QUOTE(ronnie @ Nov 20 2012, 11:49 AM) Just checked that my transactions with Maybankard CC forex rate is even lower than MoneyMaster Midvalley's rate for YEN !!! When there is a huge disparity between the Money Changer rate & Bank Negara, for sure using Credit CArd or even withdraw via ATM sligthly but not all outlet accepting CC lor.. such as eateries, tranportations & etc.. you still need cash..Withdrawal.. also need to be careful because chances of your bank card got rejected by foreign countries also high as what I experienced in Seoul.. Activated my Maybank foreign witdrawal and goto their ATM but failed!..lucky I bring US$ there.. |

Yes, for Seoul, I was advised must use foreign ATMs and lotsa reports on Maybank ATM kenot be used there but there was one guy saying OK... So I tried using Maybank ATM in Dongdaemun Stanchart - Failed!.. and that day was Sunday.. Most Money changer closed on Sunday and since I kenot witdraw, no choice but quieng up on the only single money changer inside Dota mall..damn expensive! using atm card or CC? i used my HSBC ATM card there..no issue, world's local bank mar..haha, but am thinking to cancel my HSBC account though.. but i remember one of the foreign traveller told me not all korean bank accept foreign ATM card though.. |

QUOTE(menmissed @ Nov 22 2012, 11:28 PM) wa... good for you. Ginza really that good to stroll around? Besides Ginza, where else you visited? mind to share as well? Im flying in next week. Contrary to what you have read about Ginza shoppings (Luxury brands & can see but cannot buy)..I actually shop till I drop in Ginza especially during the opening of Uniqlo Ginza in Mar this year haha.. Lotsa 50% cloths/sweaters & downs..And surrounding malls/ fashion shops are equally good & similar pricing to those in Shibuya.Ginza is good combining your trip near Tokyo Main stn area & King Palace. And during weekend there is an interesting flea market at Tokyo Forum near Tokyo stn..Lotsa antiques, kimono & etc... |

QUOTE(mukhrizMrz @ Nov 28 2012, 08:59 AM) Not easy for travelers but for those muslim staying there should be easy.. Even the ramen/udon/soba and the soup base there are all using pig bones to boil. You can eat those in M'sia but not in Tokyo. Nevertheless, you can find kebab & vegetarian indian restaurants there although without halal cert. |

QUOTE(waeguk @ Dec 4 2012, 10:09 PM) Confused .... was told take taxi and not take taxi. I dun drag and I carried the backpack.. Easier to carry backpacks rather than roller luggages esp more stairs than escalators in most MRTs there..So you mean most of you just drag luggage from train stations to streets to hotel? Not clumsy and tiring? Can bullet train or normal trains fit us dragging big luggages? I think i will have at least 3 big luggages for family of 4. |

Aikss. That link I hv given, the maps is in Englih lah.. You just need to choose the region you want to go and not the entire Japan to reduce lagginess.. Also, try to delete the world base map 1st from Gamin MXT.
So far the best english maps= Garmin. Too bad Nokiamaps so not support Japan maps.. Otherwise.. It wil be good. |

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Dec 27 2012, 03:08 AM) Stimix / Ah Wang, I did till the lake area and stop there. I dun goto Moto Hakone. by bus/ferry. I regretted not buying the free pass for ~5000yen and instead using my PASMO card all theway that cost me >6000yean returnDid you do the Hakone full circuit? Odawara > Hakone-Yumoto > Gora > Sounzan > Togendai > Moto-Hakone If yes, overnight? Did you purchase the free-pass? Cant seem to find the price for the ropeway, ship and bus separately.. |

QUOTE(hot-choc @ Dec 27 2012, 08:56 AM) Hakone freepass having discount from Jan 20th to Feb 28th 2013 Damn so cheap...Anyway as a reminder for those wanna buy the free pass, buy a day earier bcos counter only open after 9am and not at Shinjuku sation but inside Odakyu mall which is also part of the stn complex. 4,100 Yen vs the original 5,000 Yen. You must hold a foreign passport to enjoy this special. Can buy at Shinjuku and Odawara http://www.odakyu.jp/english/news/sys/2012...020e131f7be.pdf The reason why I dun buy the freepass bcos I was at Shinjuku stn ~ 7:30am and they told me the freepass cunter is located inside the mall and only open after 9am.. As I kenot wait longer, I just took the normal route to Odawara and thereafter Hakone using PASMO card.. damn expensive To see Mt Fuji clearly go in the Morning bcos by afternoon, the view will be very hazy/misty and you can;t really see Mt Fuji liao by that time |

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Dec 27 2012, 11:20 AM) @stimix, i am thinking about stopping at the lake too (togendai) and then go back. How do you return from the late to Hakone-Yumoto, is there a direct bus? Actually, nothing much in Togendai. Just the last stop fro the ropeway down from the summit i.e Owakudani. The rd gate is located in another area. Also, from the lake at togendai (last station for the ropeway, are you able to view the red torii gate)? And which stop can get the Mt Fuji view? You can't see mt Fuji from Togendai - That's my silly mistake! I shou;d have end my jpurney at the 1000m Summit of the Volcan crater famus for the black eggs..Here is the best way taking the best view of Mt Fuji. NOT Togendai. If you want to see Mt Fuji from Lake Ashi shore.. yeah you need to goto the red gate area (I can;t remember the name liao and in order to go there, you need to take either the bus or ferry from the last stop -Togendai. I decided not to go there once I reach Togendai knowing that I already can't see Mt Fuji from the top ~ 1pm-- All so hazy.. |
