As planned, wife & i went to confirm 408 just now but saleslady revealed those prices to my wife and also claim 2.0 for comfort with soft suspension & lighter steering wheel. And since i am buying the car for her, we end up with 408 2.0  doh.gif

Unlike paultan review that biased to 1.6thp (imho biased bcoz u cant compare the two, its totally different car), the following review comforts me yeahuuu  rclxm9.gif
http://www.cbt.com.my/2012/06/18/peugeot-4...for-the-family/
*
Actually before I confirm this car, I aimed for family car. After view on Paultan review, understand that 2.0 is more to comfort and 1.6 more to naughty. I was struggling on that, rclxub.gif not sure which spec to go.
The next day I went for a test drive, both variants. Then~~~ I kena poison by the Turbo sweat.gif

Just noted that, the link above. The interior pic that posted is belongs to 1.6T variant

Not yet la bro. Just paid deposit last Friday. This wed gonna bring my check book & those required docs. Raya holiday also busy strategising my way to convince wife for the T  sweat.gif still got 2 days to go to change to T or stick with NA.

Btw, any recommendation for the tinting? They are giving discount voucher for the tint but dunno what brand. I need to tint mine as well my sis' 308thp

Hepi raya & long holiday to all pug owners

I got 3 recommendations here:
1) V-Kool
2) 3M
3) Huper Optic

Personally prefer Huper Optic as its darkest color among all and warranty JPJ, which means if theres any summon from JPJ due to the darkness color. They will settle it. rclxms.gif
V-Vool has the highest quality of heat protection, but feedback from some users, unable to detect GPS, phone signal and auto gate remote control. shocking.gif

How about 3M?
*
3M quality not bad also, almost the same with V-Kool.
Just that the color not dark enough, thats why I didnt take that. If you don't really mind the darkness of the tinted. I would recommend to take 3M.
Light transmission of 3M -->> 70%
Light transmission of Huper Optic -->> 40%

I can only say its all depends on luck. Ever heard some other brands also have certain bad luck customer that have got a low quality check.
Just a lucky one is that so far those 408 users in this forum have not been experienced that bad so far~
No matter what brand of car you are buying, its all depends on luck!

I know what you mean, everybody who step into Peugeot 408 and test drive does have this feeling. Its called PAD (Peugeot Addiction Disorder). The only cure is buy a unit for yourself. Drive 3 times per day. smile.gif
*
Yeap~ I agree with this. Initially, I was not intent to change my ride this year, was thinking to change only next year. But then only just happen to drop by to Honda show room to just have a view on the new Civic with my wife. Totally disappointed!! rclxub.gif My wife just said why not we go take a view on Elantra also. Then we go to Hyundai. (Please note we only just wanna free viewing whistling.gif without the mind to changing the ride).
There is a Peugeot show room beside Hyundai then we drop by to view on this beauty. Touch touch see see then we go home, and... I got poisoned.
After got home, I asked my wife like this car or not, she said yes. Then we did a test drive the next day. At then end, we made the decision to change my ride! flex.gif

How so far?..The fuel and ride...wife like it? smile.gif hehehe

The FC is not that good~ Compare to VW, my friend's Golf FC is much more better than 408. But the ride is awesome!!
1) Spacious - Which is the priority requirement for me to fetch my family.
2) Rear air-con vet - Good to have it
3) Responsive power - I agree some reviewer commented that 408 is much suitable with the 2.0NA, but I just love the THP!!
4) Handling is good compare to other Japanese makers

And I agree with you that I quite disappointed that 408 does not come with body kit nor LCD HU. I was offered a after market OME HU with a quote of Rm2K. And the quality is good enough and worth the price, however, I just worried about the 5 years warranty so I just give up.

Anyone could verify with Peugeot about the warranty? And this oem comes with gps and reverse camera?
Btw, I always worry the car behind me kiss my butt everytime I look into rear view mirror as 408 butt is very high. Anybody experience the same syndrome?
*
The OEM comes with built in GPS and reverse cam at a price of Rm2.2K. I had look the unit that installed on Sonata and Tucson, the quality of HD player and reverse cam is good. All original on wheel controller are functional with the OEM. Anyone could verify with Peugeot about the warranty?

Do you experience the 'too more ketat' thing while driving or while the engine turned off? If you experience it while driving, I suggest you get it checked.
I've heard that 3M doesn't come with tint+security film. You have to put another layer of security film after the tint film. Is it true?
I've 'PM'ed on Peugeot's facebook with regards to rattling sound and they give me this email to lodge complain to ; clic@naza.com.my.

Please do share your observation with us. I also noticed that my 408 rear bumper is 'hanging' on the left, meaning that I could lift the bumper up and there're still room for it to move upwards around 3mm before it touches the rear brake light.
*
Yes, 3M doesn't come with security tint. For the 3 above recommendations don't come with that also. Security tint actually doesn't give high end heat protection, security tint normally provide lower quality of heat protection. And it's not recommended to put double layer of tint film.

