Today a old friend of mine who work as sales exec ask me why i dont buy better cars as i just driving a dugong while he own a crz which he upgraded lately from a proton saga lmst.

He advise me to get another car instead of driving my cheap dugong.. He said dugong too common and not suitable for guy. I dont have comment about that as i more care about investment on properties which can earn $$..

I know as a sales exec might need better cars to prove to their customer that they are capable but i work in MNC i feel no need to waste money just to upgrade to one level right..?

I have few friends who work as sales also drive cars better than me but they are just staying in apartment and some just rent room/house. Good cars for me wont boost my salary.. I know good car for them might be helpful..

How do u guys think..? If got extra cash >90k on hand, you will change car..?

No problem ts, u r not alone. I drive a myvi but own a land and farm.
Malaysians generally equates car to wealth, thats why they r slaves for life.
Loans r available to enhance the illusion of affordability for the general public.
Trust me, U will have the last laugh when the time is right to flaunt!

Well, if you want to drive a safer/more enjoyable car, i.e. you actually want a better car, then change. Otherwise just keep the Vios. It will get you from A to B.

Basically just do whatever you want and what makes you happy. Does it matter if others think you are rich? I am more willing to give way to someone in a cheap car. biggrin.gif (Unless it's a Vios or Avanza, then I don't give way, or a German car, then I do). Of course if you need it to make business (i.e. you need to give a good image, you have to meet clients and customers that are very rich, ...) then it is different. But you said that doesn't apply to you.

Also beware that an expensive car will make you a more likely target for robbery, since you are apparently rich.

vios is nice to drive too.
maintenance is cheaper than SSS too.
finally, no point getting an expensive car if you have yet to own a house/condo at least.

What is the guy doing there, standing between Vios and hill? Looks photoshopped to me.

However this one: http://notenarchive.de/nakgotha/bilder/AutoinDach1.jpg is 100% real. IIRC the Skoda is in about 7 meters height. The driver survived.

lol. There is no fireman between car and roof, or my eyes aren't good enough. However there are videos of the scene, should you really doubt it.

Still, the Vios looks a bit odd at the place where it blends into the hill. On the other hand someone must have been really bored to do a few pretty convincing Photoshops, so I guess it's real too.

90k cash? cannot get u anywhere if u want a better car..
assume u cannot use all of it, probably can upgrade to c segment only.

i think no point, from vios at least to camry only got feel.
use it somewhere else to generate income..and vios isnt exactly that bad or shame, many will still wooo waahhh over it.

actually it depends on ur own preference. but the main point is never listen to others. but to me vios is good enough. unless u'r driving an old rusty car..or viva..(viva is ok..but for family..not ok).
Investment is good..but no point keep investing until u reach 60-70 yrs old and a bit weak to enjoy it..(if u lives til tht age!)..so u need a good investment plan. wink.gif

I totally agree bro!

Why drive a BMW when a Myvi can take u from point A to B as well.

Sure you might be less safe, might be slower, less comfortable, lose some face...

But heck... at the end of the day... with all your smart investment... when you are 80+... you can flaunt your wealth and enjoy life man!  thumbup.gif

yeah, hence the disposable income. some line of work needs 'gaya' or 'face' to get a better impression which is true. it's just that some people rush into decision too fast or going way off limits. i know a MLM friend who keeps boasting how well his career is. end up getting a second hand 320. was thinking of shooting him why buy a second hand 320 and not a new camry but i held back rolleyes.gif

Vios is not that bad... since you driving the Dugong version which is also the current model... unless vios come out with Dugong 2.0 which is another 2-3 more years to come...

