shops around kl will quote almost around that amount for an analogue starter set. if get elsewhere outside malaysia can get cheaper but the problem is kalau kena tax it will end up expensive. another cheaper option is try to ask other forumers here for secondhand set

like i always explained in the forum, if you have extra budget try go for digital

Thanks for your reply. Let say if I buy analog set, can I convert them to digital when have the budget or need to change the whole set?
How about Walthers brand? Found that their digital starter set quite reasonable price.

p/s: Any forumer here want to letgo their train set with harga kasih sayang?
Thanks

that walthers set looks affordable since it's DCC digital but the problem is sure kena tax by our malaysian kastam

you can't upgrade an analog controller system to digital just like that. you need to switch the whole controller set. as for analog locomotives you can rewired them for digital with a dcc decoder. or you just plugin a dcc decoder into an existing dcc ready locomotives.

i do have tracks, locomotives, rolling stocks and analog controller to let go but i would prefer buyer pickup from my home in seremban smile.gif

Thanks for the info bos. I used to buy toys from Japan and the tax is 10%.
How about the Walthers quality? Looks like this brand not so famous.
Your items for sale is in set or individual part? Can PM me the details?
Thanks

I think its better if you just get one set from funderland. got mine (roco 51221) for about rm850. for a digital set, I think that's not that bad. I have seen the ones offered by dai kong. The quality is not as good as roco because they mainly sells piko brands.

this is from my past experiences. started with hornby analog. then upgraded to hornby select dcc. used this select model for a short time, can only control very limited number of locomotives. sold it off and bought bachmann e-z command dcc. quite happy with this e-z command controller set but it just doesn't support address more than 10. only can set address from 1-10 (10 is reserved for analog locomotive). then bought mrc prodigy advance dcc and still using it till this moment. if i have extra money in future i'll go for digitrax dcc smile.gif

i could be wrong here but my advice, starts small with a reasonable price rather than spend huge amount of money in the beginning and ended up with not liking it later

I'm sure there are other sets. if you are low on budget, why not pick up an analogue set? I belive its around rm500 only at funderland. maybe cheaper at dai kong.

i bought tracks once from the shop in BSC, so called hornby distributor and that was the first and the last time i'm buying anything from them again

if you are looking from cheap switches, try get model power switches from ebay. with shipping back to malaysia, still cheaper

My solution to space constraint:

http://german160.wordpress.com/2012/12/31/...ut-contruction/

http://german160.wordpress.com/2013/09/18/...-the-benchwork/

http://german160.wordpress.com/2013/09/23/...outs-in-action/

http://german160.wordpress.com/2013/09/20/...actually-works/

I have done my homework and will now contruct it. Max size that one modeller has made it was 5 x 9ft. My opinion standard 4 x 8ft will do and easily available in Msia. Go for better grade plywood.
