Im using ASUS N55SL  right now but after looking at y580FHD... im amazed.. is it worth it if i sell my n55 and go for y580?
*
hey fren, your N55 is also a very nice machine. I'd say, unless your n55 now is too slow or can't serve your pruposes, or else, just use until it has reached its full potential. there is no end in chasing newer models - they just keep coming every year... i'd bet in 2013, the market will be flooded with lappies with specs better than y480/580 at even lower prices...

Hi thanks for the suggestion. My N55 really is nice until today, but the thing is, my laptop is for gaming purpose, i can set to highest setting in games but not Ultra.. GTA IV is the game that i played the most, due to ENB mods which make my gta iv more realistic, sometime i lagg..
*
hmm, in that case, y580 would be a good candidate for you - this is probably the cheapest lappy with i7 3rd gen. at 15.6" FHD. but compared with your n55, y580's screen is glossy, not matte - i prefer matte. though i bought y480, i was seriously considering N56VZ if not for the price and also the size (a bit bulky at 15.6")...

now a new (lower) specs for y580 came out with price at almost 2900 - wow it is hard not to be attracted.... biggrin.gif

Ya i know,i bought this laptop because the design is so.. nice, i mean glossy a.k.a piano look alike.. but y580.. the design is not really nice, To me. no offence. But the spec is superior.. gtx..wonder if intel i5 with FHD y580 cost how much
*

hehe, ya, the design is so so only, but quite solid, with good specs, and the speakers is very good above this price point, anyway, how's your n55's sound with the B&O?

the new price by this seller is even lower now rm2848:

The new variant of Y580, just wonder is HD or Full HD hmm.gif
Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M (GDDR5) + @2999[JBL], 4GB(1600mhz), 500GB(5400rpm), W7HBasic, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty. free P950 headset

Wow..  y580 got i5 with FHD? if so, around how much?
*
no i meant Y580 is 15.6", it is still an i7 machine...

the new price of 2848 stated by that seller is for FHD! really... but of course they cut some corners like no blue ray but dvd, hdd not 1TB but 500 GB, etc., to bring the $ down. Compared with Asus N56VZ (i5 version), this one is hard to beat! Somemore got free Lenovo headset if you hurry......

anyway, if you buy this, report your experience to us here... thanks....

N56VZ i use before, its my sis's, quiet same as my N55 but slightly powerful than N55. The graphic is GT650M meanwhile mine is GT635M, difference FPS is about 10fps..and her N56VZ is i7 and mine is i5 only.. Y580 with i5 is still GTX 660m right? GTX yo.....
*
oh, your sis n56 i7 must cost arounf 3500 right? it's a beautiful one.

i bought y480 with GT650M, this y580 (i7) is with GTX660M. I don't know of y480 and y580 with i5 - that might be sold in China, but not heard of in malaysia.

looks like Lenovo Malaysia's strategy so far is not to bring in any Y580 i5. Look at their pricing:

Y480, i7 HD - rm2500
Y580, i7 FHD - rm2900 (reduced specs)
Y580, i7 HD - rm3400
Y580, i7 FHD - rm3600

they have covered very well the range from 2500 to 3400. if they bring in y580 with i5, where should they place it? so i think they might not bring in. if you want to import, might as well just take any of the above without any trouble. but who knows they might after this round of heat wave created by the y480 & y580 combo?

of course I'm not insider, just my speculation. rolleyes.gif

Yes, if im not mistaken its around rm3600 with some ram upgrades, we buy lappy at the same day.. her budger is 4k meanwhile mine is only 2.5k.. have to borrow her money also to buy N55SL.  but computer shops can import it right? i really would like to know how much does y580 FHD with i5 cost.
*
oh, you forgot to answer me: how's the n55 (and now your sis n56) sound with the B&O speakers? i'm sort of an audiophile... cool.gif

Ya, Lenovo Y series well covered the range from 2500-3600 as belows:
Y480 freeDOS -rm2500
Y480 W7HB - rm2700
Y580 FHD reduced specs - rm3000
Y580 FHD full specs - 3600
Y580 HD - rm3400 phase out & replaced by FHD model
*
haha u r more accurate. but come to think of it, it might be possible for them to bring y480 with i5 and market it at <2000, with cheaper components, but it depends on their current performance of those lower series, if they perform well, why hurt your own sales? also, if lenovo malaysia intends to image the y series as their top consumer line, then they may not even sell any model below 2k, i think.

why not talk to the seller first http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2472117&hl= and find out how much for him to courier to sarawak? i'm sure he provide this service, at some extra courier cost.

this is the latest news on his page: "When I came just now only 3 left, bought 1 and 2 remaining."

Finally bought my Y580 FHD at Lowyat yesterday.

The carrying back that they give are just too small, can't really fit the notebook nicely.

Anyone feel the same?
*
yeah i agree. btw the bag is not much use la, a backpack will be more pratical.

which version of the y580 fhd you got? the full specs (~3500) or the newer version (~2900)?

so far ok, though no of top quality. the left and right click buttons are stiff and have clear click sound (no so good), the scroll up/down and the prev/next page swipe gestures work very nicely.

After U plug in the monitor u got press Fn+F3 to change the setting to extend or not?
And if got, post the picture of Screen Resolution setting(right click->screen resolution)
*
ok, i did. both monitors could be extended from y480 individually, but now i'm trying to have both -- cannot.

the problem is with the one connected via HDMI. I tried connect to HDMI first - succeed. then when i add in the vga, the vga takes over, hdmi lost signal.

sorry guys.... i haven't gotten 2 external monitors to work - currently only on 1 (extended display). the words below are taken from another site that guy apparently has gotten it to work:

I'll try to get those cables and see if it works on mine or not.

it seems to have 2 external display on extended mode is not an easy job.

Friends..i just bought y580 for 3599..my question is how i know it is full hd?
*
rclxms.gif

Welcome to the club....

look at the label at the side of the box, does it say:

Display: 15.6" FHD LED, or somethjing like that?

and then, on your windows desktop, right click, choose Screen Resolution, you should see the Resolution: 1920 X 1080 (recommended). if your display can't reach this number, either the setting got problem, or the unit is not FHD.

y580 have heat issue?
*
Y580 is bigger than Y480, should be better in heat control. Many of us are using Y480, and yet the heat issue is minor so far, and quite a lot of us will be buying a special caddy to move the hdd to the dvd drive bay, when this is done, the heat issue on the hdd will be gone.
