Very very very condensed version of how the camera works...
1) When u press the shutter button... shutter opens.... light goes in the lens..... captured by sensor as data
2) Data will be processed by the jpeg engine (the processor) by adding settings like your creative style, DRO settings, whitebalance settings, noise reduction, sharpening.
The RAW file is just the data without going through the jpeg engine.... which you have to convert in your PC to a jpeg.
And since you're converting it in your PC, you have a more accurate screen, you can adjust according to your preference and then export it into a jpeg.
In a way, RAW file is like film and Jpeg is like the photo.
