if highrise >>>>> yes same like phone cable (use vdsl)

if lowrise (means house or ground level) >>>>> fiber.. not same

also i agree with u... cable always better than wireless or homeplug..

sometimes homeplug is ok for like iptv...etc
but if u got choice, always cable first... cable got best lag.. best speed best everything

Then I may ignore the tv box so i won't put it nearby TV, as I seldom watch TV.

@jack2, do you have LAN cable to your TV area?
if yes then install all the stuff in the bedroom and just need 1 LAN to IPTV box.
if not then just need to get home plug to connect to TV area.
else...just ignore the IPTV...just use it as pure internet access only.

For me...i install the BTU in the bedroom, then LAN cable down to TV area. router and all installed near TV... then LAN cable up to bedroom for my PC tongue.gif

it starting to get annoying when my Unifi got disconnected at the same time (7.30 pm, 10.30 pm and dawn time) everyday. I paid my bills and i don't see whatever maintenance is going on.

I think its time to call them up for explanation.

Btw guys, if the modem and router is starting to make that noise (a soft sharp noise), does it indicate hardware problem in the future?

Lol, I'm trying to pay my bill on Unifi portal (https://occ.unifi.my) and the site is slow as hell, IRONY? For an internet company, they're a freaking DISGRACE, maybe using some cheap host in Bahamas. Well, nothing more to expect from a company run by clowns.

Theoretical max speed for VIP5 / 5Mb line is 625 KB/s. If you get higher (usually at the start of downloads), it's usually because the "limiter" hasn't kicked in and thus, you basically get VIP10/20 speeds.

EDIT: I can max VIP5 speeds no problem in Selangor

Folks
For what it's worth this is my experience with Unifi, post-installation

Switched from Streamyx(after enduring the constant line drop-off & crappy speed) to Unifi VIP5 last week.

Initial impression:
Very happy with the speed coming from Streamyx. Download is great now

Downside:
While cable connection is good wireless signal/stability is just awful. My web pages couldn't load completely or at all while the wired PC just sailed through(using the same web pages doing a side by side comparison)

Resolution:
I went thorough the following troubleshooting steps(in no particular order)

1. Change the DNS
2. Change the wireless channel(largely a trial and error exercise)
3. Change the wireless mode (n/b/g to b/g)
4. Call Unifi helpline which ended with Step #3(again)

The final & probably the step that nailed the problem was to change the router to a TP-Link (model TL-WR1043ND). I can now say that the wireless issue is resolved rclxms.gif The stock Unifi router D-Link DIR-615 is consigned to scrap

Another plus point for Unifi is that I can now get very good coverage in a double storey house without the use of Powerline adapter.
