above 20dBm is ok. you get 90%+ speedtest.

but if above 25dBM, your ONT takes very long to online. tm keep quiet and advice users leave it ON. hehee. while in between u have many many probs. this is classified info.
*
what animal is this dBM thing?

is it applicable to high rise as well?

read more , while its true that any internet connection to internet must have a Public IP BUT

the main difference is where is the Public IP located in the network hierarchy.

For normal maxis ftth setup
users are given private IP at their home and kept the public IP at their own server/equipment. In this scenario, for you to reach the Internet, you must pass through their server/equipment. Mind you, this particular public IP could be shared with other maxis ftth to reach the internet. Typically, this type of setup is

1 public IP(maxis data center) -- > many, maxis private IPs (users home router) --> many, your home private IPs(users ipad, phone, notebook, pc)

so, for data communication in the internet others will only be able to see your public IP, once data routed to the public IP, maxis equipment will then have to route it to the appropriate users (private IPs)
For maxis ftth setup with public IP
users are given a public IP (dynamic one of course) at their home directly. So in this case, between you and the internet is just the home router and this public IP is not shared by others at any point in time. Typically, this tpe of setup is

1 public IP(users home router) --> many, your home private IPs (users ipad, phone etc etc)

by using this setup, you have direct control over the the traffic if your router is capable of doing it and of course if you have admin access to it.
Note: In most cases, normal internet activities doesn't really which setup you have, what important is you have a connection and those routers will manage the route appropriately. However for example a cctv setup, you will require certain ports to be forwarded to the local private IP of the cctv equipments, therefor people suggest to get the public IP setup so that you have control over the router. In fact, cctv setups will even work using the normal setup IF Maxis helps you to port forward the necessary ports from the internet to your private IP (However, that might create management mess and most likely there are strict protocols to follow to allow the changes which means they will most likely wont do it for you)

BTW, public IP or private IP have no relation to your LINK speed. Download speed MIGHT be affected though depending the software you use. LINK speed and Download speed is not the same ya.
*
so may i know what is the conclusison?

should we request public ip?

what is the pro and con?

how about the security for public ip vs private ip?

in what circumstances you should get a public ip, asides from cctv purpose?

hope someone can make it plain simple instead of too technical

haha... coz my streamyx has been good, fast and trouble-free lately

previously when 1st started, many problems, take years to solve the issue

so i got a phobia that maxis ftth may cause me unnecessary trouble once again!

*

Anyone using iPad to download movie via PPS apps?

It is slower than my streamyx, lower than 100kbps.

For direct download, only about 700kbps when I download from microsoft download center.

I tested on my iPad to download apps, v.fast.

So is it bcoz maxis blocked the PPS download? If not how come slower than streamyx? Anyone on iPad with PPS pls help

it only lasted about 4 hours after installation... after that my internet connection no longer work

all lights are working fine, but no connection... so i check my router setting and confirm no connection... then i restart both modem and router, now ok again

anyone face the same issue?

i am not sure why coz i touch my router and modem, both cool... in fact the thomson router is cooler than the huawei modem... i placed them both on open air metal tray under a small table, so air flowing nicely

the only thing is i was using the phone for about 20 minutes... could this interfere with the internet connection... any setting?

and then the connection seems lagging when sufring website, but speedtest ok... is it has to do with the router?

really problematic this maxis ftth!

damn... frequent disconnection here as well... every few minutes or so

there is more heat in the huawei modem than the thomson router... so it has nothing to do with overheat lah

it is the thomson router problem itself... when the disconnection about to happen, i notice my pc fan will run fast with loud sound... any of you guys know why?

i just got a report number from maxis support... waiting for them to come back... may take ages

starting to regret since i just potong my streamyx this morning... maxis suckkk big time... my advise for fence sitters, dun take maxis ftth if you want no trouble... otherwise, be prepared for never ending problems

imagine just installed less than 4 hours already got problem... makehai... even the support guy says it has to do with the router!

well not all users have problem like you do.
mine all good no problem what so ever.
but to generalize maxis giving such bad service is misleading.
anyway, do ur right as consumer, report ur problems.
*
sorry, i've used internet since the 14.4kbps era

i've never encounter anything as good as maxis ftth, disconnected up to every few seconds

i guess never in the history of human kind... only can happen in maxis... this maxis is beating tm to be the pukimak of all time

*
sorry for overboard... you're right there is no such thing as problem-free

but can you imagine problem after 4 hours installation?

then disconnected every few seconds?

i've not been working for 2 days due to this... maybe i should start suing maxis and get the compensation

Hi, I'm a fence sitter here.
So I really need to know user's experience.

Did you mean
"anything as good"
or
"anything as bad"?
*
Run for your life or you'll hate yourself for subscribing... Imagine problem only after 4 hours installation... And frequent disconnection, a few minutes in between... Even 30 seconds in between disconnection, world record!

The LAN connection is quite consistent but the WIFI connection is damn erratic, up-down up-down like yo-yo.
As per feedback gathered from the past postings, the Thomson router is the only problem, not the fiber service line.
*
Mine even the LAN connection like yoyo... Makehai

which one gives less problems?
im using 4mb streamyx now.
2 years problem free.
so satisfied but my contract ending in september so i need to change to either
unifi or maxis.
*
My advice dun change... Streamyx v.stable and good lately... Mine maxis only good for 4 hours... My friend got unifi 5mbps, quite good... But given the choice, I would stick to my 1mb streamyx

dude, I don't think that message is relevant. Mine also have the same message, but the internet connection is fine, no disconnection for the past 2 weeks.

what kind of error message you get at the login page when you try to connect? From other member's post, something like "Authentication Failure"?
*
that message is relevant... if you're surfing, it'll hang... confirm by the maxis support, router problem... already open a report for me but never come back as promise

you don't feel it because it's disconnected a few seconds only, then up again... after 5 minutes or so, down and up again

i am retrieving report from overseas, and the frequent downtime(albeit a few seconds) means failure to retrieve a report due to loss of signal

Or better yet, just cancel subscription and complain to SKMM lor...

my connection no problem. your connection got problem, i'm not saying you are imagining the problem.
From what you describe, maxis also being incompetent and not getting back on the solution to you as soon as possible.

So, i'm interested to know the detail of the problem, that's why i'm asking you what other error messages you are facing. This is a technical forum, so we discuss on the problem and probably can suggest some solution. If sendiri can solve the problem, at least you don't need to wait for the helpdesk idiots to get back to you right?

that's my intention. I couldn't care less about maxis reputation, I only want to get my money's worth from my service. You want that too, right?

I'm thinking technical here, the xDSL error message, I too have it, but my connection not affected. So, there's must be other error message that I don't have but you have it. That unique error message could indicate what's the problem in your connection and maybe can fix sendiri instead of waiting for the stupid maxis to get back to you on a solution.

I do give hell to Maxis if my router is a problem, I don't want to buy another router to fix the problem. Why should I spend more money to fix a problem that supposedly the responsibility of Maxis? That's why I didn't suggest to replace the router first unless last resort.
*
okok, paham... sorry misintepretation... but i do not see any other message on the event log before or after the "xDSL linestate down" message

so how to solve sendiri leh... tan xi wo
