So my vaio is in ICU, and I just ordered the new MPB with Retina and 256G SSD option.
Took additional 8G of ram. Hopefully it won't disappoint me and can last at least 3 years.

Now I just have the little bit trouble of educating myself on Mac, coz it's gonna be my first Mac tongue.gif
I'm hoping I don't need to use bootcamp or similar method (which means have to buy a Windows license rolleyes.gif ).
Was reading about WINE earlier. I thought it sounds pretty good, no?

Ohh I see, you mean the Parallel is able to access and launch the Windows OS which have been installed in the bootcamp partition?
*
no, Parallel is a software on Mac to run virtual Windows.
meaning you don't have to create partitions

Yes, but what i mean is the Windows vm image itself, just now he said that when installed Windows on the Bootcamp partition, the Parallel can access this OS as an image?

Can access bootcamp partition. It can boot your windows 7 in bootcamp as a VM.
This is the best way. Ad you might be needing the windows 7 to be run natively.
Eg. Games.

For office applications, i always use Parallel desktop to boot my windows 7 in bootcamp.
Just for usage for a while, like 5 minutes.

The key to Parallel desktop is that you need a SSD.
SSD can make HUGE difference in this kind of task.
Normal rotational HDD is just shakehead.gif

Great! because with this way, we have got both benefits - run Windows as native + save disk space

Added on June 24, 2012, 7:21 pmThis is exactly I'm looking for, so what is the minimum SSD disk space you recommend? 128GB enough?

hi guys, an update ~ i just back from midvalley machines, their rmbp doesn seems laggy / delay like the demo unit at sunday pyramid lol ! very very very smooth and happy playing with it ~~ arghhhhh.... 3 more weeks for me !!! sad man..

There you go. Not all MBP RD deemed the same with the rest, perhaps the APRs themselves have done the necessary Software updates on display models to truly reflect the real working condition of the MBP RD. So much for the naysayers.

QUOTE(echoesian @ Jun 24 2012, 04:32 PM)
Why would you recommend 8GB RAM instead?

However for 128GB, with OSX, iWork & other OSX apps installed, is it still enough for Bootcamp or Parallels/VMware/Virtual Box?
*
Dual-booting, even the mention of virtualization like Parallels, the more RAMs, the better. RAM upgrades to me is a no-brainer. Storage upgrades can come in the form of fast Thunderbolt or decent USB3 external storage. I won't be surprised if enterprising folks will find a way to boot from Thunderbolt external drives and work from it with fast speed as if it was booted internally.

Basically, adhere to what Olivur and SurpriseZZZZZ said. You cant go wrong.

1. VLC. Runs EVERYTHING. No additional codecs required.

2. Zip file extractor built in into OSX. For RAR, use RAR Expander or UnRARX

Press on/off button until it shuts down. But don't do this frequently. It might corrupt your HDD later.

what OS are you running?
if you're gonna say you updated from SL to Lion directly, that could be the cause
