Sorry if this has been asked before, but what's a good amp for the DT880 250 around RM800? I will use it with my Ipod and Asus Xonar DG for gaming so I'll want to be able to use Dolby Headphone if possible. I'm looking at Über muzik Tiny Tube DAC, Maverick MagicTube A1 or D1 and Govibe Peak.

Thanks biggrin.gif

i would recommend the tiny tube DAC/Amp for DT880/250. however if your main purpose is for gaming, i'm not sure how suitable it would be.

ahhh like that the TTD would do fine. you know that you need a LOD and a mini -> RCA interconnect too right, to use the TTD with your ipod.

and one more thing to point out is that in this case where

ipod->TTD->dt880/250,

you're still using the internal DAC of the ipod and not the DAC on the TTD.

Ah thanks. Do you know how the Govibe Peak is with it? Also, is it possible to use the TTD as an amp without the DAC on a computer? Or is it possible to use Dolby Headphone with the TTD on my PC?

Thanks biggrin.gif

Peak has a V shape sound, with bass emphasis. with the bass boost on, it leaks into the mids.

it is possible to use TTD just as an amp without going through the DAC (TTD has a line in function) but it would probably sound better using the DAC in the TTD than your onboard soundcard.

Dolby headphones with TTD is not possible as TTD only supports 2.0 sound.

if you have any further questions regarding the TTD, please drop me a PM to discuss.

Which headphone you are going to match it with?
T1 matches quite sell with SPL Phonitor on test smile.gif
It will also do smoothly with Yamamoto, with a little bit too smooth sometimes. smile.gif

Am planning to match it with the T1. I have tried the phonitor a while back but not with a T1 combo. I heard from forumers here and headfi that the T1/WA2 combo is a great match. I've also heard good things about the T1/Burson combo. Havent read or heard anything about a T1/Schiit Lyr combo.

T1 Burson is a bad match trust me. I really doubted the reviews here now.
It makes the both ends edgy. Even Portatube+ is much better and smoother.

if you like the T1/portatube combo, then don't bother with the lyr. Go with the WA2 combo or other tube amps.

It is true that T1 will match better with tubes. More smoother and palatable.
I also hooked it with yamamoto and it performs well.

i don't think the T1 + Burson 160 / Soloist is that bad a match. the Burson amp lacks a little body, making the T1 sounds a little thinnish but if you're looking for a very clean and precise sound, the 160 or soloist will give you that precision and it wouldn't be dry by any means.

If T1 pairs well with Tubes, I guess maybe T70 too? Tryin to find a "value" tube for my T70 as well. Tired of driving it straight out of Dacport LX.

Dry isn't the word, but since the 160 is a no-nonsense amp and the T1 can easily be harsh and metallic, the burson makes the T1 very very harsh indeed.

I did try the T1s with a DNA Sonett and they were pretty much on par with the worlds top dynamic headphones with that combo.

The difference and synergy of amps sometimes can be a hair's breadth apart, and sometimes its due to psycho-acoustics, or even individual emotions.

I was kinda avoiding tubes because I wonder if they sound like "distorted". And it's a totally different kind of amp to me, rendering me not knowing where to start. Maybe getting bravo or other cheaper alternatives will help. Tubes...Tubes...Heard they make audiophile recordings "shine"!

i made a bulk, targeted to be only for 5 units, retail sold 1 or 2 units, and then the virus spread like "resident evil", and my bulk became a whooping 15 units, it even gave a stun to suppliers, cause they hardly manage to make 15 on a short notice, but they did, congrats on that. since then, i did not see any of the people who bought that amp selling it off, instead all are showing off~

it does match well with beyers, no doubt, even on the cheap ones like bravo, rule of thumb for tube sound is warm mid, which is what beyers are good at also, so it's a great match

only if you like warm mids. otherwise you'd find them to be colored with all sorts of shades.

its up to your individual taste. by colored in shades i mean that you won't achieve neutrality, transparency with tubes. not impossible to achieve though, with careful tube rolling and matching, you can still achieve neutrality.

main drawbacks of tubes: loss of PRaT, treble roll-off, lack of bass depth, loss of details and placement.

advantages: musicality, naturality, smoothness and lushness of sound.

i listen to everything with tubes, pop, rock, jazz, metal, orchestras etc etc. ultimately, its what kind of sound you are looking for.

