Added on November 14, 2012, 10:32 am QUOTE(mrjgx @ Nov 14 2012, 01:26 AM) Hurm interesting. But then I also have the same feeling. Aero wheels is definitely for aero kinda ride. Slicing through the wind? Maybe. Perhaps I might feel it when I already buy the 404. As for now I could only imagine how it feels like and to trust my trusty FR0 save the money from upgrades and you can have an even dreamier bike when you are back...Bike stuff here in Dubai are pretty expensive. GH specialized bikes are selling almost rm5k cheaper for the 2012 venge sworks model. Got a plenty of top end bikes shop scattered around the town, and the cycling community here is pretty active. So my plan of bringing my bike over here seems like a good choice. A wheel upgrade and groupset is all that needed and I can have my dream bike once I'm back in Malaysia Any idea wether HED wheels is superior to zipp or the latter is the definite choice of the pros peloton nowadays? for the lack of illustration... you'll be upgraded from a george clooney ![]() to a mcdreamy ![]() comparing HED with Zipp or even the Paul Lew designed Reynolds or Simon Smart Enve wheels is like comparing Fuji apples to Granny Smith apples... they are all apples... maybe one is crunchier or sweeter than the other by a bit... aero wheels are never only about slicing wind nowadays... they have made it more complicated by measuring aero efficiency at yaw angels, dirty turbulent wind left by the wheels and how it affects your aero downtube and many other crazy factors... so... HED or Zipp??? up to you... i guess Zipp is more commonly available as a mass marketed product hence you see more of it...HED or Enve smart wheels are not seen a lot over here but the good thing about HED stingers and Smart Enve is you can pair them up with what you like... so can Zipp rims... but only if the zipp shops bring them in... to add on other than aero... zipp has a more complete package as a wheel with it's famed 88 / 188 hubs with it's perfectly rounded ball swiss steel bearings with teflon retainer with the option to go ceramics if you can splurge... QUOTE(miaopurr @ Nov 14 2012, 10:43 AM) i think it's fair to say that no lightweight hubs are ever going to be durable... it's mostly the freehub that srews up most of the time and it's a bomb to replace it...think it's a cool RM1k to replace it...![]() same goes for fulcrums...even chris king R45's are not going to be durable if you don't service it with their ringlube once in a while... if durability is a concern... get some shimano dura ace hubs and don't gripe about the weight... ![]() even if the freehub does not screw up epically... you have problems dealing with the aluminum freehub body after a period of time where the cassette will start chewing into the spines...it's a known problem for many aluminum freehub designs... bearings is the least of concerns at this point unless it's the one within the freehub seizing up...i've seen some bent axles as well, but also not a big concern... QUOTE(miaopurr @ Nov 14 2012, 01:36 PM) wahlaueh..... mahal betul.... what about this? hard to say lar....http://www.hscceramics.com.au/HSC-Bike-Cer...lset-Mavic.html ceramic bearings cannot cincai choose one as far as i've read before... on one end of the choosing part is how smooth and round the balls is (mind the pun, not meaning anything dirty here... serious talk).. which is where ceramic excels and shaping rounder balls is easier with ceramic than any metal...it is also quite hard to wear ceramic balls down as well as it is harder to cause abrasion to the balls where contaminant enters the bearing compared to steel balls... on the other end... the bearing races will have to fully complement the ceramic balls... this means that the races have to be hardened up to sustain the ceramic balls or the races wear out prematurely... i think there are some manufacturers that makes ceramic races as well... but, not sure about it as i read that the races are still better off made of steel... can't remember why... but it needs harder steel than the ones meant for ceramic balls, that's for sure...ceramic races is something like this ![]() then there is the retainer where some companies choose to use balls all around with no retainer while some uses a PTFE or teflon retainer to guide the balls around... Dan Wray said he was "trying to remove the oil from anhydrous ammonia and I ended up with this substance". This association with aerospace was responsible for the name of the brand. The name "Astroglide" was originally licensed to a small company in North Hollywood (in 1982). QUOTE(mrjgx @ Nov 16 2012, 12:33 AM) Hoi the shiv is way out of question lah. Haha. Went around for window shopping..confirms prices here are a bit on the higher side compare to Malaysia. of course it's out of the question lar... it's not even seen around here let alone having one... Btw is this one considers a bargain to get? Scott foil 30 equipped with Rival. Rim as in the pix below. Around rm10k plus only...it's a tad of a bit more cash from the new DA 9000... Another aero question...should I get 404 for front and rear, or 303 in front and 404 at the rear or 404 front and 808 rear? I heard that having deeper section wheels on the rear will act like a sail, planted our bike while the front is when it get thrown around by the wind. Hence the less deep in front is suggested. I wonder how will the zipp behaves as even the normal rims like my FR0 already affected by the sidewind so much.. i think the price is more or less the same around here.. kindred got his with force for additional 3k i think.. actually... it is possible to pair 404 and 808... but mostly tri guys only do that... no sense doing that on road because the 808 is not exactly what you call light in the first place... 303 and 404... don't think it brings much difference except it looks cool... cross winds are tough and the higher the profile... the tougher it gets.. that is why you saw andy schleck crashed this year in a TT when he was blown off course by a big gust of side wind... nick wrote about this in a q&a before... read about it.. http://velonews.competitor.com/2012/04/bik...and-more_215372 the zipps are designed to handle all sorts of wind conditions... that being said.. they are still gonna react to heavy winds blowing.. they are not magical in that sense...they are just more efficient at cutting through wind head on... that's all... Added on November 16, 2012, 9:07 am QUOTE(miaopurr @ Nov 16 2012, 06:55 AM) yeah... that's a great idea... in fact you can throw in something special in the mix... like amphetamines, corticosteroids, etc.... it'll be the best refueling mix ever... bet you'll put allen lim out of biz...why didn't USPS thought of distributing PED in energy gels??? that is so inconspicuous...
