Hi,
Good to know there are members who are into model trains. I thought I am the "weird" kind, you know .... those that give you the look when you mention you plan with model trains.
Anyway, I agree that model trains are expensive, more so if they are sold here. The exchange rate is already a killer. Hence, I usually order from the Internet and pray hard that the postman dun sabo it.
I am into N-scale (1:160) due to its small but manageable size and I could run a larger layout with it. Again, you need space to run trains. As I am now living in Germany, space is a premium but I found a solution. IKEA Ivar shelf makes a good benchwork for layout and hope to work on mine soon. I have moved from US railroad to German railroad.
If anyone wants to keep in touch, please message me.
Btw, there is a railway fan club - virtually but also meet for trips or train-spotting. Check out www.ktmrailwayfan.com.
For those looking for model trains, can check out Trains & Toys in USJ9 or Dai-Kong (www.dai-kong.com) near Dewan Bahasa.

QUOTE(judge-the @ Sep 9 2013, 03:45 PM) my 3rd radius (hornby 609) are too tight so can't run this athearn metrolink (white color) on my home layout, decided to display them on a DiY shelf really hope 1 day i have more. more and more space! My solution to space constraint: http://german160.wordpress.com/2012/12/31/...ut-contruction/ http://german160.wordpress.com/2013/09/18/...-the-benchwork/ http://german160.wordpress.com/2013/09/23/...outs-in-action/ http://german160.wordpress.com/2013/09/20/...actually-works/I have done my homework and will now contruct it. Max size that one modeller has made it was 5 x 9ft. My opinion standard 4 x 8ft will do and easily available in Msia. Go for better grade plywood.

QUOTE(mrave07 @ Jan 29 2013, 08:03 PM) Bro Judge ...... What coupling r u using for your trains? Hornby couplings are not really good. I need to change some of the couplings for my locos. Any suggestions? Dapol UK sells knuckle couplers for 00 scale n for NEM 355 sockets - N n HO scale.

Hi, Good to know many railway modellers in Malaysia although this hobby is rather niche compared to RC planes and cars.
Q1: how many members here are modelling in N or HO scale?
Q2: how many have a permanent layout - room, shelf, modular, mobile layout other than putting on floor, carpet or table fot occasional display?
Q3: how many years have you been modelling and what are your main challenges in modelling?
Although i am not in Malaysia, i am keen to keep in touch with those who are or were active on their layout. I m sure there are others who keen to learn from the experienced. Btw, i am a definitely N scale modeller but could also learn from HO/OO scale modelers.
We have a Whatsapp group where we keep in touch.
