actually, i am using the hood cover. but like kimi said, it has very limited space to fit the required lights and the heat from the lights will heat up the tank. I managed to squeeze 2 x T8 FL in there... hehe... I intend to remove it and add on the LED lights when i get them

@goldiger, moss is usually tied to Driftwood (DW) or rocks. its light as u aware, so it will float around if not tied properly.
maybe you can get a stainless steel mesh and make it like a big semi ball shape... then you can tie a lot of moss on it. i think you want to make a "tree" in the middle is it? |

goldiger bro, i assume they are using rocks at the bottom of the moss... not too sure how they succeed in doing such a big bush though... haha... i already had minimal success from growing using plastic mesh... maybe you need to start with a really big bunch of java moss to get it to spread like those in the pic. |

beer8bottles, 2.5ft go for 1/10hp or 1/6hp. using cl450 which is a 450W est consumption on a standard 4ft now, i think its a 1/6hp chiller. 2nd hand model la... cools to 26c-27c. bill maybe increased rm20-30, not too sure..
bigger hp means faster cooling and less compressor kick. thus, more energy efficient that way... first time it took about 30-45mins to cool water from 30c/29c to 27c. then occasionally kick in about 15mins each time. maybe 3-4 times a day... for some reason, i can't get it under 25c.. maybe old model.. haha.. Added on July 16, 2012, 5:12 pmto add: like weijie said, TEM runs continuously even though the temp already cold. unless got sensor attached, it will keep cooling the water until even freezing it.... compressor usually got temp sensor controlled. means u set 25c, the compressor will run until that water temp is reached, then stop running (save electric!). when temp hotter maybe +/-1 or 2c of ur set temp, it will run again... too extreme maybe... but u get the idea.. one keeps running and the other stops when the temp is reached.so over all, compressor based is usually softer on ur wallet/bill compared to TEM.... guys with chiller or sifus... i just got a measuring ammeter to calculate the wattage ran on my chiller.. CL-450. it seems its pulling 260W instead of the written 450W. any issues with it? its pulling down about 3-4c from 30 to 27/26c. it doesn't go below 26c even i tried setting 24c.... any reasons for it?

arrow : how big is ur tank again? cl650 is 1/6hp so its much better workhorse compared to mine. me using it with taiyo 1200lph rating going to the cl450 on a 4ft about 200liters of water...
