simple, this is what i do.
1. identify the motherboard capability 1st. are they support DDR1 or DDR2.

2. If DDR1, i buy DDR1 type of RAM. no matter what speed they running.
High speed ram, will always obey to low speed motherboard. what i meant is, if ur mobo can only go for 333MHz, and u bought 400MHz RAM, the RAM will only run @333MHz.

3. Vice Versa.

Anyway, this is what i simply understand about the concept according to my experiance. smile.gif

Thanks for the explaination. Really appreciate it.
One more question, and it will be the last.
How come DDR1 RAM is more expensive than DDR2 RAM? I mean if compare the performance, sure DDR2 owns DDR1 rite? But how come still DDR1 are sold in higher price?

This is because nowadays DDR1 ram is getting obsolete which lesser and lesser people are using it .. Just like sata and sata2 hdd .. sata hdd is more expensive then sata2 hdd because it is getting obsolete too ..

Hi all, I'm planning to upgrade my RAM from 2 X 1gb to 2 X 2gb. I'm using Intel G965 board now and would like to get higher end RAM instead of value RAM, will I (my board) benefit from it? If yes, which would you recommend between Corsair Twin 2X 4096-6400C5DHX and Kingston KHX6400D2LLK2/4GN?

need help here, planning to get a new system, choosing new ram for it.
Planning to get 2gb ddr2 800 ram. Choosing between these three brands, OCZ gold 800 kit, Corsair XMS2 6400, Kingston Hyperx 6400C4. I tink the timing for OCZ is 5-5-5-15 while corsair and kingston is at 5-5-5-12. Price difference is almost similar where ocz ranks cheapest while kingston hyperx most expensive among the three. Or do you all tink getting value rams are more worth it? Thanks.

for me, more capacity is better.value ram also can use like normal.if u dunno how to make full use of performance ram, then no point buying them.performance ram are mostly used for overclocking, but then ,value rams also can overlock

Is it easy to add RAM on my own? Own = someone who has never done that before. Should I just bring the cpu to lowyat and pay someone else fix it for me?

it is easy to plug the ram. just match the slot with the pin. then push it slowly until the left n right latch lock the ram. that's all.. smile.gif

wanted to ask should i buy 1gb ram or 2x1gb ram for my Pentium M 1.86ghz?
Currently my laptop is just 512, wanted to upgrade but scared 2gb ram will be wasted if the processor is slow. Hmm....anyone mind tell me?
Thanks

basically 1gb is fast enough for win xp. in that case 2gb wouldn't be waste coz it's more rams more application and no lags. My procesosr T5600 lags at 1gb in vista. but no lag in win xp. thumbup.gif