I say keep that car.. since your car is still below 5 years and have no major breakdown... if you want to look better in Dugong invest in some bodykit...
so your Dugong will look like a nicer Dugong.. haha....

anyhow CRz is nice but really do you need one?? this is a endless race... once you buy CRz then your fren will poison you to have a Beemer or Audi... really seriously....

the reasons why the company asked the mid & higher management to change new & better car if the car age exceed 5-10years... reasons? higher commitment for better car = working harder for bonus & commission = company more profit... anyway, it happened to my previous company, even my boss going retried soon but my CEO forcing him to change car, just like throwing my boss into deep shit... doh.gif

anyway, for young generation without family and house yet... better save the money to get a new house and grow up our coming family... for my case squeeze hard from my salary RM1800+ for RM300k house with my wife that time while i still paying the car loan... sweat.gif no doubt, my decision was right, my house price hiked to RM600k+ now, otherwise i may no afford to buy a house now even thought my salary are more than triple now as i have my own family now and personal complusory expenses... some more my senior colleague take a long time for consideration and negotiation to buy a house around my area and claimed that too expensive to afford even though he can sell his 2 apartment to cover the new house's pricing... think about it... smile.gif

to TS, this is just my advise. you may think or forget it

keep the car and use it as your main transport from point a to b. better make saving for you to buy house, because house once you invest it, you can sell higher. unlike car, you invest, then you sell lower. where got car you buy then sell higher. or if you already got house & car, go for investment like public mutual, cimb investment etc. you will get profit and save it as for your future wheng getting older and older. once you retired, car wont help you much when sell it, but your saving can treat your retirement longer with you sack full of invested + profit money

dont just think now. think for future too

Ok. Have to agree different ppl different perspective. But the point you made on this I have to disagree "Its their money after all". Coz if you buy a car you can't afford, its not only your money at stake but your future generation will be in debt with you brows.gif

OK here is reality check...

Business man change car because they need to show people that they have the $$$ to sustain and do bigger business

Rich kid change car cause they can spend daddy money and they are spoiled anyways smile.gif also get laid easier too smile.gif

Sales Man buy car cause to show people they are Super salesman...

MLM man buy car cause their UPLINE told them too smile.gif also easier to get recruit...

Poor people buy car cause eitheir their car breakdown or they change to poorer smaller car (no offence)

I change car cause my old car giving me trouble...

You thinking change car cause being poison by a friend... think about it... worth it??

if change car will get you
1. Find rich girl to get marry (better than investment) then go ahead...
2. Your old car is in a mess... then change it!!!
3. You listed to your friend... yeah good luck

Personally I don't think there's a need for u to change your current Vios dugong for a more expensive ride just to prove it to your customers/clients that u are doing perfectly well in sales.

Unless u are dealing with clients which gives u at least RM800K to RM2 Mil sales per annum. Your old friend's style is most likely applies to those who are in the financial consulting or insurance related industry.

I'm an IT graduate moons years ago & made my earnings from sales after I felt that sales line tends to provide me with unlimited income. I was driving a souped up Wira-lution about 9 years ago when I was joined the corporate world but managed to secure good deals from my clients that time. Now I'm a section head manager for a MNC which I'll be tagging along with my sales managers to meet some potential big corporate clients, most of them doesn't bother by what kind of ride u are driving.

What they are looking for is a good deal which give win, win situation to both parties as well pricing structure only. FYI, I'm currently only driving an old SXV10R Camry & my clients are either being chauffeur in this Bentley, Audi A8, Jaguar or some of them drive on their own which their rides includes Gallardo, Murcielago, F430 Scuderia, 438 Italia & loads more of those exotic rides which takes pages for me to list it out here.

Initially I've the same thinking like u few years ago which made me bought a 2009 limited edition VW Golf GTi Caractere MK5 just to "show" my clients how "high" I was in the corporate ladder but I was wrong. It was an impulsive purchase but it was also one of my dream cars too, so I'm enjoying the ride still but uses my old junk Camry as daily workhorse. I'm still able to strike a big deal with various corporate clientele up to date. It's just how u present yourself to them during the presentation or meet up. Simple! Have a lots of confidence & listen more on their requirements then only come out with action plans to execute the deal.

Good luck & keep your dugong as it's still a Toyota! Bullet-proof ride if u asked me!

