it won't be useless, the housing can be changed, i believe the lens is actually in the sensor instead of that piece of glass exposed outside:

THANKS FOR SHARING THIS! WOOT!

Btw, anyone know how much it costs to change this part? my symptom exactly like the story shared above. But, mine fell naked! now there is a hairline scratch off centre to the right. and yes, gorilla glass does scratch. especially if its sharp, hard points. during my e90 communicator days, i even went as far as ordering the housing unit, reading the technicians manual and watching the housing replacement procedure video dunno how many times. it is tedious work.

i think the question now is not how much but when the part is available..

Ya, Gorilla glass is scratch-resistant not scratch-proof. Big different.

Unlike lower resolution camera, dust and scratches do effect the photos for pureview

tried again just now, long press only appear a menu to add tag... hmm.gif

Added on July 28, 2012, 6:17 pmby the way I've been reading the Nokia forum and it seems that 808 also has potential problem, worse is Nokia doesn't exchange your unit for a new one even if it's just one day old unless the shop you bought from willing to change for you. saw quite a few complaints about poor services about Nokia service center. so do a simple check list as below:

1) purple tint problem on the display. this one you can check right away, if you see very obvious purple tint especially to white and black, reject the unit. though, some unit seems to have this problem only when set to max brightness, some is worse that it present on all brightness setting.

2) proximity sensor not working, covering the sensor with finger will not turn the display off, so as during a call.

3) faulty camera sensor, saw one reported 1/3 of the photo taken seems to have less details, and one reported seeing green line in viewfinder and also captured in video but not photo.

4) loose lock slider and camera shutter button lacking tactile click during secondary pressing (after focusing).

maybe some can add more to the list if you see any that's not mentioned? not sure if I should add mine though, when I compared my situation with the above mentioned issue suddenly mine looks so minor. blush.gif

I was just going to ask this question also after trying my friend Pureview 808 yesterday. Can't find any place to view the picture details which is suck for me. I'm a Nokia N8 Belle user and it is much more accessible + easy transfer using bluetooth to my PC.

Compared to N8, picture is more clearer and detailed but not that significant. IMHO, the price tag is not that good as it comes with older OS and processor. Given the existence of above issue, the problem could be due to prototype status and low mass production of this phone. Really can't find it everywhere sweat.gif

if you view it on small screen, you won't get the idea how large the actual size/zoom is. if you put both 10~12MP photo side by side with 808's full resolution photo, you'll see that 100% zoom the 808 is few times larger. so if that full resolution resize to 10~12mp, THEN you'll see how much details the 808 can capture.

you won't go wrong with it. first time i felt such a smooth operation from firing up camera -> take picture -> view gallery. everything almost instant. it's like the phone doesn't need to process (unless you take full resolution, it'll take a good 2+ secs to process it). also due to its touchscreen operation some point and shoot camera is not as fast.

and you overlooked the low light performance and FHD video with excellent audio capture.

Added on July 28, 2012, 9:50 pmalso, anyone of you make use of the GPS? i find that the GPS accuracy can be way off like i'm at the next street sometimes, but i suspect it's software problem cause most of the time my position is *spot on*, the fix time is so darn fast that it's so useful when i'm driving around and look for a quick position check - most of the time it lock under 10secs even semi cold start (e.g. from Subang to KL) without AGPS, just the GPS chip alone!

Wah, u guy no need to bang me so much lah. Just my opinion mah . I also got a 1080p monitor and I had zoomed many original 808 pictures in comparison against N8 and DSLR camera. It did have better picture but not that significant that I hope for. The difficulty to find the taken picture info really suck, just like Lumia phone.

first my comments are pretty much neutral towards you and i believe i was being "suggestive". don't take it negatively. wink.gif

do you own a DSLR or at least a mirrorless? there are more than just static comparison photo and you probably never get the real picture if you don't use it for real. when i tried the panasonic GF2 my expectation was pretty high and surely it disappointed me. the problem is not the camera, it's my limited experience with good cameras. in the end, found out with the expectation i had, ultimately i need to buy Canon 1D MkVI. put the price tag aside, you gift the 1D to me i also won't carry it day in and out simply because of the size. with 808? it's just PERFECT.

on the other hand, shown my 808 to my colleague who's into photography, the first impression from her when she saw the picture of an artificial flower was "wah?!", followed by "my nikon DSLR (mid range) 14MP can't take that kind of details". the texture of the plasticky flowers and leaves can't hide from the eye of 808. biggrin.gif

lol no offense to some ppl i learned that alot of people expectation into photography is way below normal. Like many users of android even the photos taken by them they can say it looks okay but to me it looks crappy

No image quality at all. Full of noise and most of the time blur.

Example this photo taken by a forumer using galaxy note his first comment was The power of galaxy note 8MP. If this was taken by a 808 pureview i bet the people faces and text on the boat will be visible. For that fella crappy looks beautiful. So i am speechless sometimes.

The quality depends on your level of observation 2nd what are you taking and what mode it is shot.
user posted image

3rd If your 808 photos are the same level with a DSLR quality and you cant see the difference means the 808 is superb because the sensor is alot smaller than a DSLR sensor and for god sake 808 is a mobile phone.

user posted image

Just imagine how bad are photos taken by iphone 4S and all the android phones its many times worse than Nokia N8 but to many it looks alright just imagine how low their perception of good image quality is due to brainwash.

I dont have a pureview to show you what i mean but just take this photo taken by a Nokia N8 as example

This photo is shot at 12 Megapixels but what happen if you add another additional 26 Megapixels to this image just imagine what details and sharpness will appear? Thats how you utlize the power of the megapixels. So now imagine the bigger picture if this is a banner or a text you will have better visibility and sharpness due to that extra megapixels.

Another example look at the fly if you add additional 26 megapixels to this photo means the fly hair are even clearer

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Lastly

808 pureview shines at low light areas even my canon DSLR at ISO 400 and 600 have challenges in low light. I seen some samples taken by forumer even at ISO 400 on 808 pureview it perform better than my DSLR.

I know alot of ppl said android camera or Sony Exmor sensor camera are amazing in low light. Have you try enlarge those photos? The photos only looks nice in the phone view finder when view on computer or enlarge it looks crappy. Dont believe try it yourself.

This just my opinion.

it all depends on how the pic is exposed on the dslr...this is iso3200 on a dslr.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

just for fun, here's a 100% crop of the badge.
if its on a 808, provided it can even shoot at iso3200, there wont be any detail at all...
cos even 808 at iso1600 the detail is lost already due to the sensor size.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

also this is iso6400 on a d7000...loses out a min of 2 stops of iso to a better body...so can imagine how much better a top of the line body will do.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

this meanwhile is iso800 on a point n shoot with a smaller sensor than 808.
detail may not be there, but noise control is good enough.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

so its not all about megapixels...its part of it...but not all of it.

but, but i still think pureview's photo quality is insignificant compared to N8 and its price tag is no good at RM1699 for a 41MP cameraphone, at that price i expect it to have at least 4-core processor and running a newer OS than N8. and oso since it's so low mass production and i can't find a unit to buy, so i conclude n8 > pureview. notworthy.gif
