If we're only talking about the specs, its either the Acer S3, the Dell Inspiron 14z and the HP Envy4..
For me, I'd prefer the HP Envy 4 because its nicer-looking laugh.gif
You should check out the real thing, it'll help you decide better~

These ZenBooks are within your budget no? But they are 13" in size hmm.gif
13"
[Ultrabook] UX32VD-R3001V, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT620M + 24GB mSATA SSD + 500GB HDD@RM2999[1.3kg], 4GB, W7HP, 6-cell battery (6570mAH), 2 years international warranty
[Ultrabook] UX31A-R4005V, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1920 x 1080)@RM3499[1.3kg], 4GB, W7HP, 4-cell (6840mAh) battery, 2 years international warranty

If 14", can consider this one:
HP Envy [Ultrabook] (Spectre) 14-3111TU, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1600x900 Radiance) + 128GB SSD@RM3999[1.8kg], 4GB

The XPS 14 would be overkilled abit (depending on what your definition of "less gaming" is):
Dell [Ultrabook]XPS 14, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT630M + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm) HDD + (1600x900)@RM3799[2.1kg], 4GB, 8-cell, backlit, spill resistant keyboard

* Better avoid i7 for ultrabooks although they are ULV versions... ultrabooks can get really hot...

Can consider this one:
Lenovo
Y480 (5934-1161), i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650(GDDR5)@RM2499[JBL], 4GB(1600mhz), 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, FreeDOS, 2 years international warranty
Y480(5934-1372), i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650(GDDR5)@RM2699[JBL], 4GB(1600mhz), 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, W7HB, 2 years international warranty

Sports a very powerful CPU and GPU for its price.. and the speakers are quite awesome for its class nod.gif

Use the remaining money to extend warranty to 3 years on-site and also upgrade to SSD (it'll help speed up your programs alot and its worth the upgrade). You'll still have money left for additional accessories biggrin.gif
*
HI would like to ask why not the Y580 with i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M? Since it's within his budget and all.

Could you provide an explanation of the differences between i7-3630 / 3610 and GTX660M / GT650M. smile.gif Because from what I've read, the GTX660M is not as fast as the 650M? Some clarification for your decision above would be appreciated! I'm his brother by the way smile.gif And will the important drivers be provided when bought, and the startup / shutdown times will greatly be reduced if I upgrade to an SSD right? Thanks for your help! Sorry I'm a new bie with a lot of questions smile.gif

Hellooo

I was wondering if I could get some recommendations for the BEST suitable laptop for me.

Preferred Brand : Any reputable brands will do
Budget : RM3,000 - RM 4,700
Usage : Gaming, Audio & Video editing
Preferred laptop/screen size : 14"

Other comments : By gaming I mean being able to play games such as Modern Warfare 3, Heroes of Newerth, and Super Street Fighter 4 very smoothly. Audio Media Engineering is what I'll be learning so I'm guessing I would need a laptop to help me with audio/video stuff just in case.

Thanks for the reply! Okay will do some reading on that. As for the CPU , there's not a significant difference right? Cause I'm wondering if I should invest in the extra 500 ringgit. If you get what I mean? :S

Hi biggrin.gif , i am confused on which laptop i should get. I am going to college but i want a decent entertainment and sub-gaming laptop. HP envy has the beats audio but i havent tried it out yet. Some people says it's just so-so only. And I have to order it from the US because malaysian stores dont have it yet. The ASUS has Bang and Olaufsen. I tried it out the other day. IT WAS AMAZING drool.gif . Now im stuck in a dillema rclxub.gif .

BUDGET = 5-6K
PURPOSE = movies, songs, some gaming, surfing around the net
SCREEN = 1920x1080 and has to be glossy, not matte surface
BRAND = Any except APPLE,ACER,DELL
GRAPHICS= Nvidia or AMD, would prefer DDR5.
RAM = 12GB
HARD DRIVE= 1TB would do, SSD is too expensive lol shocking.gif .
AUDIO= Anything that is as good as the beats audio or Bang and Olufsen soundsystem cool.gif

I know that i dont really need such a high powered laptop for what im doing, but i would like to have one that will be able to cope with the technology in 5 years time .I also need it by December, so if there's any more newer or better models coming out, please let me know, also might wait for windows 8, see if its good or not sweat.gif

Thanks to everyone for their recommendations smile.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

2. Budget: RM4-7k
3. Usage: work/games
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15"

I'd prefer a laptop with a 680m gpu, no less than 16gb ram, and an SSD as primary hard drive. No need for optical (I can always buy an external) so if I there's an option to get SSD with a secondary SATA that would be great but not necessary.

I've looked at alienware, purchased next time I go to USA (because damned if I buy for the idiot price they sell it here) but I'm not entirely convinced its a good buy anyway.

Anyone recommend anything?

December is still a long way to go, come back later bro laugh.gif
At the moment, you can consider these:
15.6"
Asus G55VW-S1095V, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080)@3999, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W7HP
Lenovo Ideapad Y580, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3599[JBL], 8GB, 1TB HDD(5400rpm), W7HP, backlit keyboard, 2 years international warranty
MSI GE60, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + Bluray@RM4199, 8GB, 1TB(7200rpm), W7HP, 2 years warranty, gaming mouse & backpack, Free SteelSeries QCK Mass mousepad

The Lenovo Y580 has the best speakers among these.... but then of course you can always get a pair of external speakers nod.gif
And you would still have enough money for SSD upgrades as well...

We'll definitely be getting fancier laptops later on, so its definitely worth the wait, some poison here: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2488593

The M15x is discontinued already nod.gif
Sager perhaps?
15.6"
Sager NP9150, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX670M + (1920x1080)@RM5199, 8GB, 500GB(7200rpm), FreeDOS [CPU Options: i7-3610M - i7-3920XM][GPU options: GTX675M, GTX680M, AMD HD7970M], color backlit keyboard

What do you mean exceptional? In terms of performance?
Perhaps you could consider Sager laptops? hmm.gif

Its basically those two from MSI and Asus, no others unless you want to talk about the 17" versions which are basically similarly speced laugh.gif
The HDD will be the bottleneck for both laptops' performance (particularly so in the Asus), so you should just upgrade them to SSD since you have a good budget... a 256GB one would be just nice nod.gif
*
Any specific model you would suggest? And yeah exceptional as in terms of performance and how long i can last without buying a new laptop the next year as it won't play the games I want tongue.gif

Hi

I've been researching on gaming laptops and I'm really confused between two

Preferred Brands: MSI and Asus
Budget:4000 - 5000 (if exceptional 5.5k)
Tasks: Gaming, Video Editing and Photoshop
Preferred Screen: 15'' minimum

I really like the MSI GT60 but I want something exceptional and better performance

HDD should be 7200rpm or HDD/SDD hybrid.

Please do suggest me and the current prices!

If you think that these are not exceptional enough:
15.6"
Asus G55VW-S1095V, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080)@3999, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W7HP

Sager
NP9130, i5-3210M + Nvidia GTX670M + (1920x1080)@RM4499, 8GB, 500GB(7200rpm), FreeDOS [CPU Options: i5-3210M - i7-3820QM]

Any recommended seller? Lowyat is an option for me to go, but I'm out at PJ so digital mall is an alternate.

Sager units have to be imported, but since you are heading to USA (is it?), the warranty won't be too much of an issue
But you can have a picture of basically how is the price and also configure your Sager here: http://www.illegear.com/
You could PM "Prince J" as well, he is the owner of illegear, very helpful seller thumbup.gif