If T1 pairs well with Tubes, I guess maybe T70 too? Tryin to find a "value" tube for my T70 as well. Tired of driving it straight out of Dacport LX.
*
I kindda liked T70. It drives easily with most of the amps. Maybe due to its lowered impedance compare to T1. Although T1 when drive well it will fly you up to the heavens, but investment is quite high too.

QUOTE(wilzc @ Jul 31 2012, 03:09 PM)
Dry isn't the word, but since the 160 is a no-nonsense amp and the T1 can easily be harsh and metallic, the burson makes the T1 very very harsh indeed.

I did try the T1s with a DNA Sonett and they were pretty much on par with the worlds top dynamic headphones with that combo.

The difference and synergy of amps sometimes can be a hair's breadth apart, and sometimes its due to psycho-acoustics, or even individual emotions.
*
I also have the same feeling with wilzc cool.gif . T1 is not easy to find a matching amp. With burson's powerful presentation, it just added the harshness. Try Fostex HP-A8 32bit DAC + amp. It drives quite beautifully just that I cant find enough gain that time.

QUOTE(phillip88 @ Jul 31 2012, 04:01 PM)
I was kinda avoiding tubes because I wonder if they sound like "distorted". And it's a totally different kind of amp to me, rendering me not knowing where to start. Maybe getting bravo or other cheaper alternatives will help. Tubes...Tubes...Heard they make audiophile recordings "shine"!
*
Agreed, each person has their own preference. Tube and SS is a totally different world.

sorry but i must respectfully say that the HP-A8 is a much much better DAC than amp although the amp is Jaben KL is practically brand new and probably needs a couple of hundred hours to run in although i doubt it will sound like much.

hey guyss,

I'm looking for something very comfortable for long hours & sound quality is given the highest priority. I enjoy bass but not excessively bassy. I listen to a variety eg. kpop, english mostly ballads like Demi Lovato and Adele, Chinese songs. Do you think DT231pro is a suitable choice given my tight budget?

Thanks smile.gif

Yes, for long hours, not only the comfortable you have to factor in. You also need to factor in the soothing-ness of the music that it offers. Like some sort of 'peace of mind', no piercing highs, no overemphasis bass. DT231pro, yup it will satisfy you.

High ohms require amps with high voltage swing while low ohms require more currents.
Volume wise, low ohms are easier to drive.

It depends, say akg k701 and th900, both are low impedance but the akg are so much harder to drive to get the optimal sound quality whereas the th900 sounds good even out of an iPhone.
If your purpose for amping is mainly for volume, my iPhone can drive my HD800 to an acceptable level but sound quality was horrible.
So my suggestion is go and audition first to see your requirements, wether an amp give you that improvement that you desire. icon_rolleyes.gif

both of them are not strong actually, different as DT880 provides more airy and wide open sound due to the open air design, wide balance across range.
While T70 is more on close and accurate side, it is more detail, accurate and cleaner then DT880, however it lose out the airy and musicality of DT880.

DT880 bass is just nice for me. If T70 does not have weaker bass than DT880 then it's good for me.

So far T90 seems to be the DT880 successor IMO. It shares almost the same tonality as DT880 but more forward treble. It was pretty harsh outside the box but after near 200 hours the harshness has subsided but not entirely gone. The mids do sound a bit recessed because of the treble. As for the bass it behaves almost similar to DT880; it will appear when the source demands it. The quality and quantity of the bass it is definitely better compared to DT880, can't really do any comparison with T70 as I've auditioned it only for a few hours but I recall from memory the T70 bass is not that much better than DT880. Selection of source is also important as T90 is much more revealing and unforgiving than DT880.

As for comparison with T1, no doubt T1 is better. T90 treble is much more forward and harsher compared to T1. Everything else T1 is probably better by a notch.

And here's a better pic:

Well, if we are saying equivalent and beyerdynamic is doing a step up from its predecessor, T90 will be probably a successor of DT990, as you can see from their design (fully open). I believe there will be a T80 soon.

