it's a very torturous place to be in... jus ride and have fun...

HWOAHhhh...vin_ann got some moderator friends... better shut my trap before kena permaban blink.gif

dropping an alu frame below 8 kilos might be a though thing to do unless you are mortal enemies with your wallet... wats the weight of your rig now? a good set of wheels like the FR0 might see a 400 gram drop at max from your aksium race.. and that is a RM3k investment easy..

carbonize your cockpit and maybe shave another 300+ grams away.. but another RM2k thinner on your wallet..

at the end of the day... you'll be better off selling yours and getting vin_ann's nobita bullying aluminum giant that is already around 8kilos in stock form and with 105 groupie... or some fancy carbon bike...

WAT!!!! 10~15 years junior...

don't put your hopes so high about weight reduction...

i'll go with the wheels even if it costs more compared to a carbon cockpit.. at least you get improved spin up rate on wheel weight reduction and get punchier accelerations if you are that kind of rider..

for a more budget play...i guess the shimano C24s are a considerable option.. there are quite a number of those "questionable' C24s in BBS selling for less than RM2k.. some even around RM1.5k and they weigh as much as the FR0s...support for replacement spokes might be limited though...

think those are the 2011 wheels.. the new range of 2012 products have dropped below 1500 grams.... but they also dropped the scandium rim option and stuck with carbon laminated rims.. have yet to see anyone selling them in malaysia yet..

one critical point to note for the shimano wheels is your weight... although never stating a rider weight limit... i think it is best not to attempt riding them if you weigh pass 80kilos... a gentle rider of 80-85 kilos is kinda borderline and if you are a brutish rider...the wheel might not live for very long before starting to break it's spokes which is hard to come by in the first place...

seen a couple of chunky dudes breaking the spokes cleanly of the hub.. not sure if it is a nipple or spoke durability problem.. but their straight pull design have had a lot of complaints over the years and they are quite lacking in spoke count front and rear to be convincingly durable....

haha.. not everyone is rich like you ma.. FR0 almost RM3k ooohhh... although the C24 in full retail is also close to the same price.. but the "questionable" ones in BBS is a full RM1k cheaper... if you don't mind the lacking in support....

you have to remember, almost "virgin" does not = "virgin"... i guess.. best part of RM300 to RM400 if you are lucky.. a new FR7 costs like RM700 nowadays?

you do have to remember this are OEM wheels... not actual fulcrum ones although made by fulcrum...

Noob question.. Google FRO also dun have. what brand is that?? arrgggg

haha.... sorry... our lousy acronyms... FR0 (zero) is for Fulcrum (brand) Racing Zero (model)

here's the link.. of course, there are many other wheels out there in the wild... but at least... there are 2 rich kids here owning this set of wheels which you can ask for opinions...

One stupid question here: is it difficult to find and repair Polygon F300 parts in touring around places? Compare to F100?
*
looking from both bike specs... both have conventional spoked wheels.. so, replacing the j-turn spokes shouldn't be a problem in case of spoke breakages... tubes and tires are very normal 700c variants... chain should be a very standard item in most bike shops (even the remote ones) as it is still 8 & 9 speeds...

in the case if you crash and kill the drivetrain... shimano derailleurs is compatible across the MTB range of the older generation... so, it shouldn't be a problem as well... bottom brackets are quite standard item external cups i guess...

so, it shouldn't be that big a worry between either... the biggest worry is always tires and wheels as that usually takes a beating... wheels less of a chance unless you crash into some epic potholes... worst case is to re-lace the wheel with a new rim or replace broken spokes... if you have some fancy straight pull or high profile wheelsets... then, you are possibly stuffed...

*
yeah... i was going to say FR1 (sked offend mr.jgx tongue.gif ) as well cause the FR0 does not offer much difference except for a lighter carbon hub shell and the use of USB ceramic bearings... the problem is that the price difference is not that huge... only around RM300-RM400 if i am not wrong...

the new FR3 (this years model) is also definitely not a bad choice from the view of weight alone... but you sacrifice certain things like stiffness of the FR1 and FR0.. and this is something which you can really feel if you are a pedal stomper...

i think even FR3 is not by any means cheap... around RM1.7k to RM1.8k...

tat chyu89's avatar looks sick... you not sked he turn you into human centipede ah... somemore you go far far see him... you missing also no one suspek..

serious shit mode, ON!!!...

