Currently the best exchange rate I've seen is 10.12 at Best Rate, Sungai Wang. I saw one with 10.10 but they ran out of THB. Has anyone seen any better rate?
*
Hi was wondering if the said rate is for RM1= Baht 10.12 or RM10.12 = baht 100 ?
I got mine in BKK for Rm1 = baht 9.92

I got screwed by the gem scam before in BKK cry.gif

Were you going to MBK? I encountered the same. Tuktuk offered 20baht to go MBK, so friendly and all then half way he stopped at roadside and begged me to go to the gem store coz he will have petrol/voucher given, begging me to 'help' him. I read so much of the gem store scam online so I stood firmly I said no a thousand times and ignored him. Then he started scolding in Thai and threw us out. Almost every cab we flagged had eyes lit up when I said MBK (all wanted to make that stupid gem store stop). In the end I offered a cab 100baht and made him promise no stupid stop.

Do share your story with us!

Hi,i will go to bangkok on next year~ hv to start do some research and planning everything...any nice place must go to visit? this is my 1st time travel to bangkok...i heard my fren said that there ppl treat u unfriendly if u dont know thai language..izzit? they dont know english so how to communicate with them? must follow tour cant walk myself? thanks~
*
Thai people are very friendly/smiley and most of them at least know some basic english. Minority who don't will use calculator to show you price. As for going around it shouldn't be a problem too, just print a BTS/MRT map. The officers at the BTS/MRT can speak english well. I think most importantly perhaps do a lot of research before going? E.g find out which station to stop, what time the place opens/closes. And buy a data plan. GPS helps alot! Also, I get asked a lot if this is my first in BKK, normally I tell them I've been here many times (though it's my first), just in case they have bad intentions.

Hi all,I will be going to BKK this week,I wanna buy a prepaid sim card, May I know which telco has a cheapest and better coverage?
*
I would rec AIS. There's an AIS counter at the airport. I paid 100baht for 300mb valid for 7 days. Constant instagram/gps/fb only used 80mb after 4 days. I have no problem with the coverage but I stayed in the city mostly. I think alot would rec Happy but the last time I checked the cheapest data for Happy is 199baht. I don't know about phone calls though. Hope that helps.

First time going to BKK with family of mine, total 7 of us for 5 days trip. Would like to stay nearby Pratunam Market or Platinum Mall. Budget ~ RM100 to RM150 only. Any recommended hotel?
Wondering where can hire a one day tour driver to bring us around. Can anyone advise me on this? hmm.gif

Try Blutique Hotel in Pratunam Market, all street food just outside hotel, a min walk to Baiyoke Sky. Also walking distance to Platinum. It's a fairly new hotel, I stayed there for 4 night this July. Hotel staffs very friendly and helpful.

Hoping to stay near BTS/MRT Sukhumvit, any nice and cheap hotel/apartment around? Preferably with street food nearby. Budget RM100-RM130.

Looked on agoda but there are only a few choices.

How much is it?
should I buy those from Groupons or book from Agoda better?
planning to go on this April (still long to go) 4D3N

It was Rm126/night when I stayed and I booked from Agoda, if you google it, some said they stay 1,000baht/night, not sure how they do the bookings coz there's no phone or email available online.

I got these contacts for Blutique Hotel from a Google search:

Maybe you can try calling or emailing them.

According to http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g293915-....And.Money.html

Do not buy any Thai currency until you arrive in Thailand.

So is it cheaper to exchange for THB only when we arrive in Bangkok?
*
It's true. I changed my thai baht in bkk. the money changers there accept MYR with no problem. I went this July and the real time rate at that time was RM1= baht9.96 and I got RM1=baht9.93 from money changer in bkk so the rate there is definitely much cheaper (I changed RM1007 for 10k baht, in KL that time was RM1030 for 10k baht). If you are not sure with the rates written on the board, always ask them question like 'how much MYR for 10000baht', easier for you to do the math. Hope that helps.

Guys when I was in Bangkok I went to the floating market..

and guess what .. I was conned.

the best part is the taxi driver was in the same group as the con ppl.

we (total of 4 persons) , each have to pay RM250 for a boat ride and taxi ride ...

NEVER EVER trust the taxi man when he say 100 baht to and fro from hotel to floating market then to grand palace.

its a scam..
*
Sorry to hear that. That's awful. Heard there's lots of scam with the transports (taxi and boat) at the floating markets so I never went to any of them.

Dear all,

i will be going to BKK on May 2013, i just finished reading the whole Bangkok V3. There is some questions i wana ask, hopefully you all can help me  notworthy.gif

Q1. I wan to bring my girlfriend to Chocolate Ville as recommended by forummer becoz there is a romantic place to have dinner there, How we gonna go back after we take taxi to there? Izzit easy to find taxi from Chocolate Ville back to nearest BTS/MRT?

Q2. My girlfriend want to got to Siam Ocean World but i heard last time they closed for maintenance due to last time Bangkok flood. Izzit still under maintenance or now open for public?

Thanks.

Just came back from BKK. No need worry about going back to hotel from Chocolate ville as there will be taxis lining up outside but they charge a fix rate 250baht though to your destination within the city. Also, the usual metered taxi won't cost more than 100baht for you to go around so I don't really recommend taking train if you are exhausted from all the walking/shopping. Taxis in bangkok are really cheap. Hope that helps.