As the numbering implies, yeah. Sound wise it is much more akin to DT880.

IMO T70 does not even sound like a DT770.

Yes the tesla series are all different from its predesessor. T70 is smooth and fluid so it is not even close to dt770pro. Ya the concept is the same but the drivers are different. I suspect they are delaying their t80 maybe they wanted to tune for the best for one of their best seller last time.

Hmm, just compared driving straight from laptop and Pico on high gain.

The difference, with the DAC and Amp, it is much deeper and has sense of depth, hence making the vocal more realistic, instrumentation more detail and clear.

Soundstage width about the same, Bass got deeper and harder, treble didn't hear (or katput ear can't seem to differentiate).

It's better to have the Pico, but I can accept it without too, difference is there and I know I am missing things too, just doesn't feel right smile.gif

I think they best way is to clean up the songs with DAC, and add an amp.

They have different sound signatures though, the DT990 sounds something like my Grado SR80i, bright but with better soundstage. The HE-400 sounds dark in comparison. And yeah, I agree that the DT990 600 is hard to amp. Currently using FiiO E17+E09K for it. Might upgrade later to the O2/ODAC combo. Schiit Lyr would be ideal but its too expensive at the moment. sad.gif

I've heard the DT880 a few years ago in your SS15 shop and I preferred the DT990's sound over the DT880. I guess that's why I went with the DT990 instead. biggrin.gif

It is personnel preference. DT990 supposing to be higher end than DT880 though. Depending on the price tag.
I suggest u go up to Beyer A1 amp level. Fiio E17 is like a kiddo pulling a elephant.

Yeah which is why I got the E09K as well to pair with the E17 to drive the DT990 properly. This is just a temporary solution though, I might return the DT990 and stick with the HE-400 instead. biggrin.gif

T1 is indeed easier to amp. I refused to believe when I went to Jaben when they told me you can actually play T1 direct straight from your iPod (though not recommended) and still audible compared to HD800 or LCD2

T1 is indeed easier to amp. I refused to believe when I went to Jaben when they told me you can actually play T1 direct straight from your iPod (though not recommended) and still audible compared to HD800 or LCD2

Hey guys, I got a DT1350 from Jaben and its awesome, it is just that this headphone although comfortable but gets hot really quickly when worn after an hour. I am looking to upgrade or go for a bigger more comfortable headphone for home usage.

I would like to know which one from Beyerdynamic would compliment well with this headphone? Also I would like to know if there is any difference between the DT880 Pro and the normal DT880. Help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Pro has twisted cable which is heavier

Long duration listening then you need velour pads from dt770, 880, 990

Bought DT770 80 ohm @ Jaben Penang just now. Love the velour pads, it's so comfortable.

Shoppers are kind and they definitely are audiophiles. Also, thanks noobandroid for giving me opinions/advises. smile.gif

Will give an impression of T1 pairing with burson soloist (amp) and DACmini (dac only) soon. Early impression seems promising but will give more burn in hours first before making a comparison.

For most genre, the burson does a beautiful job especially in fast pace music especially Jazz & Rock.

However the centrance dacmini (dac/amp) does a better job when it comes to female vocals as the burson can sound very harsh (not pleasant)

I think it's the dampening that is attached to the main driver, definitely not the main driver diaphragm.

The faulty side now have sliiiightly less bass body, not really noticeable unless you're doing some real serious critical listening. Nothing to worry about I guess.

It's really hard to notice the difference in sound, and then only noticeable in some bass-heavy tracks.

But it sucks that my DT880 basically lost all resale value.

Sound is quite satisfying for a sub RM-200 headphone. Bass is good and punchy, lows and mids are good, vocal seems a bit bland but my expectations are too high.

Also, the sound signature is dark compared to most of the other brands. Sound stage is average.

The XP3 sounds better after a short period of burn in induced. hmm.gif

If it does improve more than this, the price to performance ratio is really good. I would say this is one of the best sub RM300 earphone.

Well, my opinion is kind of biased tongue.gif

the D1 in many people POV, is rather disappointing, somehow might be due to the mix of solids and tubes, they dont go well together maybe

For now I'm using Stoner Acoustics UD100 while waiting for an upgrade soon. It's a very good DAC for the price IMO.

