i need to link my cctv dvr to internet, for remote viewing , and staff management.

my shop here is at a location where telekom cant install land line for streamyx.
even if we apply with telekom, they say they wan charge MYR5000 per business lot for a line.
they said developer no pay capital contribution bla bla bla, so we user need to pay.
a simple phone line also need 5000, how to do business? how to maju negara like this?

however, we have full celcom maxis digi 3.5G signal.
i have asked a few local cctv guy here that, is it possible to link the cctv to any of the broadband connection, for remote viewing, they all say , "no public ip", "no open port", "Cant"

really no way, with the celcom/digi/maxis/?? broadband?
please advise
thx!!!

Dun need static IP.

Get a DynDNS service. Couple with 3G router that supports DynDNS and you should be good to go. Only catch is the CCTV port must be reachable over internet (the NAT part). Which I think most telco ISP allow (If can torrent through line, then CCTV should be also okay).

My advice tho, is to consider postpaid instead. Prepaid charge by per 10 KB and will totally cut you off once no more money. Postpaid won't (worse that happen is slow-down). Also, consider WiMAX instead of HSDPA, lower latency.

It's not about static IP. It's about private IP. Imagine setting up a CCTV for remote viewing without access to router for port forwarding. That's the problem with private IP.

If you want a public ip from maxis, they'll tell you that it's p2p and unsupported unless you use their CCTV system.

An option for you is YTL Yes. They still give public IP's. You will need to buy the zoom tho.

Get a 3G capable modem/router and setup free DNS (e.g No-IP) and you are good to go

best if you find camera that require no setup at all (no need to configure port forward etc, just plug n play)

e.g http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1323953/all

It was possible!

Get a good 3G modem(Huawei E367) and a good 3G router (TP-LINK MR3420)

You need to apply for a Public IP from Maxis, It was FOC

Then, port forwarding everything as usual as you did for Streamyx

As for the static/dynamic IP stuff, you can just setup Dynamic IP DNS from No-ip since Dyndns is paid service now

Hi all,
I called Maxis today and they told me that if I installed the Maxis Home Wireless Broadband and connect to the IP Camera via the public IP which they will provide, we still cannot connect to it using Maxis Mobile phone !!!

Anyone has any experience on this?

i personally use both Yes 4G and Maxis 3G (public IP activated) to host my CCTV (i'd call it IP Camera instead) at home. Why do I use 2 providers? 'cause Maxis connection is unreliable at times and I will use Yes 4G when that happens.

Maxis is claiming that with their public IPs, you shouldn't be able to access it remotely using another Maxis connection (Maxis Fibre, Maxis 3G, Maxis Wireless Broadband, etc). But you can access it when using other service providers. This is just a matter of routing structure configured at their end.

However, recently, I'm having issues where it is the reverse. I can't use other service providers to access the IP Camera hosted using Maxis connection. I can use another Maxis connection with public IP activated to access it. This is obviously their routing is messed up. Already opened a case with them but it's almost a month now and they haven't fix it yet.

So, for now, I'd recommend to use Yes 4G with the Zoom Gateway. I understand that Yes 4G is quite expensive compared to other service providers. I'm using the 1Malaysia Value Pack that comes with 1GB/month and it's more than enough for hosting IP Camera because I don't watch them all the time using my phone/computer.

Hope this information is helpful! wink.gif

Thank you Max for your explanation. It is very helpful. So looks like Maxis is quite unreliable for now. Will explore YES. My only concern is the coverage of its network.

I have tried 3G at my area using my mobile and the reception is full bar which is why I was considering Maxis.
Not sure about YES though. I am sure the agent will tell me good coverage but how do we confirm before committing?

Thanx.

you're most welcome! wink.gif

For Yes 4G, it's best if you can test it out personally at your area. Either borrow from someone or pay for it. you can easily get a used Yes Go dongle and buy a prepaid ID to test it out. Check out the sales thread! smile.gif

Hi Max,
I manage to go over to YES shop and they loan me a zoom test unit (deposit RM400).
Tested it out and got a full bar reception at my area.
So...returned and registered.
Will have to try out my AVTech IP Push Video Camera now and see how it works.

According to their user manual :
dyndns.com
dyns.cx
www.zoneedit.com

IMHO, yes zoom dyndns don't really update that well.

Yes no longer provide Public IP. I am stuck with Yes Broadband Now, and cannot terminate due to still have contract with them sad.gif. I ask them to provide me Public IP as I was not told that they does not provide this facility during sign up but they just reluctant to provide. Disappointed with Yes Now.

Upgrade your dvr or ip camera to those with P2P functions. But make sure you can test it out using your Yes connection first, coz most of the P2P server is in China & and very often the speed is unacceptable when using mobile service.

I guess this is the cons of using cellular broadband for for advanced networking use. Cellcos usually provide private IP to subscribers.

Was wondering if this apply to the Digi Infinite plan as well.
Planning to connect my CCTV to 4g router using this plan.
Does digi giving dynamic or static IP?

If your cctv like xiaomi cameras connect to its own cloud network then no problem to view outside home network with digi line.

If you are trying to port forward some ports to expose your cctv rstp service to internet, you will be out of luck because cellular broadbands are mostly NATed. It will still work for those service which go through third part server like mydlink for dlink cctv.

most mobile dont allow UDP Hole punching, you need a relay server, for example, connect those CCTV via VPNGate, then you connect same server via VPNGate, then connect CCTV via VPNGate private ip, I do this when get files via WORKGROUP domain

If you have Land line like Streamyx, Unifi, TIME. to view remote CCTV, you can setup own VPN and let CCTV connect to own VPN, view CCTV via VPN private IP. else... use VPNGate free VPN

You can just get the latest P2P support DVR. It does not require public IP or either open port for the DVR.
You can try this.
https://www.lelong.com.my/dahua-hcvr4108hs-...7-05-Sale-P.htm

I also bought one. Easy to setup just connect it to your router and that's it. No need to configure anything.

If plug broadband into router, and setup IPv6, can choose Tunnel Broker or 6to4 (192.88.99.1).
most import, IPv6 eliminate NAT (Network Address Translation), pure P2P, every device get own unique address, I tried my self smile.gif can pinging from VPS to my home PC. Trust me, IPv6 is awesome

For this one, all your devices at home needs to be using ipv6? Like do I have to change every single device from using ipv4 to ipv6 or can it be selective only?
If I were to plug 4g usb modem into router, I take it a non hilink (the normal dial up) usb modem is required?
Still trying understand on how this tunnel broker works

Some router do provide IPv6 Tunnel if ISP didn't support, for example:

Setup an Tunnel, using 6to4 method much easy than Tunnel Broke

Check settings, every device get own unique IPv6 address.

Done... you have IPv6

Thanks, I guess I can start with this
Btw, what firmware router are you using with this ipv6 setup? tomato, ddwrt?
Have you tried on other cellular broadband like Celcom, Digi? So you were still able to access your devices without portforwarding?
I take it the devices needs to be able to support ipv6 as welll

Hello, any news on this? If my understanding are correct, I can buy a TP Link MR200, put Digi infinite 150 inside. And then use IpV6 setting, after that I can view my CCTV (normally use DNS with Telekom) outside Digi's network such as using Celcom line. Also if that Digi Infinite hooked up server I also can remote access server outside?
