I see, then maybe it's not the best plan for 1 week's usage.

BTW, I have a question here. Since we will be arriving on Saturday morning 9am at DMK, and the hotel check-in is at 2pm, rather than going to town to leave the luggage, would it be possible that we go directly to Chatuchak first, since it's very nearby to DMK? But with the condition that we can get a place to park our luggage at the MRT or BTS station there. Anybody know about this?

Thanks

Guys when I was in Bangkok I went to the floating market..

and guess what .. I was conned.

the best part is the taxi driver was in the same group as the con ppl.

we (total of 4 persons) , each have to pay RM250 for a boat ride and taxi ride ...

NEVER EVER trust the taxi man when he say 100 baht to and fro from hotel to floating market then to grand palace.

its a scam..

Sorry to hear that. That's awful. Heard there's lots of scam with the transports (taxi and boat) at the floating markets so I never went to any of them.

I have not used 'Mama Tour' before, but it was mentioned earlier in the thread as being reliable. They have a few combinations of local tours to floating markets for as low as 600 baht per person. Check out their Facebook page by google.

what is the best phone network for data & call for 1week?

it's better if u take either DTAC or Truemove for 3G data.
in BKK, AIS sucks big time because of the carrier (W900)

Amphawa is worth the trip. wub.gif

Just take a bus from Victory Monument to Maeklong. If you want to, you can stay a little while and take a look at the Train Market. It was fun to see how quick the market people packed up their stuff when then train comes in and how quick things turn back to normal when the train passed by.

After that, you can take a songthaew to Amphawa and enjoy the floating market. When we were there, we only walked on the side street and bought food from the boats that stopped there. We didn't get on a boat to go to the canals/river so I can't tell you how much it'd cost you.

Also, we were there in 2010 and back then, things and food were very cheap at Amphawa market coz they catered to the locals. I hope things are still the same. tongue.gif

Anyway, just a tip, get your hotel people to write the names of the places you'd like to go on a piece of paper so you can just show the locals at the bus station which bus you'd want to get on.

haha.. yiivei.. u can still go to Damnoek .. but try other alternatives.. hotels do provide day tours to floating markets and if i'm not mistaken is around 300 baht for 2 person .. taaxi+boat ride.. so its much more affordable.. other than that.. you can also take the bus there ..

All in all... my experience on the boat ride is really good despite the scam..

You can order food where they pass it to you via a long pole.. etc etc...

You can experience live action of the marketing that local peeps do..

However, just becareful of some well-known scams.. icon_rolleyes.gif

Google is still your best friend to get the info smile.gif

No BTS though, but there's direct shuttle bus service from Mo Chit BTS station as per the website.