I find that with DACport LX it makes my T90 shine. The bass now have more slam and the midrange is nowhere recessed. I think with these combo and my current amp; Graham Slee Solo II, I might have found my endgame. With that said I have yet to audition the HD800, HE-5/600 and the LCD-2/3.

Last I tried beyer T1 and other models through dacport LX and GSII (both solo and linear), it seems to be to mellow (though it smoothen out the harshness), don't feel it has much improvement on the slam effect on the bass but maybe that's me.

Can anyone share your opinion of a T1 being powered with Crossroad Edge amp and Centrace DACport? I know it's definitely not enough but I'd like to know how much does it lack? Am planning to get the T1 first n then slowly save up an explore the best amp to pair with it.

Let me know what you guys think smile.gif

i bought i think around RM200, sound wise, BTG always insist that he makes his cables to sound as "less gimmick" as possible, and this is no exclusion, quite enjoyable cable at least

BTG, as in Brian Goto, is a guy who doesnt believe in things like OCC and cryo treatment, he said this:

Depend on how you treat it, but I can say for xp series I am not surprised to see this, have you pulled it regularly? or pull the cable instead of 'jack head' of plug?

It will be honestly quite underpowered.
There is two choice that you can get T70, or T1 then a good amp later on.

There is no dial.

And you would do best to avoid headphones with volume control dial. They always break.

IF anyone is interested, I'm offloading my own Beyer T1 and LCD2. Moving to another hobby, and that needed immediate cash flow.

Was watching Pitch Perfect (movie) the other day while wearing my headphones (don't wanna wake the neighbours at 2am). There's one scene where I was like "hey, are those the same headphones I'm using?". Yes, it was the DT770 Pro. What a weird situation.

Just joined the Beyerdynamic camp a couple of hours ago.
Got myself a pair of Custom One Pro from amazon and I'm breaking them in now.

I must say, even out of the box, they sound great. I have my bass setting set to 1/2 and they give good punchy detailed bass and good soundstage. Can't wait to hear their full voice after 30hours of burning in.

amping on any headphone brings significant changes, now lets put this fact aside

dt770 has some sharper trebles but in comparison, COP has a smoother treble

the amount of bass in dt770 varies among ohm version, i took 250 so it requires quite some juice to have it sing, COP has no problem and is very amp- friendly

the only dt770 that pro reviewers think is a keeper is the anniversary edition 32 ohms

besides, who doesnt like the COP bass adjustment, it's just plain fun to have it

For sound staging and accuracy, for my opinion, DT770pro provides much better on that part.
COP able to offer fun adjustment due to the bass adjustable feature.

However COP is efficient, and you don't really require much power/amplifier to drive it, while 770pro really depends on the impedance you get, 32, 80, 250 and 600.

For 80 and above, amplifier is necessary for maximum sound potential.

Agrees on the efficient part. Even in my note 2 its quite loud
My COP distorts sometimes
For example bruno mars 'when i was your man' when he starts singing loud it starts to distort
Not sure if it was source problem, track or my COP driver got problem.
The file was 16bit 44.1k flac

try to get a benchmark by playing on youtube perhaps? or even download/rip a copy, or even better, play on the CD?

Sounds like source problem. COP supposedly can handle human frequency range.

If you're ever considering their tesla series, you can do better than the modi/magni combo which is very entry level considering you're going mid-fi to TOTL with that range smile.gif

thanks for reply man notworthy.gif

however, i went to Jaben and already checked. they're not bringing in DT990s anymore due to the better response they are having with DT880s.

I was thinking probably shops like CMY audio has them? dunno lah.

haha not really mate.

I'm more onto mid's.

I tried the DT880s, doesnt sound too appealing to me.

Many told me that the sound signature of both is similar, but I want to try it for myself before I want to conclude on that.

I'm using Fiio E7 right now. I feel that the bass are kind of lacking in terms of layering and body. I also felt the treble aren't as clear, it's not transparent enough. I'm more of the detail freak than bass freak, but I'm still both. I also never forget the sound of the MS Pro and HE5, it's like magic. I hope can find an amp that can bring out this headphone to the potential because I liked the noise isolation it offers. If not I have to upgrade headphones....

