haha.. yiivei.. u can still go to Damnoek .. but try other alternatives.. hotels do provide day tours to floating markets and if i'm not mistaken is around 300 baht for 2 person .. taaxi+boat ride.. so its much more affordable.. other than that.. you can also take the bus there ..

All in all... my experience on the boat ride is really good despite the scam..

You can order food where they pass it to you via a long pole.. etc etc...

You can experience live action of the marketing that local peeps do..

However, just becareful of some well-known scams..  icon_rolleyes.gif

Damonek is touristy, but this is still the best floating market for photography.
The problem with Amphawa is that it is not opened on weekdays.

Yeah, I've already asked my hotel but they do not render this as a service.

Amphawa is worth the trip.  wub.gif

Just take a bus from Victory Monument to Maeklong. If you want to, you can stay a little while and take a look at the Train Market. It was fun to see how quick the market people packed up their stuff when then train comes in and how quick things turn back to normal when the train passed by.

After that, you can take a songthaew to Amphawa and enjoy the floating market. When we were there, we only walked on the side street and bought food from the boats that stopped there. We didn't get on a boat to go to the canals/river so I can't tell you how much it'd cost you.

Also, we were there in 2010 and back then, things and food were very cheap at Amphawa market coz they catered to the locals. I hope things are still the same.  tongue.gif

Anyway, just a tip, get your hotel people to write the names of the places you'd like to go on a piece of paper so you can just show the locals at the bus station which bus you'd want to get on.

I answered what i have researched and known.

Beside Grand Palace, you can visit Wat Pho (500m South of Grand Palace) for the Largest reclining Buddha in Thailand. After that, you can take the express boat across the river to Wat Arun.

Please use meter taxi in Thailand. Avoid taking tuk tuk as they might bring you to gem factory to claim their petrol voucher. And, the journey to your destination can be longer than usual.

SomBoon Seafood is famous for its curry crab. You can however google for it. They have 5 branches in Thailand.

Chatuchak aka JJ Market open at 10am.

most of the taxi is normal sedan car which only fit 4 ppl...perhaps u can ask them in the counter see can make any arrangement or not...if not then 2 car lo...
DMK to City is around 300baht+- not include toll
To go China town...u can use MRT to Hua Lamphong station(pls confirm this with station counter) after that you need to walk to china town... approximately 5 to 10 min walk or u can get taxi and mention Yaowarat...
Grand palace open everyday...dun trust those ppl approach u saying today is which buddha birthday...actually there is nothing nearby grand palace cos all is government department...
u can go grand palace using boat from BTS saphan taksin...along the boat tour u can see those famous temple as well(Wat Arun, Wat Phra Kaew and etc)...
Every taxi in town must remember to ask meter...nowadays some taxi act like tuk tuk...will drive u to some factory to get the petrol voucher...
In thailand...food is nice...i will suggest to try everything...XD
Chatuchak official website: http://www.chatuchak.org/
Luggage is advisable to keep with hotel...more safe...
Traffic in BKK is unpredictable...LOL

It's about an hour plus away from Bangkok, if I remember correctly.

The direction was already given in the post you quoted. Do refer to that.

Have fun!

I like taking the tuk tuk... It's faster than the taxis... tongue.gif

You just need to haggle with the price and if they mention anything about voucher or shop or "We go here... ", just say "No, go straight to .....". If they refuse or you don't agree with the price, say "No, thank you" and just walk away.

Btw, if their initial price is too low or too good to be true, they will want to bring you to whatever shops that give them commission.

Of course, if you don't like all these hassle, then stick to taxi if and when you need it. tongue.gif

If you plan to see the train market, please google for the schedule.

Also, there is a morning market (in front of baiyoke sky, very near to Budacco) that sells clothes. I find the prices here are cheaper in general. You can probably do that on your third day.

It's a bit rush to do Grand Palace (especially if you include Wat Pho and Wat Arun) AND Amphawa on the same day. Not to say impossible, just very rushed due to the distance.

If shopping is priority, then maybe you can scrap Amphawa to concentrate on visiting the city center. Pratunam is very big, can easily take one whole day if you are a shopaholic (like moi, hehehe).

Here's an idea for your trip:

Day 1:
- Reach hotel.
- Shopping at Platinum Mall / Pratunam.
- If you want to buy Naraya, walk to Central World from Platinum Mall.
- If you want to get food from a supermarket, there is the Big C supermarket in the shopping mall across the street from Central World. Lots of people buy cartons of instant noodles from here. Try the minced pork one. Yummy!
- From Big C, you can walk further up to Siam Square Night Market. If you walk further up the road, you should be able to see the Erawan Shrine or the Four-Faced Buddha temple.

Day 2:
- Morning market at Pratunam.
- Go to Sampeng Lane @ Chinatown. A lot of cheap accessories here.
- Then head on to Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun. You can go to Grand Palace and Wat Pho first, then take boat to Wat Arun.
- Then take boat back to Saphan Taksin (also known as Sathorn) jetty and hop on the free shuttle boat to the new Asiatique Riverfront (opens at 1700-0000). People say it's worth a visit, but I've never been.
- Do avoid rush hour if you are going to Chinatown coz the traffic will be jam packed.

OR Day 2:
- Morning at Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun
- Go to Victory Monument to take mini van to Maeklong / Amphawa
- Then back to Bangkok.
- If have time and energy, go to Asiatique Riverfront.

Day 3
- Shopping before head on to airport.

Oh, btw, near your hotel, in front of Indra Square I think, got a whole row of massage parlors. Not sure good or not lah, never tried. smile.gif

Have fun! biggrin.gif

I like Chinatown, specifically Sampeng Lane. They mostly sell wholesale for ladies accessories, small bags, gifts and etc and the prices are cheap. Got many kedai kain as well.

Platinum (and surrounding malls) would have more choices. If you want to pay wholesale price, you may need to buy min 3 pcs of diff design (if they are fussy, they might ask you to buy the same design). You can also buy one piece, but at a higher price.

The prices at Pratunam Market (opposite Platinum, no air-con) would be cheaper.

There's nothing much in MBK so I always skip it when I'm in BKK but who knows, you may like it. tongue.gif
