Personally I don't think there's a need for u to change your current Vios dugong for a more expensive ride just to prove it to your customers/clients that u are doing perfectly well in sales.
Unless u are dealing with clients which gives u at least RM800K to RM2 Mil sales per annum. Your old friend's style is most likely applies to those who are in the financial consulting or insurance related industry.
I'm an IT graduate moons years ago & made my earnings from sales after I felt that sales line tends to provide me with unlimited income. I was driving a souped up Wira-lution about 9 years ago when I was joined the corporate world but managed to secure good deals from my clients that time. Now I'm a section head manager for a MNC which I'll be tagging along with my sales managers to meet some potential big corporate clients, most of them doesn't bother by what kind of ride u are driving.
What they are looking for is a good deal which give win, win situation to both parties as well pricing structure only. FYI, I'm currently only driving an old SXV10R Camry & my clients are either being chauffeur in this Bentley, Audi A8, Jaguar or some of them drive on their own which their rides includes Gallardo, Murcielago, F430 Scuderia, 438 Italia & loads more of those exotic rides which takes pages for me to list it out here.
Initially I've the same thinking like u few years ago which made me bought a 2009 limited edition VW Golf GTi Caractere MK5 just to "show" my clients how "high" I was in the corporate ladder but I was wrong. It was an impulsive purchase but it was also one of my dream cars too, so I'm enjoying the ride still but uses my old junk Camry as daily workhorse. I'm still able to strike a big deal with various corporate clientele up to date. It's just how u present yourself to them during the presentation or meet up. Simple! Have a lots of confidence & listen more on their requirements then only come out with action plans to execute the deal.
Good luck & keep your dugong as it's still a Toyota! Bullet-proof ride if u asked me!