880 = neutral good mid, not so good high and low, and bass doesnt have that wide feeling

990 = good high good low, not so good mid, bass have that wide feeling

have been considering for 2 months and have been going to the shop to test for more than 10 times.....

very difficult to decide would like to hear some opinion and advise from long time users

bottom is.....

i quite like 990 with the wide open bass feel... but the highs are a bit too strong and mid is not good

on the 880 i like the mid and high but the low just doesnt have that wide open sound that I am looking for like in the 990

they are not cheap cans, that's why I have been considering for so long....

Try the DT880 with GoVibe Peak amp with bass boost on and off, you might like it.

*
There are 2 issues you are facing assuming you do have a really good source (FLAC, ALAC etc) in the first place.

The FiiO E7 at 16bits/48kHz is one and the Beyerdynamic DT770 being closed is another.

Is your Beyerdynamic DT770 the 250ohm version hmm.gif

Yeah it's the 250ohm version.

Weird, I plugged the beyer directly to the iphone5, I feel the sound is much better than using the fiio E7 with laptop running the same song.

but if you connect the fiio e07k to the e09k the fomer becomes a DAC.....
but both are still DAC + amp....

consider a few amp and dac before i bought that.... (nwavguy 02, magni modi, hifiman ef 5 ef 2a......except for the first one the rest are not available on local market)
cause wanted something portable and desktop which can connect headphone and my speaker
and not that expensive below RM1k for both
and available in Japan

But you're still bypassing the internal amp irregardless and that matters when you're pairing it with a seperate amp.

Although the products you listed above are not available locally, that doesn't mean you should only opt for locally available products only (they are cheaper sometimes to buy it direct from the international market and shipped it here). Just make sure the voltage specifications are correct and you're good to go wink.gif

The T1 is considered a semi open or open cans? hmm.gif

I wonder.. would it be worth it to save up for a pair of TOTL headphone such as the T1?

What amp should be capable of driving it?

How much are we looking at total?

most people would invest in dac/amp in at least equal, if not greater than the headphone's value which by itself is about 4-5k itself iinm? so maybe about 10k or so in total?
never really look into amps that can drive the T1 myself since i wasn't that interested in it as i still prefer full open cans. however general consensus is that most prefer tube amps or at least warm signature solid states to drive their T1's smile.gif

I see I see thanks for your opinion bro notworthy.gif

I am currently just a mid-fier with mid-fi level rig.

Probably in the future, id wanna invest more in this, hopefully with an increasing buying power tongue.gif

Its either the T1 or HD800.. but then the dac/amp thing is another factor to consider sweat.gif

oooh the hd800 is yet another beast, people can easily invest double or even triple the price of the can itself because the hd800 is among the only can i know that does this "what you feed in is what you get", meaning the better the amp, the better the headphone excels. oh and it's a full open can too wink.gif

It depends on how much you want to spend really as there are different "flavours" as to how people want their HD800/T1 to sound. Of course tube amps have been popular for the both of them and especially those models that are output transformer-less such as Woo Audio WA2 or Decware CSP2+ (most good amps, you are likely to buy it overseas and have them ship it here though).

Also, don't disregard solid state amps as "most" of them are actually quite decent in terms of their quality once you reached a certain level and models such as Schiit Mjolnir, Bryston BHA-1, Burson Soloist/Conductor are pretty good as well.

Funny thing I used to own the T1 last year and didn't enjoy the high's reproduction as I found it rather harsh (in my opinion) and have numerous changes over time until now tongue.gif

HD800 is really a beast.. but it does depend on your system.. I modest mid level rig is good enough to make it shine... T1 on the other hand, doesn't reflect much on the rig... it has its own character no matter what rig you put it through.. still high end nonetheless... haven't try it with tubes though..

I suggest you try and compare the T90 to the T1. IMO T1 is like 10-15% better, if not on the same level of details.

However from the user reports it seems the T90 is very picky when it comes to amp/dac pairings.

It differs from people to people. Some people hear changes, other doesn't.

