I find that this comment on Paultan is quite interesting, I thought that we paid a lot of tax money to own an imported car but...
QUOTE
According to another website, this new Civic has 60% local content level. From an article here last year, Inspira during launch only had 26% local content and Proton was targeting for 65% local content after one year.

The Inspira price is a lot lower than Lancer thanks to a lower tax from the high local content level. I believe the Civic would also enjoy a lower tax thanks to its high local content level.

The question is, why the price of Civic has increased instead of decrease? Is Honda Malaysia raking in a lot of profit?

http://paultan.org/2012/07/12/honda-civic-...rvice-interval/

With some googling I found the articles that mentioned about the local content for both cars:

unless proton rebadge civic..then u can get cheaper civic. honda already ckd their car long time ago in mlk. while inspira is 'new' to proton. so it takes time for proton to produce their own parts.

It is actually true on the local content parts. The more local content on the cars, the less excise duty you can get.

But we never know how much the local content on the cars, only manufacturer knows.

This is like an incentive via NAP to help local vendors and suppliers.

However, we don't actually see the benefit of having local content because automakers will keep the price as it is.

CKD is one thing. We are talking on local contents, which parts is produce locally.

DSZ mention that the more local parts you have in a car, the less excise duty you will have. As low as 60% i guess. Compare to non local content CKD is 75% tax (for 1.8liter and below).

From the CBT article:
QUOTE
the all new Civic is assembled at Honda Malaysia's Pegoh plant in Alor Gajah, Melaka. Local assembly meant that additional time is required to retool the plant and sourcing of local components, thus explains the two months gap between the Civic's launch in Thailand. Local content rate for the Civic is about 60 per cent.

Huh?

Does this means Honda Civic can be sold for much lower... but Honda is trying to milk buyers for as much as possible and fool water-fish & fan-bois loyal supporters into paying premium?! blink.gif

Come on dude....

When the badge is P, the value and image gone. In this case, even worse, rebadge!

For Honda, it's carry the status. Even now u pull out statistic and compare, still.... Honda smile.gif

Honda ftw. Maybe Toyota too.

Local contents are subjective. I can hire alot of local dead wood in the admin and management side to offset the local content production.

So you knew this civic isn't worth that price tag, but because you thought the Honda is a premium, then you willing to overpay to Honda Malaysia? doh.gif

Yes bro.

IMHO, Honda anytime better image then those local cars or koreans. You can park Civic next to Audi and not feel shy, almost same status le.

If that image comes with a slight premium, so be it!
