QUOTE(3AAA @ Mar 22 2006, 01:10 AM)
I can't tell which brand is better to buy because I've never seen most of it running before.

I can comment about the brand train that I have. My first train set was Tyco (which I think is no longer producing trains). Don't know how much it was bought for because my dad bought it. The second set that I have is Bachmann (As the one running in the picture). I bought this set for about RM500 after converting it to MYR. This model is nice, have no problem, but I like the Tyco one better because it uses a rare type of motor which is very silent. The tyco one is also more reallistic.

As mention earlier, the scale train that I have is HO scale (1/87 ratio), which I think is a nice scale to have (not too big and not too small). N scale ratio is 1/160 and the G scale ratio is about 1/23.

As for the train tracks, I have 3 different type. One is made out of brass, the other is made out of steel, and the third type is made out of Nickel Silver. The best choice to get is Nickel Silver, because so far, the Nickel Silver track that I have never got rusted, and it is much easier to clean comparing with the other type of tracks that I have.

There many brand to choose from, such as Life-Like, Model Power, Norscot. To me, I think any brand is about the same within the same price range.

maybe this is a stupid question lah... here's the scenarion, if we buy brand ABC train sets can we use brand XYZ tracks with the earlier ABC train sets?

wow, nice setup. and nice layout space you got there.

due to the christchurch's quake my package for the hornby r609 3rd radius curved tracks are delayed till next week. that's why my current 3rd radius looks a bit weird. yup it's a very nice space i have on the mezannie floor in my studio apartment. don't think so i can have such space backhome in seremban smile.gif

i'm running 2 power controller; DC and DCC on this layout. will try installing few point motors but still trying to figure out how to power it because DCC point decoder is way too expensive and only limit to 4 motors

took this pic this morning much better than last night

QUOTE(Nil Einne @ Mar 22 2011, 04:10 PM)
Hi,

Do you know if any of the Hyper Guardian Plarail sets are sold in Malaysia? I mean like
http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/plarail/hyper/index.htm
http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/plara...0_pte/index.htm

Or alternatively the Tomy (UK) HyperCity Rescue line which appears to be the same thing http://www.tomy.co.uk/products/toys-and-ga...percity-rescue/ (the HyperCity line in general appears to include generic Plarail stuff)

I guess this is what you mean Power Ranger type crossover (although it's more like Transformers to me). I've looked in a few Parksons and MetroJaya in KL but not found. Haven't looked in Mid Valley yet. I just found out Litt Tak had warehouse sale 10-13 March sadly found out too late and I'm leaving Malaysia in a few weeks. I asked Litt Tak if it is available here, dunno if they will reply or not.

I know can get from eBay and also Japanese online store but shipping can be expensive for big items like that so if available here and is not too high markup is good. (It's not available in New Zealand or if it is it's only for a very high price although the Hypercity could appear some time in the future since it's still fairly new in the UK and things like that often take a while to come to NZ).

Cheers

yup nz is very the slow and most of the times kind a overpriced too

QUOTE(aril^spawn @ Mar 22 2011, 10:14 PM)
i oso have 2 set of starter kit for HO scale..but its back in the box..no space to setup the train..

1 set is HORNBY flying scotsman..another one is TRIX DB train set... and lots of extra cars,coaches.. ++ alot of tracks..

dont know where to setup the train..wish i could have a space just like u!..ahahaha blush.gif
*
just get a 8'x4' plywood that will do smile.gif
i've started with hornby set but now i'm feeling hornby is way overpriced especially over here in nz. so for locomotives i only buy from bachmann and rolling stocks i'll go with cheaper brand such as modelpower or life-like then change the all the wheels to steel wheels. trying to avoid hornby rolling stocks as the some of them can't change the coupler!

thomas and friends hohoho... my son loves it so much. still cant find a reasonable secondhand price of thomas and friends ultimate set smile.gif

didn't login into lowyat so long too busy with my trains. just added a new turntable and now all my trains can go back to their engine shed. too bad i can't have any landscape/scenery as i'm living in a rented property. tracks are mostly hornby and locomotives all bachmann. hornby locomotives way too expensive when it comes to digital train. bachmann is more reasonable and affordable.

