i would recommend the tiny tube DAC/Amp for DT880/250. however if your main purpose is for gaming, i'm not sure how suitable it would be.

ahhh like that the TTD would do fine. you know that you need a LOD and a mini -> RCA interconnect too right, to use the TTD with your ipod.

and one more thing to point out is that in this case where

ipod->TTD->dt880/250,

you're still using the internal DAC of the ipod and not the DAC on the TTD.

Ah thanks. Do you know how the Govibe Peak is with it? Also, is it possible to use the TTD as an amp without the DAC on a computer? Or is it possible to use Dolby Headphone with the TTD on my PC?

Thanks biggrin.gif

Peak has a V shape sound, with bass emphasis. with the bass boost on, it leaks into the mids.

it is possible to use TTD just as an amp without going through the DAC (TTD has a line in function) but it would probably sound better using the DAC in the TTD than your onboard soundcard.

Dolby headphones with TTD is not possible as TTD only supports 2.0 sound.

if you have any further questions regarding the TTD, please drop me a PM to discuss.

I had a short audition (15 mins) of the T1/Portatube+ combo and Burson/T1 combo....at the AV Show....was noisy so hard to get a good assessment but initial impression was the Porta/T1 combo was more to my liking...

if you like the T1/portatube combo, then don't bother with the lyr. Go with the WA2 combo or other tube amps.

T1 Burson is a bad match trust me. I really doubted the reviews here now.
It makes the both ends edgy. Even Portatube+ is much better and smoother.
*
i don't think the T1 + Burson 160 / Soloist is that bad a match. the Burson amp lacks a little body, making the T1 sounds a little thinnish but if you're looking for a very clean and precise sound, the 160 or soloist will give you that precision and it wouldn't be dry by any means.

If T1 pairs well with Tubes, I guess maybe T70 too? Tryin to find a "value" tube for my T70 as well. Tired of driving it straight out of Dacport LX.

if you are looking for the tube sound, most beyers do pretty well with tube amps.

shocking.gif So poisonous are the tube amps?

only if you like warm mids. otherwise you'd find them to be colored with all sorts of shades.

its up to your individual taste. by colored in shades i mean that you won't achieve neutrality, transparency with tubes. not impossible to achieve though, with careful tube rolling and matching, you can still achieve neutrality.

main drawbacks of tubes: loss of PRaT, treble roll-off, lack of bass depth, loss of details and placement.

advantages: musicality, naturality, smoothness and lushness of sound.

i listen to everything with tubes, pop, rock, jazz, metal, orchestras etc etc. ultimately, its what kind of sound you are looking for.

Try Fostex HP-A8 32bit DAC + amp. It drives quite beautifully just that I cant find enough gain that time.
*
sorry but i must respectfully say that the HP-A8 is a much much better DAC than amp although the amp is Jaben KL is practically brand new and probably needs a couple of hundred hours to run in although i doubt it will sound like much.

Antelope Zodiac Gold with Voltikus PSU or make do with a Fostex HP-A8.