Our 408s are manufactured in China plant and assembled at Gurun. The China models have GPS. Therefore I believe no electrical mods are necessary. Most after market GPS units are plug and play. Get tech details with installation details for the unit. With these details sent to Peugeot, they can verify warranty validity.
I'm interested in the mentioned unit. Can you Post the name of unit and shop contact. Tq.

just get a plug and play units. then the warranty would be continue smile.gif

It's plug and play OEM, but how can we so sure the warranty won't be voided. As I know, for every little single wiring you did on your car, it will be recorded in ur car's system. When they connect your car to their system, they will know what you have done to the wiring, even a small little burb you changed in your car.

Guys correct me, Sierraglow is purely to retain that factory paintwork shine? It does not protect the paintwork from scratch!
Do they provide any guarantee and how long the shine retention?

*
Coating is a layer on top of ur factory paint, it provide shinny glossy effect and slightly minimum protection of the paint from direct sun light/ bird shit/ or dirt. It doesnt protect your paint from scratch. The coating glossy should last for a minimum of one year.

I did not send my car for coating. However, I DYI the coating on my car. Heard the product PERMANON?

Haa.. I am not selling it actually. Just happen to see it somewhere, and I not willing to pay such a huge amount for the coating so I decided to DIY. I got the product from this forum also, PM u the link later on.

hey guys wanted to ask, i recently scraped a wall and there are scratches along the side of my car. any idea if peugeot service centre will repaint it? if yes, is it more expensive than if i send it to some car workshop?
*
If you send to other workshop for paint, there's highly chance to have 2 tones of colors on your car. Ofcoz it's more expensive to repaint it at Peugeot.

Tks for the info bro. I will try PERMANON as my car is always in the shade, office or home. To run around or the market,we take my wife's Myvi, find it much easier to chuck around and especially park at supermarkets. Is it essential to PERMOMON  right away!

408 is quite deceiving in size. Didn't think it was that big or that long untill I was parking at Giant.

Added on August 29, 2012, 9:44 am
I would agree here. I've done touch ups on my other cars form paint shops. Some of these paint shop guys are very good. Hardly any difference in tone and very reasonable price.

It will be much easier to deal with the paint shops than with franchise holders,if there was dispute. For this reason I'd keep away from Franchise for paint work touch ups.
*
Ok, I got my words back and I agreed with the statement. Think I was the unlucky one that I got 2 tones of colors last time at outside workshop.

Unbiased review. This model was designed for the China market, hence a lowered standard. Certainly finess is missing in many areas. I like the writer have owned several contis, so many areas were alarmimg for me too. Would certainly like to see an update on the TCU from Peugeot to solve the adaptive gearbox issue. While it works silky smooth,FC could be better!  Peugeot has to initiate this from Aisin ( gearbox manufacturer ).

I hope NASA has the will or  capacity to understand the issue at hand! This actually is an opportunity for NASA to better public opinion! I hope they take advantage and not exhibit 3rd world mentality!
*
The points actually not much affected me. This is more to the fineness while assembling the car. They should giving more care on these tiny miny things~ The most attractive to me is the point number 3

QUOTE
3)Non adaptive nature of the 6 speed gearbox whih only changes gears at predetermined speeds not according to load making a Euro Star 5 emission engine very thirsty , I am comparing to my 12 year old CLK 230 supercharged Mercedes 5 speed auto which changes gears according to load and gives better fuel economy than this 408 despite weighing 300 Kg more.... I say non adaptive because the 1st gear changes to 2nd always at the same speed which is when the central locking locks the car// The gear change doesnt take advantage of the low end torque at all and if you choose sport mode its even more ridiculous, I will complain about this during my first service. All other gears change at predetermined speeds also, the most annoying is waiting for the gear to change to 4th which occurs at a ridiculous 2600 rpm when engine is warm, really annoying, usually end up swithing to tiptronic and changing manually
*
I totally agree that the 6 speed gear is not SMART enough, it drag till around 2500rpm to change to the next gear. Its ridiculous it dragging the gear at 2200rpm while I am moving at a slow speed!! End up I was like the commenter changing the gear manually!

As for point no. 3, I didn't give much observation on at what rpm the low gear shift take place on my 4 speed 408 but if I'm on light footed mode, the gear change seems to occurs at lower rpm, not like when I rammed the pedal. The only thing I notice is it will be quite 'jerky' when gears are shift at lower gear when I'm in light footed mode. Is it because the adaptive gearbox has adapted my aggressive way of driving?

Anybody can elaborate more on 'BUMP STEER' as pointed out in point 5 of the thread?
Elantra's price increased already? I thought it was just a sales gimmick.
