Got my unit delivered to my office. Yet have time to saliva over it. Will reformat windows and install crunchbang when I back at home! smile.gif

Does your 15R SE has SSD? If got, I suggest don't reformat windows (i.e. install a new windows). The mSata is screwing up, my laptop is almost f*cked up now.

I installed windows 7 ultimate but the mSata caching no longer work. GG

No plan to use SRT. In fact I partition the mSATA into two. One for my basic windows, one for my basic debian. Hahahaha wink.gif

Did you use Win7 with Service Pack 1 disk when installing? hmm.gif

Can try refer to this thread. Although its not the same model or even brand but i think the way it work is similar.

lol, I should have read this earlier but I managed to get it done already just now. Now already enabled acceleration, blazing fast biggrin.gif

A question for all 15R SE owners, do your touchpad left button has a louder springy clicky sound as compared to your right button?

If yes, I personally find it irritating. If no, means my left button is defective.

I also noticed that my backspace has louder squeaky sound as compared to other keys. Like it needed some lubricant :S
*
My touchpad left button is normal, sounds quiet and just like my right button.
My backspace also has a weird squeaky sound but not loud enough to irritate me.

Guys, any idea how to force Media Player Classic to use the HD7730M card to play videos? It is using Intel now and even though I set mpc-hc.exe to high performance in Catalyst Control Centre, it is still using Intel to play.

My 1080p ts files are not smooth enough sad.gif

U sure its running on HD4000 or MPC-HC doesn't utilize it at all?
Even my Intel HD3000 can play TS file smoothly except when i use MadVR output.  hmm.gif

I use Microsoft DTV/DVD Video Decoder output which enables the 60fps playback of ts/tp files. I am sure it doesn't use my ATI card because I check my ATI card usage while watching it, 0%.

Anyway I managed to solve it, by choosing Power Saving instead of High Performance lol. Weird, it plays very smooth in Power Saving mode :s

OK this is weird but I cannot access depositfiles.com with this laptop. I checked with another laptop and can access the site just fine. Anyone know what's up? The antivirus blocking?
*
TM/Streamyx blocked it. The other computer can because it has changes dns address. Use google dns 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 then can access.

Really, Unifi blocks depositfiles? Never had a problem accessing the site from my old laptop. Anyway, reading the tutorial on google dns, so after this can access the site anytime?

Edit: should I change for only TCP/IPv4 or for both TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6?
*
for ipv4 only, leave the ipv6 alone. yea once you set, just click ok and immediately you can access the site

Worked like a charm! Thanks for the tip!

A question about the Dell warranty, need to activate the warranty online? Or issit considered activated since date of delivery?
*
I think no need, mine already registered when I received the laptop.

You can check your warranty status here http://support.dell.com/support/topics/glo...s=19&l=en&s=dhs

Just key in the service tag number (you can find the serial number on the bottom of your laptop).

My warranty is due in 2015 smile.gif

just use madVR ur HD 7730 will fully utilize.. don't 4get CPU also..
*
Weird, when I use HD 7730 to watch (even with MadVR) it is very laggy. I confirm it uses 7730 because I set to high performance and the GPU usage & temp rises during playback. But laggy.

Then I switch the profile back to power saving, it uses Intel HD 4000 and smooth like cream. No idea why but I'll let it slip, just use the Intel to watch then. But when gaming, the HD 7730M shines biggrin.gif

guys, how to make sure if we run the game with ATI graphic card instead of intel onboard card? hmm.gif

edit: ok now i got it. just go to "catalyst control center" -> power -> switchable graphic card method -> choose select the graphic card manually. now i can safely run all my games with ATI graphic card.  thumbup.gif  coz the auto detect apps one seem not working for me eventho i already select "high performance" option. sweat.gif

Hey bro, my catalyst control center under Power only got PowerPlay and Switchable Graphics, it doesn't have :switchable graphic card method" sad.gif
Under Switchable Graphics it only let me choose which apps is assigned for which graphic card. May I know which version of Catalyst Control Center you're using? Thanks

This is my guide to reformat Windows in 15R SE with SSD, I've tried many times to make it work but I CANNOT guarantee if it works for you, because I got it right by following these steps and I never tried it again.

NOTE: DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. NOT recommended for newbies in windows installation and troubleshooting.

1. Make sure you don't change any settings in the BIOS, don't ever change the HDD mode from Intel SRT to AHCI or SATA. Leave it as Intel SRT (raid)

2. Backup all files in HDD to external HDD or other source, because you need to CLEAN format the whole 1TB HDD of your 15R SE. (yes, including recovery)

3. download this driver before hand http://www.mediafire.com/?2wyasi59f5gyoep (Intel SRT driver files), extract and burn into a CD (usb cannot because when installing windows, USB 3.0 cannot detect)

4. When everything is ready, boot into your windows 7 installation disc.

5. Choose clean install, then you will notice you can't see any HDD available. Don't worry.

6. Eject windows 7 DVD, put in the CD with intel SRT driver just now. Click Load Drivers below the HDD selection in the windows installation window.

7. refresh to locate the inf file, click to install the drivers. If it failed, it is NORMAL. Refresh again and install the inf again, this time will work. After you can see your HDD partitions being listed already, put the Windows 7 DVD back.

8. In drive options, delete all the partitions including the recovery partition and make it only ONE partition (not sure why, because when I did not delete, i get BSOD when loading windows). By doing this you cannot return.

9. Make only one partition which is 1TB, then install windows like normal to it.

10. Everything should go well, install all required drivers including intel SRT, chipset, intel rapid start etc. Then do reboot.

* if you want to make another partition after windows installation, you can make using Easeus Partition Manager.

I suggest you DON'T reformat if it is not necessary, because if you screwed up some steps you might lose your windows forever or keep getting BSOD sweat.gif I tried 3 hours only found this method, and in between got many times I got the boot manager disappeared but managed to recover.

o.o your laptop is not 15R SE? Apparently latest drivers from dell doesn't have this function so I'll just leave it... So far still okay with switchable graphics.

So I was looking for dell retail shops here

http://content.dell.com/my/en/home/d/campa...en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

Quick question, are there any price difference btw different dell retail shops around KL and selangor? or they all have to offer the same price?
*
They should have the same price but some laptop models are only available online (and customization) and you can use coupons online.

Why cannot insert DVD and auto setup? Can call Dell for help?  sweat.gif
Thanks.

This has SSD, which has RAID mode enabled in BIOS by default. If you don't follow my instructions, when you install windows you can't see the drives and partitions at all.

If you 15R SE has NO ssd, then no need to follow my steps, just install like normal. If has, then better don't try if you are not familiar with these.

Save all the hassle from installing the driver manually by using Win7 with SP1 installer/iso/disc. doh.gif

Download : Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (English, 64-bit) | Windows 7 Ultimate SP1

Err bro, we all know that sweat.gif

Installing windows on a laptop with msata SSD is not the same as the normal procedure... Of course we know have to use Windows 7 ISO/DVD doh.gif