It should be, but with much more improved sound signature, i wish they can make it more dynamic, such as the low and high frequency range.

Try Jaben, they should have the replacement pad, since they are selling the headphone too.

Hey guys,

My XP1 earphones have no audio.

But when I twist the wire's, a little audio plays.

Other than that, it has no sound.

I need help, bought it at Parkson.

Where should I claim warranty for it?

Thank you, and have a nice day.

Hoping for a fast reply from you guys. smile.gif

Hmm, sorry I dont understand the taxation part. Does that mean I have to pay when I collect my item (as in they will ask me to collect it) ?
Or I have already paid it without knowing?

Yes, sometimes you have to go 'certain place' to collect it.

Not uncomfortable but compared to full size of course on-ear will feel the clamping force. Tried in MRT the isolation is not as good as in ear but acceptable, SQ is balance towards V shape, more bass and treble a bit roll off, but with the promotion price is total worthy to get. And some review says after burn-in it will sound better.

Yeap, DTX501p is lean towards more casual sound signature. But hey, since it is light and portable, i can use it everywhere i like, and i need the bass punch when im outdoor for movie, gaming and music on my Note 2

To my ears, I'd skip DTX501P and go for DT231. I've heard one very good DT231 which the soundstage is so wide and defined. Maybe I'm not so into bass? hmm.gif

DT231pro is indeed a very good pair, neutral, balance with very comfortable sound signature, but it is harder to bring as outdoor, due to the design =/

anyone using Govibe Vestamp to drive DT880 250ohm? just curious, i can crank the vestamp volume up to max while listening to music sometime, and most of time quarter to max. below that its kinda too soft.. i just wonder, is vestamp capable to really drive this cans or not? or is it lacking power.. afraid that all this time actually i didn't hear the full potential of my DT880. lol

I also have DT880 pro.. I think vestamp amplifier is not enough to drive 250 ohms of DT880pro.. I am currently using Govibe Peak to drive it.. feel like getting a vestamp as DAC..

I've tried both the ALO RX MK-II and JDS Labs O2 amp; both are sufficient to drive the T1; I supposes driving the DT880 at 250ohm shouldn't be an issue with these amp.

Nv try the GoVibe before

I think a good combo with DT880 and govibe peak would be the AK10. Instead of spending so much on a combo like Vestamp+, why not get a specialized DAC? smile.gif

T51p
Around 100+hours old.

What I thought of the sound signature on the demo unit, it turned out to be different on mine!
I enjoyed some bass punch, and the demo unit ones are just the right amount, compared to DT1350 and T50p. Mine now... OMG the bass was really punchy (neither too tight nor too loose, but in a lot of quantity).
Mids are still the Beyer house signature. Sit right at the middle, nor forward nor deep inside. Treble is well controlled so far I hear, with some splashes here and there but it's not really sibilant (due to being too warmed by the bass, I suspect). Staging is fairly good, okay-good kinda type with enough left-right and forward-deep positioning.
One thing for sure, to my taste, I'd prefer to reduce the bass. In my case, by using the Line Out on iBasso DX50 (which increased the clarity and reduce the bass impact of the source). Even that, the bass is still quite punchy.
This porta-HP isolates quite well, and the cable length is of sufficient length on outdoor use. Well, time to experience more burn-in to find out if anything changes!

To my T51p seem to have much better dynamic compare with DT1350 and T50p, better bass and treble extension, while DT1350 still maintaining a flat and extremely detail headphone.

Just got my self a pair of dx160 since my xp1 died on me after the warranty period. How long do I need to burn in? Also it sounds a lot louder on my ipod rather than my Xperia tablet z2. But most of the time I'm using the z2 as I have spotify on it. How do I improve the sounds of my tablet z2? Why ipod can sound way more louder?

burn in is really a prespective thing, nothing concrete to prove it

z2 might have a weaker amp than ipod, as ipod is a dedicated player and z2 is an AIO smartphone, you want better loudness, then get players with eq and gain function, like the app poweramp for android, but i'm not sure how much will it detour the original sound of the DX160

After much deliberation, I have decided to let go of my Beyerdynamic T1. It will be missed and it will mark my exit from the Beyer clan after selling off my T5p as I started to use the more convenient custom IEM's for portable use a few years back.

