Yeah ... I have been to BSC too sometime ago ...... very limited and pricy too (prefer ebay). Dai Kong (near dewan pustaka) mostly have Piko train sets (HO scale) but quite reasonable.
I heard there is one shop in 1 utama ......... any idea?
cheers ...... wink.gif

12 years ago there was a shop in 1utama, next to jusco entrance. it was like love at first sight with those model railways but financially totally out of my reach during that time.
perhaps there's another new shop in 1utama now?

but quite true about that shop in BSC... super bloody expensive!

bro, how to hand over those bachmann couplers to you?

hi all.. i just bought a roco dcc strter set at funderland. got no sound n other function. can someone share how to upgrade it..

btw my name is naim n stay at ss19
*
you need to get a dcc sound decoder + speaker. before you can do so you need to check how much space your have underneath for speaker. placing the speaker is a little bit tricky in a tight space

Hi there. Usually how much the starter set for HO & N scale?
Just looking around for few days. Most of the set I found cost at least RM1k above. If there any other cheaper set?
Hope to learn from the old timers here.
Thanks.
*
shops around kl will quote almost around that amount for an analogue starter set. if get elsewhere outside malaysia can get cheaper but the problem is kalau kena tax it will end up expensive. another cheaper option is try to ask other forumers here for secondhand set

like i always explained in the forum, if you have extra budget try go for digital

Thanks for your reply. Let say if I buy analog set, can I convert them to digital when have the budget or need to change the whole set?
How about Walthers brand? Found that their digital starter set quite reasonable price.
http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/Walthers-Tr...t-p/931-890.htm

p/s: Any forumer here want to letgo their train set with harga kasih sayang?
Thanks
*
that walthers set looks affordable since it's DCC digital but the problem is sure kena tax by our malaysian kastam

you can't upgrade an analog controller system to digital just like that. you need to switch the whole controller set. as for analog locomotives you can rewired them for digital with a dcc decoder. or you just plugin a dcc decoder into an existing dcc ready locomotives.

i do have tracks, locomotives, rolling stocks and analog controller to let go but i would prefer buyer pickup from my home in seremban smile.gif

I think its better if you just get one set from funderland. got mine (roco 51221) for about rm850. for a digital set, I think that's not that bad. I have seen the ones offered by dai kong. The quality is not as good as roco because they mainly sells piko brands.
*
this is from my past experiences. started with hornby analog. then upgraded to hornby select dcc. used this select model for a short time, can only control very limited number of locomotives. sold it off and bought bachmann e-z command dcc. quite happy with this e-z command controller set but it just doesn't support address more than 10. only can set address from 1-10 (10 is reserved for analog locomotive). then bought mrc prodigy advance dcc and still using it till this moment. if i have extra money in future i'll go for digitrax dcc smile.gif

i could be wrong here but my advice, starts small with a reasonable price rather than spend huge amount of money in the beginning and ended up with not liking it later

anyone here know where to get cheap tracks(switches, crossings, flexi)? been using roco geoline and its too expensive for me... T_T
*
i bought tracks once from the shop in BSC, so called hornby distributor and that was the first and the last time i'm buying anything from them again

if you are looking from cheap switches, try get model power switches from ebay. with shipping back to malaysia, still cheaper

Hi,
Good to know many railway modellers in Malaysia although this hobby is rather niche compared to RC planes and cars.

Q1: how many members here are modelling in N or HO scale?

Q2: how many have a permanent layout - room, shelf, modular, mobile layout other than putting on floor, carpet or table fot occasional display?

Q3: how many years have you been modelling and what are your main challenges in modelling?

Although i am not in Malaysia, i am keen to keep in touch with those who are or were active on their layout. I m sure there are others who keen to learn from the experienced. Btw, i am a definitely N scale modeller but could also learn from HO/OO scale modelers.

We have a Whatsapp group where we keep in touch.

QUOTE(Abie.C @ Feb 11 2015, 01:06 PM)
hi just bought a secondhand fleischmann starter set(631282).Newbie here. Just want to know if buy a loco train that have light and sound can it be run on my track. My controller is FLEISCHMANN multiMaus. Can control light and sound using the multimaus right?.
How much nornally it cost for the loco that have light and sound? Where to get it cheaper locally?
*
you should be able to control all your locos using your digital controller. unlike my older bachmann dcc controller only support 2 digital address. this means it won't recognized locos set to 3 or 4 digits address. locos with sound is quite expensive since our ringgit is so weak these days. there's a shop called funderland in kelana jaya... never been there because all my locos and tracks are back in boxes/storage. hope 1 day i will have enough space to resetup again

Been reading bout this hobby for the past few weeks and I have gotten very interested but Ive no idea how to start and what to buy. Got any sifu can share and are there anyone selling any second hand starter sets?
*
before you wanna start with model railroad, i would advice you to have 1 dedicated room for this hobby. i might have few locos to let go but all of them are in boxes at the moment smile.gif
