Hi, got a couple of doubts..

I have a not-really-so-old-laptop (Lenovo g410), having 2x512mb ddr2 667 ram right now.
The maximum possible is 2gb. So, I'm thinking of upgrading it to 2gb. (havent figured out what to do with the two 512 chips after that though)
(FSB is 667mhz)

I'm wondering,

1. According to the Kingston site, the laptop can only use combination of 512 or 1gb ram chips, not a single 2gb ram chip. Is this true, and does it matter?

2. Is it better to buy corsair/apacer/kingston 1gb x2 or better to go with Kingston's system specific ram ( KTL-TP667 1G ) x2 ?
Is there any performance advantage from this 'system specific ram' ?

3. I'm rather clueless about choosing notebook ram based on the chip in the ram ( Micron, Hynix etc etc). Is there any i should avoid or any I should prefer?
Is there a dealer in low yat selling this sort of chips?

if you know your motherboard model, you can go to the manufacturer's website and search for it, and you can see the specs listed there. those specs can be found in your motherboard manual too.

IIANM, intel chipset i855 mobo support up to DDR333 (PC2700), so if u use a higher clock DDR ram (DDR400 aka PC3200), it will downclock the ram to 333Mhz, so technically u still can use it (DDR400) but with lower clock

it can work, but since u change the ram timing, hyperx and value cannot be stable easily..
if u wan to run 4gb, suggest u to buy 4gb kit at garage sale..
there have crurical, corsair quiet cheap from the outsider...

Guys, i'm since lowyat's selling only a pair or twin for High Performance RAM, i'm wondering

1. Can RAM run together with the different clock value or even totally different brand.
- if no, why, and why is it not good.

2. Issit it must run in pair, or it's only a strategy to force you to buy two.

3. If there is, where else in Selangore can I buy High Performance RAM instead of Lowyat, which sells single ram, not pair. cuz i only need one to upgrade.

No childish answer pls. serious and constructive.

hi guys,
my laptop, DELL 6400, just sent to a comp shop for service,
then i was told that i need to upgrade my RAM, (originally 512),
i was charged RM107 (after bargain), then after 2 weeks, i add in another software, called sth CPUID, which can check my whole laptop,
to my horror, i found out that my ram is only 1024mb which is only one gb...
what could i do...? and is RM107 the current price?
please advise, thanks.. =)