there's 1 forumer in garage sales selling hornby set... he's in shah alam try nego with him.

haiyah takara tomy cannot lah! just go with hornby or bachmann. avoid marklin... they are much2 more expensive than hornby smile.gif

thanks !
hehe

just now i went to dai kong shop
the seller said piko starter pack is around rm 800

worth buying ?
*
i've been there once before with my wife and kids. very friendly and helpful seller. the shop located near dewan bahasa dan pustaka. i would prefer buying from daikong than that BSC shop.

my advise to you start with something basic and try not to exceed rm500. you still don't know yet will you like it or not. i bought my beginner set secondhand and it was rm140. rm800 you can do a lot of things lah boss in model railroad.

i'll be back in kl in august and i'll be bringing back 20pcs of flexi track (1m in length each and flexible so can bend make into curves)

is that piko starter pack digital?

once you are into model railroad you'll spend lots of $$$ on points (intersection on track) in the beginning so you need to choose wisely. 1 hornby point with motorized unit can easily cost you at least rm150 each if you order from bangsar. go to amazon.com and search for life-like remote switch... after convert rm45 each only and it's motorized and i'm using them at the moment

yea very informative.. at one point he mentioned he sold train sets back in 1996 .. wow... such a long time already haha
wat.. rm 140 so cheap ? hmmm.. problem is very very hard to find ppl selling this kinda things... even in garage sales only got one.. that oso rm 500 already

amazon ? scared later paid... but wont receive goods.. sad.gif
somemore its overseas ...

hehe
u have any train sets u dowan ? if got i wan buy tongue.gif
oh and the set he quoted me is analog if not mistaken
*
amazon safe lah boss smile.gif

the reason why i asked you to get a basic beginner set is because later you'll definitely start getting trains and rolling stocks from other brands. my digital locomotives are all bachmann and i bought all of them from 1 ebay seller called "thefavoritespot". he's the cheapest in ebay and you need to compete with so many ppl but yet in the end still so much cheaper than retail.

why don't you try search online see any shops in singapore?

analog if you wanna control few trains at a same time using 1 controller you need to isolate some tracks kind a complicated. not only that, if you turn on all trains run at the same time and if you turn off all trains stop. speed wise all same also. unlike dcc, 1 bachmann dcc controller can control up to 10 trains with different direction and various speed. but again 1 digital locomotive cost about rm140 (including postage) each if you get it from that ebay seller and ships back to msia. for sure you can't get that price with a digital train in msia especially with that bangsar shop smile.gif

sorry bro i got no extra train set for sale. i got quite a number of secondhand analog trains but not selling them. i need them on the layout to make it look like a very busy train station smile.gif

hai everyone..... i would like to start my collection.... just asking n or ho better to start with

for me n-scale a bit too small lah... cannot feel smile.gif but it doesn't need big space for a nice layout unlike ho-scale. another thing you should consider probably which scale can easily buy from shops

not sure about the n-scale pricing in msia but here in auckland n-scale just slightly cheaper than HO only. most shops here have plenty of HO in stock but still can easily get n-scale

noted bro.... the best brand?

is it possible to control multiple trains using only one controller(is it digital train)
*
hmmm actually i also just got started about 5 months ago and still learning at the moment. i started with hornby but now i stop buying hornby products because too expensive lah. if possible ,aybe you should try find bachmann brand instead

i did tested using an analog controller to power up 3 different basic loops running 3 trains. about 15mins later the controller shutdown.. overheat smile.gif when i asked around i was told not to do that as i might kaboom the controller... so i'm not going to do that again. i don't konw much about analog/DC

as for digital DCC... if you are using hornby select unit with the default 1amp power adapter you only can run 3-4 trains. if you upgrade to 4amp power adapter you can run 8-10 trains