Damn, I also had the T1 a couple years back and sold it off as well. Looks like you're almost on the full planar swing soon tongue.gif

And the price is great too, even better than buying on head-fi FS threads for those interested out there. The packaging provided by Beyerdynamic T1 puts the HD800 packaging to shame.

How does the Beyer T1 sounds if compared to headphones like HD650, Hifiman HE5, Alessandro MS PRO, Shure SRH840, or DT770 Pro 250ohm. These are the only headphones that I still vividly remember the sound.

Does the T1 really need good amp to shine, for example if plug it on mobile players it'll sound horrible like that.

I don't think any audiophile cans above 32 Ohms should be driven directly from an iPhone without an amplifier. Even if it is a DT770 running at 250 Ohms. You will get volume but not the dynamics to truly showcase what the headphone is capable of. The T1 is a very capable headphone and with a high current amp. You'll be in audio nirvana. If your budget permits. The WA7 and the T1 is a match made in heaven.

The T1 runs rounds round the SRH840. The HE6 however. Is a different story. If I could keep only one headphone for home use exclusively. I would opt for the HE6. But that would be exclusively for home use. Because the HE either needs to be driven by seriously powerful headphone amps or speaker amps. The cheapest headphone amp that I know that can drive the HE6 is the HiFiMan EF6 which is USD1,499. Along with the Cavali Audio Liquid Gold USD4,000 ALO Studio Six USD3,900 and the RSA Darkstar USD3,999 to name a few. Or speaker amps. So you get the idea that the HE6 is exclusively for home use. But if I were to only have one headphone for the do it all in terms of desktop and travel then it would be one of the Audezes.
But in terms of the SQ, the T1 has a very good soundstaging and sounds oh so good for live songs and live recordings. The HE6 however has a speaker like presentation to it. That you see many guys who win the HE6 are actually HiFi Guys for them to use at night because they can't listen to their speakers at night.
But I wouldn't recommend the HE6 unless you really know what you're doing. Amping the HE6 is a nightmare. And it was for me too in the beginning.

Boss, the T1 would do you fine. Just make sure you get a nice amp like Schiit Asgard II or something similair and you'll be fine.

Btw the SRH840 can go bury itself against the Beyer and HiFiMan. Haha. laugh.gif

Yea.. same headphone, different build, different price. I do not see why anyone would buy that over a T1 at the same price. You're just buying the diamond dust that comes with it an not for any increase in SQ.

Welcome to the club =D
The deal that current offered for Beyerdynamic COP malaysia is pretty amazing, there aren't any much competition going on for Made in Germany and custom sound slider in the same range.

Yea, just got one for my gf, surprisingly the sound is quite good, it is less open and airy compare with DX120, however it is pretty balance and slightly lean towards bass frequency.

How does the sound signature compare to other IEMs within Rm169 budget ? Thinking of getting 1, ignoring the mic function. The review link given on Jaben side was quite general on it.

It is a steal for RM169, even selling at RM299, i still prefer this over the well reviewed klipsch s4.
MMX102 has much natural and balance signature, the enhancement of mid bass is there, aggressive sound performance without going for V-shape tuning.

Which one should I get, Beyerdynamic DT 770 32ohm or Beyerdynamic DT 770 80ohm?

Source: I plan to use it with both my smartphone and laptop as sources. I usually prefer not to use amps as it's too much of a hassle to carry it around (can't walk around with too much stuff in your pockets, man).

The dilemma here is that the 80ohm have velour pads while the 32ohm version uses pleather pads. Despite knowing that the 32ohm suits my needs better, I want to buy the 80ohm for its comfy velour pads. From what I have read, the pillow-like, extremely comfortable velour pads are one of the main features of the beyer dt770 that people keeps bringing up.

Also, some people say that the 80ohm version works just fine unamped if listening at low volumes. How low is low volume? I usually listen to music at 70% loudness to prevent hearing damage.

