hi, i have a noob question to ask. i've just bought an asus F9Sg with Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipset +ICH8M motherboard and an Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.2 GHz, 800MHz, 4MB L2 Cache). it also comes with Geforce 9300 MG. i have only 2 Gb ram and i am planning to upgrade it to 4Gb, but I am wondering can i use DDR2 800 instead of DDR2 667 that is in the laptop now?is there any difference in performance?
here's the info on CPU Z.Attached Image

Yes u can.
However, the ram will be forced to run at DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz.

And No, you won't feel any differences.

I want to rant something here.

My argument is: Are Corsair Value Select DDR2 rams really suck?

Yeah... so much on the "reliable, qualified, tested, compatible" claimed by Corsair. Here I have 3 brand new Corsair Value Select DDR2, and only one of it is working. I have 3 pc in the house (unfortunately all of them are AMD) and none of them boot with these 2 stupid rams. I've checked with all three motherboards website regarding memory compatibility issue and none of them listed CVS. But somehow, one RAM does work without any hiccup...so I take that the compatiblity test wasn't really accurate. Tomorrow I'm gonna go over my friend's place to test on his Intel.

Since I'm talking about DDR2, I have never had any single problem with Kingston Value RAM and Crucial.

My suggestion here: Beware careful of Corsair Value Select...they're expensive for nothing.

hmmm

the spd timings works the rams are throughly tested by random batches

the problem with compatibility is the motherboard bios and voltages

thats ure issue...

and i suggest using windows mem diagnostic test...
much better than memtest86

out of 11 times i ran in the last one month

WMDT picked up errors that memtest86 didnt 4 out of 11 times..
a few ppl already noticed this and WMDT is about 95 percent chance u will get OCCT stable on ure NB and MEM with the assumption ure vcore settings were also correct.

just curious name the exact ram with link if possible
with the mobo system in question.

personally i always go kingston for any non-oc setup..
laptops, my dell office rig, my htpc..
they always work and rma time is less than 2 weeks and they have a fully support office in lowyat plaza..
which is y i recommend to a lot of ppl who are buying quaddies Q6600 and want to OC them to 400bus.. get the kingston hyperx PC2-6400 CL4 LL..
they work very well at rated specs. and arent hot, and i have been running them for nearly 2 years at almost 24/7 on my htpc / torrent rig without any issue.

i just want to confirm one last time...will VISTA SP1 32bit support 4gb ram? i hear many said that 32bit vista only can detect 3.5gb ram...but some aso said that vista 32bit SP1 can detect 4gb ram?? i so confuse now rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

Vista SP1 32bit can detect 4gb but Vista 32bit can't detect 4gb, that's true. But i'm not sure the 32bit OS got maximize the 4gb RAM usage and performance i'm not hardware guru.

I would suggest you to go and change the RAM the PC-6400 because you have the right to do so in the first place.

Maybe you could call and ask the seller because sometime they also not realize goods they sold.

Based on my experience, 2 X 2GB capacity is more than enough for PC normal usage. E.g gaming, surfing, picture edition, simple programming, etc.

i'm planing to upgrade my ram to 2gb/4gb, but still confusing either go for DDR2 800MHz or DDR2 667MHz.

here's my pc spec:
Gigabyte GA-P31-S3L, FSB 1333MHz (4 x 333MHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550, 2333 MHz (7 x 333MHz)
RAM - 2 x 512MB DDR2 667MHz (333MHz x 2) dual channel

since my bus clock is running at 333MHz, if i swicth to DDR2 800MHz, then my clock speed will be 400MHz izit?

should i go for 800MHz or 667MHz?
