I know there is a few such thread and I have read them thoroughly...

and have also tested both the cans

and know first hand that

880 = neutral good mid, not so good high and low, and bass doesnt have that wide feeling

990 = good high good low, not so good mid, bass have that wide feeling

have been considering for 2 months and have been going to the shop to test for more than 10 times.....

very difficult to decide would like to hear some opinion and advise from long time users

bottom is.....

i quite like 990 with the wide open bass feel... but the highs are a bit too strong and mid is not good

on the 880 i like the mid and high but the low just doesnt have that wide open sound that I am looking for like in the 990

they are not cheap cans, that's why I have been considering for so long....

I'm using Fiio E7 right now. I feel that the bass are kind of lacking in terms of layering and body. I also felt the treble aren't as clear, it's not transparent enough. I'm more of the detail freak than bass freak, but I'm still both. I also never forget the sound of the MS Pro and HE5, it's like magic. I hope can find an amp that can bring out this headphone to the potential because I liked the noise isolation it offers. If not I have to upgrade headphones....

There are 2 issues you are facing assuming you do have a really good source (FLAC, ALAC etc) in the first place.

The FiiO E7 at 16bits/48kHz is one and the Beyerdynamic DT770 being closed is another.

Is your Beyerdynamic DT770 the 250ohm version hmm.gif

Yeah it's the 250ohm version.

Weird, I plugged the beyer directly to the iphone5, I feel the sound is much better than using the fiio E7 with laptop running the same song.

You got any DAC? line out from that DAC will do wink.gif

not a stand alone one....
but if you connect the fiio e07k to the e09k the fomer becomes a DAC.....
but both are still DAC + amp....

consider a few amp and dac before i bought that.... (nwavguy 02, magni modi, hifiman ef 5 ef 2a......except for the first one the rest are not available on local market)
cause wanted something portable and desktop which can connect headphone and my speaker
and not that expensive below RM1k for both
and available in Japan
also with not too bad of a review

But you're still bypassing the internal amp irregardless and that matters when you're pairing it with a seperate amp.

Although the products you listed above are not available locally, that doesn't mean you should only opt for locally available products only (they are cheaper sometimes to buy it direct from the international market and shipped it here). Just make sure the voltage specifications are correct and you're good to go wink.gif

The T1 is considered a semi open or open cans? hmm.gif

I wonder.. would it be worth it to save up for a pair of TOTL headphone such as the T1?

What amp should be capable of driving it?

How much are we looking at total?

Audiophile Tesla Hi-Fi headphones, semi-open

most people would invest in dac/amp in at least equal, if not greater than the headphone's value which by itself is about 4-5k itself iinm? so maybe about 10k or so in total?
never really look into amps that can drive the T1 myself since i wasn't that interested in it as i still prefer full open cans. however general consensus is that most prefer tube amps or at least warm signature solid states to drive their T1's smile.gif

I see I see thanks for your opinion bro notworthy.gif

I am currently just a mid-fier with mid-fi level rig.

Probably in the future, id wanna invest more in this, hopefully with an increasing buying power tongue.gif

Its either the T1 or HD800.. but then the dac/amp thing is another factor to consider sweat.gif

was checking out the Schiit Bifrost and Valhalla, pricing rclxub.gif

oooh the hd800 is yet another beast, people can easily invest double or even triple the price of the can itself because the hd800 is among the only can i know that does this "what you feed in is what you get", meaning the better the amp, the better the headphone excels. oh and it's a full open can too wink.gif

It depends on how much you want to spend really as there are different "flavours" as to how people want their HD800/T1 to sound. Of course tube amps have been popular for the both of them and especially those models that are output transformer-less such as Woo Audio WA2 or Decware CSP2+ (most good amps, you are likely to buy it overseas and have them ship it here though).

Also, don't disregard solid state amps as "most" of them are actually quite decent in terms of their quality once you reached a certain level and models such as Schiit Mjolnir, Bryston BHA-1, Burson Soloist/Conductor are pretty good as well.

Funny thing I used to own the T1 last year and didn't enjoy the high's reproduction as I found it rather harsh (in my opinion) and have numerous changes over time until now tongue.gif