IMHO, if you care about loudness only, then 80 ohm works just fine. If you care about the dynamics, proper amping and stuffs, then 32 Ohm might suit you better. Well, either way, it'd be very very good if you could test it out in the store, since you'd wanna know how much your laptop/smartphone output is.

hmm, DT770 itself isn't an easy to drive well headphone. Definitely need an amp to excel no matter which version. If you are planning to use it by direct plug in, why DT770? smile.gif
A RM300 portable headphone might do a better job.

There are too many options for headphones out there. But since you have chosen Beyerdynamic at first, I will give my recommendation base on Beyer as well.
For direct plug in, if you don't mind on ear headphone, can try DTX501p. Small, foldable but comfortable for wearing. It has very powerful and tight bass, good clarity for mid and treble. It mean for portable, definitely easier to drive than DT770.

If you want a higher range headphone instead of DTX501p, can also consider custom one pro. Though I still suggest to drive custom one pro with at least a DAC/amp. It is easier to drive than DT770 but not easy to be drive well. A COP that is not being drive well will sound a little empty in mids, music body is not very solid, and muddy in details. If you do find that the COP sounds like what I mentioned just now during your audition, then it's not being drive well. smile.gif

hi all sifus here,

I hv just got myself the Beyer T1 and wow~ the sound quality is reali impressive... i am coming from an Akg k701.

However, one thing that i am slightly dissatisfied with is its mid which i would prefer it to be more forward. K701 is just so good with this~

With my current setup of Asus xonar E1 muse --> little dot mk3(stock tube) --> T1.

Am i able to bring the mid further forward just by changing the amp? tube change?

Hi there, yes you can try Solid State amps. Tube amps are normally more laid back.

T1 is a very high range and good headphone but not easy to drive well. Actually your amp would not be able to drive both K701 and T1 well.
Headfi is more about a system. Using T1 and E1 muse, little dot mk3 is actually bottleneck.
I auditioned little dot mk3 before, it's quite entry level even for big cans like K701, hd600, dt880 and so on.
If you were to keep your T1, you have to spend much more on amp for it to excel. (to a listenable stage, you probably have to spend at least RM2k+-3k+ for the amp or higher)

You can always stick back to K701, upgrade your current amp. You won't be surprise, K701 can actually sound so much better than T1 on your current system.

Tube amp is depends on design. Not all tube amps are laid back, warm and muddy. Also depending on the tubes you use. A tube amp can be fast and a solid state can be slow as well. smile.gif

Yes, It is the Premium edition, as Pro edition doesn't have the name plate, the headband was from Pro version, as the premium edition headband doesn't last long compare with the pro edition headband.

But from what I see from other review, what makes Premium special over Pro , the most important is the headband that makes it more comfortable than Pro headband?

Then other is just the cable , Pro version is coiled , Premium is sleek, then Pro version is inked on the cup and Premium is use name plate.

Is nowadays new stock of Premium all changed to use Pro version headband by Beyerdynamic themselves , or user change the premium headband to pro headband himself?

I have both of them, here are my opinions,

1) For comfortable wise, the different won't be that much, both offered equal about of comfortable, the headband from Premium might provide slightly softer feeling, however don't worry about it, as Pro version won't cause any painful to the top of your head.

2) Personal taste for the cable, there are pros and cons for straight and coiled cable.

3) Most people changed to Pro version of headband, as the premium version doesn't last long, and it will get sticky over time.

Hope they answered your questions. =D

Yup , totally same as what others said. I like headphone with nice comfort, my head is quite sensitive to even a slight bit of discomfort. Didn't get any headphone that I can use non-stop for 4 hours above. I owned q701, ms2i, AD900X ... not satisfy with the comfort :/ not really like senheinser ... so comes to dt880 , since premium comfort is better than pro , so I hunting for premium , but after deeper search, found pro version last longer ... hmm

so after premium changed the headband , there is no longer any different in the clamping force?

The comfortable is just slightly better in premium version, however the good thing about DT series is their overall headphone design don't focus on single pressure point.
yeap clamping force is the same.

might be dacport giving a sound that doesnt match well with T90, DACPort is quite a bright DAC Amp in a cigar tube size, maybe find some "true" tube amp? Beyer works fine with tubes to showcase the vocals