Who said both have to be mutually exclusive? you can invest some money AND own a nice car. The point is to do it in moderation.

One extreme end of the spectrum, invest all your money in property, receiving RM100k rent every month, but rides around on a kapchai.

On the other extreme end, drives a Aventador, but goes home to a one bedroom flat and eat Gardenia.

Up to you to find that place in between where you are happiest.

Why? If one were to read up the history (wikipedia) of Kerusuhan Mei 1998 and you've know what I mean. The chinese there learnt it the gruelsome past.

And also because in Indonesia, if you drive up a nice car, you're a potential target.

Yes I've heard of it too. Sounds silly but it had happened.

learn from indon? u kidding me? ya, kerusuhan, so God exists, and wipe them out in one shot, remember tsunami? entire generation wiped out.

if u think owning a nice car is not encouraged, instead one should spend it on staying 5star hotel and buying expensive handbags or spend it on escorts? well, thats your money, but its FNF here.

if wanna talk about financial management, there is a section in lowyat, i'm sure u can learn a lot from there.

in FnF we talk cars, not how to save up and spend in dubai 5 star. thanks.

and i'm pissed when i see that example of indon.

It depends.

When you drive a BMW in malaysia, no. If you drive a Bugatti Veyron or a Koenigsegg, then yes.

But hold on.

In my homecountry switzerland, there are 18 year old graduates buying their own 5series BMW or C class mercedes. Easy, thanks to leasing and car financing. Also we got 0% import tax LOL. The lowest brand you can drive there is a Volkswagen. So there its really not showing wether youre rich or not. Its still your house that really shows your status ! and wether you live alone or with 55 siblings.

Just sharing stories, not teaching others.
It saddens me to see such person who are obviously jealous of others.

But If you are so worked up about it,sorry can't help you either, thats your decision.
But keep that sarcasm and jealousy to yourself will you, for the sake of others.

Again, like some people here shared that some rather spend on a posh car, but still live in a apartment.
Or some have a Proton Wira but living in a 2 1/2 story house.

P.s - FYI I'm not an Indonesian BTW. I'm a Malaysian. smile.gif

Different people different opinion la.

Some people buy nice car to impress themselves and their friend, because car is being driven out and seen by many others.
They do not care much about their living place as no one even bother that much about it.

Some other people buy better housing to enjoy and better living lifestyle. They do not care much about impressing others of their cars and luxury product, as long as they live happy and lack of nothing is more than enough.

I'd say that car does make me look rich. Ahem, a nice car like Accord.
By first impression, people will sees how expensive the product is and you had it in your hands. Although you're loaning it, but who cares about that, people talks about what they see in the current state.

In my own opinion, car is a needy tool in current days at KL. No car, means you got a hectic life with KTMs Buses or LRTs.
It does bring much advantages as it became my travelling tool. Talk about travelling, any car can do the job.

To buy a better car. I will do that when I have extra cash money which is really 'extra' and flexible enough to be spend to upgrade my vehicles. As long as the sum of money doesn't affect my lifestyle even if I spend it, it is all good

First, your indon story is stupid. its like saying, that girl got xxxxx because she wear sexy. then you trying to tell how safe it is to not wear sexy, ignoring the fact that it is your freedom to drive whatever car you wanted here, without fearing of your life been taking, or your daughter and wife xxxxx right in front of you.

second, bro, you sick? how can i jealous of you when you did not mention any of your wealth and your car? go get a life. who will be jealous of your stupid example , which is the only thing that you shared here? wait....you mean you're the millionaire that take bicycle and go shopping in dubai? like i care.

bad indon story, and i feel sorry about you when you try to use this kind of story to justify why you wanna drive rubbish car. even animals do not conduct those indon action. and God/superman/batman/mother nature wiped them out in one night.

Jealous? doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

Make 1 point right. CRZ is not in above league then a vios.

Crz is just 2 doors and vios 4 doors. Vios can catch up with a crz no problem. stock vs stock.

Want status, if he drive a 2 door Audi,Mers or BMW ok la...

