Hi Guys,

Most of my items , i bought it from ebay. No need to be worried about Custom. Todate all the items reach my door steps safely. No Custom tax!

Todate i have bought 92 items form ebay and will keep on buying  biggrin.gif .

Advise for a starter - Go to ebay and look for Hornby Digital train set. Very much cheaper than to buy from Hornby website.  Hornby tracks are compatible with Bachmann & Peco.

Cheer biggrin.gif s

hornby digital select is a good beginner dcc setup. i started with hornby digital select, after that upgraded to bachmann ez-command. now i'm using mrc prodigy advance 2 because it allow me to program 4 digits address according to most of my locomotives. when i have extra budget i'll get a 8amp booster for my controller.

Hi there,

You got a nice layout there. How do u control your motorpoints?

Wish can see your layout.
*
i'm using model power and hornby points/switches. a friend told me before, the company who manufacturer model power points is the same company who did atlas points. as for now my layout still not finalized yet so i didn't wired everything up yet. still waiting for my remaining items from auckland.

my yard is using hornby points, some new and some old ones. i was lucky bought a bunch of them for $1 each when i was at auckland

we should arrange a teh tarik session with everyone smile.gif

Hi Mrave/Judge,

I would also like to join for the teh tarik, if you don't mind.  I'm at Setapak/Danau Kota.

My layout is not fully ready but operational on a 4'X8' plywood .  I'm currently using ECOS system by ESU which can control both Marklin and DCC systems.

You may ask why I use both systems, simply because some locos that I like not manufactured by one brand e.g Blue Tiger which is manufactured by Mehano (Slovenia), but their three rail (Marklin) Mehano is horrible, the flange is too deep which cause derailment at curve points.

Motor points can be controlled with 12 - 15 volts AC power supply, the transformer we can buy from Pasar Road from RM20 depending on how many amperes the output current is.

Zol.

esu dcc sound decoder sounds really good and also super expensive! a friend of mine only buy esu sound decoder for his locomotives smile.gif

i'm at seremban and working at tg malim. weekend only go back to seremban. maybe on my way back can stop over somewhere near kl for teh tarik

Im comfy with British OO scale trains. The decoders and the trains are mostly compatible with each others. Most of my locos are from Hornby and Bachmann Branchline.  Most of the couplings are NEM standard. Bachmann DCC Sound locos are around RM800.00 to RM1,200.00.

Hi Mr Jugde .... quite interesting to know you know how to  convert a analog loco to DCC. I want to learned about there wiring. Cos converting a analog loco to DCC on board is much cheaper.

I use Hornby/Bachmann and Peco tracks.

Cheers  biggrin.gif

when we go teh tarik i can explain to you guys how to convert an analog locos to dcc, it's not that difficult and needs some soldering. once you understand the basic wiring it will be very fun to convert to digital and much more fun when you are going to add dcc sound decoder but sound is a little bit complicated, need to sort out space problem for speaker in the locomotive.

as for dcc decoder. i would prefer using digitrax decoder because we did some experiment in auckland on few different decoders in terms of performance, digitrax is the best choice. normally i use this digitrax n-scale decoder

i never have any experience with bachmann branchline. i do realized bachmann branchline have more details comparing to bachmann america. i'm quite used to HO sacele bachmann (america). a new bachmann (america) dcc sound onboard can get from ebay for around us98 (without shipping). we can talk more during teh tarik.

For a starter .... look for Hornby R1126 Mixed Freight DCC digital train set - incs 2 locos & wagons - GBP 170.

Hornby R1126 Mixed Freight DCC digital train set includes 2 locos wagons and digital controller.

The easy and effective way of entering the digital world of model railways.

The powerful 0-6-0 tank locomotive can make easy work of the four wagons included in this set. The Select control unit can be allocated with up to 60 locomotives and 38 points or operating accessories and is therefore ideally suited to those wish to build on this train set and gradually create a fully functioning layout.

The MidiMat included with this set can certainly help with the development of a functioning model railway with extensions being made easy with the addition of extra track packs and building packs.

Contents:

    BR 0-6-0 diesel-electric Class 08
    BR 0-6-0T Class J83 locomotive
Vent Van, Tanker and two wagons
Oval track and Track Pack A
    TrakMat 1800mm x 1200mm
    Hornby Select Digital Controller
    Wall Mounted Power Unit
    DCC Ready: DCC Fitted

Yes it is expensive...but when I compared with Marklin's Central Station #60215 at Subang Jaya's T N T shop...the price is about RM5K + ...The ECOS that I bought is about RM3K from Germany (hand carry).

I think ESU's sound decoder is one of the best except the one installed in my Blue Tiger (factory fitted by MEHANO) the sound is not loud enough for my ears...

Let me know when and where can we meet this weekend, if possible...

Added on June 14, 2012, 6:11 pm

Ravi, nice talking with you last night...hope to see you this weekend...
*
could you change the speaker in your blue tiger? the first time i heard that esu sound decoder it was like... damn i want one too but when looked at the price tag, us100 each for 1 single sound decoder+a small tiny speaker... tak jadi already. but whoever out there if have extra budget, should try get one

I've emoved the decoder/speaker and put it in a different loco, the sound is excellent, then I realised that the chamfer/speaker housing at the metal body of the loco is very shallow, very little space for the sound to resonate.  But at least ada some noise la!.

Judge, if you're stopping in KL today for few hours, SMS me 0192610512, Zol.

today first day back at work in tg malim smile.gif
5pm only can drive back to seremban. maybe we can try to arrange something early next week. don't think so it's a good idea to drive into kl today... it's friday... jam kaw2

i think during teh tarik maybe each of us can bring along a locomotive and we can exchange some knowledge smile.gif

For me I think that's the price is no much different compare to you buy from Singapore or ebay, except the local retail shop they din follow the recommended price and mark up a lot.

Added on June 16, 2012, 6:13 pm
depends on what locomotive or track you buy, price range from a few hundred to a few thousand. For a starter i will suggest buy a starter-set, can buy a cheaper one first

Added on June 16, 2012, 6:14 pm

wow!! rclxms.gif
how many trains running on that layout?

Added on June 16, 2012, 6:18 pm
For DCC, i like ROCO one, it can program until 9000++ locomotives!!!! drool.gif
But of course, I can't control that much. For me, 4 locomotives is enough already

Attached is my Delta Marklin loco I bought from Trains and Toys last year, and I replaced the decoder with Marklin mSd decoder which I bought from ebay, together I replaced the top headlight from original yellow LED to warm white LED. Enjoy!!

Do you mean can it connect to 2 controller? Yes, it can. According to ROCO, the amplifier provides 2 direct connections (master & slave) for a multiMAUS and e.g. another mouse. The amplifier prepares the 'Master mouse' data for running and switching operation. The track output delivers 3.2A. Other multiMAUS devies, RoutesControls or the interface with RocoMotion can only be connected on the 'slave' output.

maybe we can share some pics on the "intersections" from our own layout so that we can learn from each other