Mavic Ksyrium.. especially the elite has been the benchmark for as long as possible.... the Ksyrium line i think has been around for the best part of 8 or 9 years through several iterations...

Elite is the best value for money as it has some very aggressively milled rims and some of the features that are not on the equippe...weight is not the lightest possible... but not too bad...

on the SL you gain aluminum spokes with quite a bit more $ and the SR part carbon spokes with aluminum nipples and more fancy hub...

not bad a set of wheels... and ample support with providing bike pro and khcycle still carries the mavic brand...

Ic... Today I went to rodalink and the guy told me that f300 is not suitable for touring mainly due to the wheel which is thin like a road bike. He suggested me heist 1.0 with no suspension fork. What do u think? Any other brand of bike I can find hybrid with no suspension and wheel thickness between MTb and road?
*
frankly, there are different camps of touring riders... some prefer MTB based hybrids and some road based hybrids... and none of them is 100% right...

in the real world.. there is no perfect bike and it totally depends on what or where you are riding to...

a road 700c wheel can be changed with a slightly wider 700 x 28c or 700 x 32c or even cyclo cross tyres to make it able to handle some rougher roads and more resilient to punctures... but that does not make the entire wheel structure stronger...

for example, if you are riding to places like altiplano in bolivia... no way, you are going to make it in a road based hybrid.. simply for 2 reasons... rough road conditions and endless uphills that will demand a gear so small a 25T cog will seem too heavy...
user posted image
user posted image

on the other hand.. if you plan to cycle tour to penang... it should be ok to ride a road based hybrid since most of the way will be paved roads...

in actual fact... an MTB is much more tougher than a road hybrid making it able to carry on heavy loads especially when you are gone for months...but MTB is also much heavier than a road hybrid making it very tough especially when the road heads up...

an MTB would also be easier to repair as MTB is kind of much more common nowadays...

if you look at examples like the velomads who had been on the road for several years trying to tour the entire globe... you'll see that they use MTBs but with some road parts like drop bars and such... primarily for reasons that they don't know what they will be facing on the road...they need a rough and rugged bike capable of handling everything...
user posted image
user posted image

it really depends on what you think... look at the long term... not short... this will be something you need to weigh yourself... are you a dedicated touring rider who will be away for months to ride cross continents... or jus a weekend away riding to some other states and back?

you might need to think of the percentage of time you spend touring vs casual riding since i assume you won't be getting 2 bikes for separate purposes...because you might want to convert your touring bike into your daily or weekend rider or vice versa and you don't want to regret getting the wrong bike for the long term.. some compromises have to be made in one way or another....

pain is a part of the game...

QUOTE(shienchin @ Aug 6 2012, 07:29 PM)
Thanks for more enlightenment. He also mentioned that thin wheels for road bike compare to MTb is easier to percha in very long distance. Is this correct or not?
*
in terms of puncture on road slicks... that is a given as 700c road slicks have thinner rubber and also a thinner kevlar casing... unless you are running knobbies... MTB road slicks are susceptible to punctures as well.. it just depends on what debris you hit...

as i mentioned, MTB will always be made tougher but at the expense of heavier weight which in turn require more effort to move the bike along..

wah.. wat gym open at 5.45am ohh? got special happy hour service one is it...

my RM2 more sound solution.. open freehub, dig out all grease... throw sand in.. guarantee sound so damn garang you will jump off your bike...

no offense, but... it's crazy to buy sound with $$$ i like the days of shimano's silent clutch hubs (and we had to pay more for silent clutch hubs)... those were the fad back then... no sound = serenity... enjoy scenery and shit.. nowadays... all things terbalik adi... WTF world???

some annoyances (to me at least)

in order of price...

fulcrum

CK R45

the rest of the giler expensive hubs... tune, extralite and so on...

Added on August 7, 2012, 10:37 amactually... the analogy of the sound is not intentionally made... but rather depending on the amount of pawls and engagement points...

for example.. the conventional hubs have around 24 engagement points with 3 pawls... zipp and DT i think has something like 36 engagement points... chris king around 72 points simultaneous engagement with their proprietary ring drive... industry nine has 120 points but 9 point simultaneous engagement...

all this makes for some crazy sound at the expense of a thinning wallet...

oh yea.. i9 sound..

from their road range...

Any ideal condo for Cyclist with budget around RM400k? off course the square feet need to be at least 931sq ft, my old place.

i thinks my new place is much smaller with 800sq ft i guess...