Crz..... my god... he really a sales man la..

You dont see Merc/BMWs in Medan cause the road/flood is BAD! My Odyssey 3.0 nearly stalled infront of Thamrin plaza due to what they consider a "minor" flood! My frens there driving 4wd/suvs all laughed at me.

Infact, the percentage of private sedans in medan is reall small.

Car can be an INTANGIBLE investment because you & your family worth more than any of your properties & investments, NO?

High-end card normally comes with more safety equipments. Car value drops but family value grows sitting in a safer car. Wealth is more than just dollar & cent, for me at least wink.gif

dugong is good enough. Why burden yourself more becoz some friend said you should.

And just doing sales is not like you are some manager level ppl or rich businessman.

Car can be an INTANGIBLE investment because you & your family worth more than any of your properties & investments, NO?

High-end card normally comes with more safety equipments. Car value drops but family value grows sitting in a safer car. Wealth is more than just dollar & cent, for me at least  wink.gif

Not only that.... when you go holiday.. why stay in a 5 star hotel? Why not stay in a cheap Inn? Cause more comfort? more safety?

Applies to the car also.... u pay for the Comfort, Safety, etc.

Some peopel think the 30k they save by putting their family in a car without airbag is fine... up to them. Everyone have their own priority.

Rich means no need to do anything also got money to spend for life. Driving a nice car does not make one rich. What a stupid idea to spend hundred thousands on car when that money can work to make more money.

I see some forumers are attacking my personal opinions, and this is unwanted
But first , I apologise first for some rudeness in some my context.

Some choose to flash as much wealth as they want, drive Lamborghini, to make others envious and be snobbish.
Some choose to be humble even though they have abundance of wealth.

If you want to drive a Ferrari just to pick up some chics at ZOUK to hopefully to bang them tonight, go ahead.
No one stops you. I repeat. No one stops you. You have the cash. Its your money. Not mine.

But if you just have a MYVI right now and still happily socialise with friends for mamak, then go ahead also.
It still makes you happy. I'm happy also too.

Nobody says you are not allowed Ferrari, Lamborghini.
I also want a Aston Martin if I could really afford one.
Everyone surely has their dream cars.

But if you cannot afford one now, be grateful for what car you have NOW. yes. Grateful.
Be it just a MYVI, Kancil, Saga BLM, etc. Because its happier to be grateful of what you own now.
Than being over envious of other people driving posh cars.
Life is meant to be happy. So what if you just have a MYVI.Its you yourself is happy driving it. Not for him/her driving the Ferrari.

If anyone still disagrees about whatever I share about my Indo story, and thinks they know better than me.
Thats your opinion. Sarcasm doesn't help either. Period. I am happy with my current lifestyle.

Buying an expensive car for comfort and safety I can agree, but buying a car for the sole purpose of impressing your peers is another thing.

But one can argue that owning a nice ride that impresses others makes one happy, and you can't put a price on happiness. To that I can only say, each to his own.

driving a nice car reflects what you have achieved and that makes you happy. of course, everyone has their ego to feed, just to the point of how much does the ego needs to be fed. if a young chap buys a civic with a rm1000 loan from his rm3000 loan, that's feeding way too much for his ego. if another chap gets a free civic from his dad, that's his luck. i don't see the point of butthurt in this case. all i can see these days are people with nice clothes and nice rides but can't afford a nice meal in the mall.

It's just a matter of personal needs and wealth management as well.

Like my mom said, if she don't enjoy now, she might as well end up driving paper cars when she dies someday. For her case, it's understandable.

Yes, getting a better or should I said, the right car, which fits your job and personal life also matters. Maybe he just spoke it right out of the blues, but in reality, it met his personal needs.

Just like my company (not mine, my employer), we are underpaid and compensated with company cars for use. If you asked me, I would rather had my salary increment inline with the market and I choose whether I need a car badly or something else. Really sucks because at the end of the day, cars still belongs to the company and if you wanna move on, had to prepare a car first.
