Purchased a Piko steam engine starter set for my autistic son. He's really into trains.. he draws train, watch train in youtube, he creates designs railway layout in Train Simulator software, do trains using lego etc. We purchased numerous number, I lost count, of the plastic train toys. At the moment there two plastic train sets, I think we have thrown more than 50 sets. Anyway.. he's into steam trains only.. not diesel or electric.

I think he can spend the whole day enjoying some of you guys fantastic setup. I get to know about the local shops selling these kind of trains from this thread. TQ guys. Initially I thought of getting a hornby set online but I think it's better if I can see & test it physically. I knew about hornby because my late grandfather have a set of mallard hornby & played with it when I was 6-7 yrs old. Dunno what happened to the set.

Contemplated to purchase the digital upgradeable starter set but I'm not sure how my son will take care of it and it is expensive in the first place. He normally take a great care of his stuff but I just don't want to take the risk. If he really likes it then maybe I can add tracks and caboose later. I also checked out the shop at Paradigm mall & they have cool stuff but the one in Dai Kong is more affordable.

you need to get a dcc sound decoder + speaker. before you can do so you need to check how much space your have underneath for speaker. placing the speaker is a little bit tricky in a tight space

I think you're out of luck. I've not come across anyone stocking Kato or other Japanese branded train models in Malaysia.
I get my Japanese models from Hobby Search (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/rail/). It was decently priced until the recent MYR currency weakening.

I have been looking around website that sells Kato brands in Malaysia. Too bad to heard no ones stocking Kato/ japanese brand N scale train. I will have to look up in other countries like s'pore, hong kong, china and japan.

Hi there. Usually how much the starter set for HO & N scale?
Just looking around for few days. Most of the set I found cost at least RM1k above. If there any other cheaper set?
Hope to learn from the old timers here.
Thanks.

shops around kl will quote almost around that amount for an analogue starter set. if get elsewhere outside malaysia can get cheaper but the problem is kalau kena tax it will end up expensive. another cheaper option is try to ask other forumers here for secondhand set

like i always explained in the forum, if you have extra budget try go for digital
